So sorry for your loss. I've never looked forward to getting old, because I've seen the pain and suffering family members have gone through, and even the effects that medications, especially when a person has to take many different ones through out a day, and how they may negatively impact a person overall. I may want to see the Dawn of the 22nd century or at least colonization of space on a more permanent basis.

I’ve witnessed three of my grandparents rot away in nursing homes. They went from loving relatives to shadows. While all three were in their nineties when the end came, their quality of life and the toll their degradation took on my family left a lasting impression on me. Especially with my paternal grandfather, who went from being one of the most dignified men I knew to being a shell of a man.
When a friend lost a relative a few years ago, I couldn’t grieve with him. The person was eighty when he had an accident and died suddenly from his injuries. He was also about to be forced out of work due to his age and because of several health issues he was dealing with. The loss of his occupation, and the worsening health problems, would have ruined the man’s quality of life.
Thinking of my grandparents, I couldn’t help but feel how lucky the man was, that he lived past eighty, had a good life, and died quickly before he too had his mind and body fail him - unlike my grandparents.

I never knew three of my grandparents, and my sole surviving grandmother passed, already a shell of her former self, nothing like what she was before I was born, when I was eight. Later, when I was fifteen, my mother died of terminal-stage breast cancer, having not even lived past her fifties. I watched it happen. Her bones were brittle from the medical treatments she was given to simply delay the spread of that cancer, and as the treatments stopped working, she deteriorated very fast. The cancer metastasized everywhere until her body shut down, stat by stat, in front of everyone close to her, and she lay still forevermore. It should therefore be unsurprising that I had, early on, developed an interest in medicine. Oh, I wasn't really any good at it, but I never stopped paying attention. When I saw this video, it occurred to me that I recognized some of the contents. I thought back, almost immediately, to the Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence proposal, and to initiatives like it. I even thought about recent advances in genetic engineering, about how perhaps we could even repair damage to our genes as we grow older, given enough research. Periodic rejuvenation procedures could even indefinitely extend the human lifespan. It gave me some hope. If not for my mother, then at least for the future, for humanity as a whole. I could hear the pain in your voice as you recounted the loss of a man who had lived through nearly a century and borne witness to so many great and horrible things in his life, and who had done so much for his family and no doubt the friends around him. I've never been good at...being comforting, but you should know I understand, and that you have my condolences. If looking into this, if helping out with it, or spreading awareness of it helps, then I think you should do it. For all of us. Nobody has the luxury of ignoring aging forever, after all, and life is much too short. Imagine what we could each do with decades if not centuries more experience before we pass on.
"Time is the school in which we learn,
Time is the fire in which we burn."
    -Delmore Schwartz.

My mom died in her fifties, it was from breast cancer, it was the most painful thing to watch, my mother, who was one of the strongest women I know, suffered in constant pain from both the cancer and kemo, and yet she still went to work as a social worker and continued to help orphaned kids and took care of me and my sister, she did this up to when she became bedridden and had to be placed in a hospice, she would die a week later and to this day it still hurts. I know how you feel, believe me and it is hell, so I'm sorry you had to go through that hell, I'm just glad you've become stronger for it, Fight on man.

My great grandmother died the least horrible death i can imagine. At 95 and a half she leaned back for a nap after breakfeast and simply was gone. She was fit and mentaly accute until her last words, only having some hip issues (she needed a walking aid) and a late diagnosed (age 92, to old for surgery with current methodes) restricted artery .The restricted artery probably closed and shut of blood to the brain.

That sounds extremely invasive and very likely to become problematic, XD what do you do if you get hit by an EMP?.... but as someone with very bad vision without the use of corrective lenses I think I actually would go for Lens Implants if it gets me Triple the visual acuity. Hopefully all of that will be solved in the next 10 years, if it's more like 20 years it's probably a bit late for me as I'm already 22 so by then I'll be in my 40s and already starting to accelerate how badly I'm breaking down. Kinda too late for me by that point and no matter how close it is it's still without a doubt too late for my parents considering they are both 70 and 50 respectively.

I do believe that if we manage to achieve some form of immortality that keeps our current level of consciousness. It would be a mistake. With nothing left to fear for death we would slowly lose the drive to live to achieve. Why do it today when I will ALWAYS have a tomorrow. I always used to scoff when people say theres to little time but that's precisely it. In lockdown being unable to make memories and with my grandad dying. That shortness of life makes those little happy moments infinitely more precious and valuable. As achillies in troy said.
"The gods envy us because we are mortal, because every moment might be are last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed.
