Thank you so much Kent for your contributions to help owners of all classic MBs! Am a novice but for 10 years have owned an W211 E350 AvantGarde 2005, a very early 350 with an early version of the 722.906.0 box that is now 19 years old, but has travelled only 65,000 miles. Just this week I had my own conductor plate reconditioned due to such problems-my car never locked into Limp-Home mode-it was fine if I switched off for 5 secs and re-started. Now the transmission is just amazing-I just love this incredible car :-) As you said, the specialist reconditioned my original conductor plate, rather than us buying a new device, so no re-flash was needed.

Hit the nail right on the head, Kent. We sure do deal with a lot of “since you did ____, my _____ is broken” at dealerships.
The 722.9 just recently ceased production after 20+ years; fantastic transmission over the long run, even with the early growing pains. Mercedes-Benz still offers full factory training courses on the .6 and .9!
BTW, Mercedes does offer conductor plate only repair kits for these nowadays.

Now you’re making me want to find the same car with the same suspension and motor. I fell in love with the power from my old 400E.

I have a 2003 E 500 purchased from its owner in Arizona and shipped to the East Coast. Has 76,000 on it now and looks showroom. I went through and preventively replaced all BB of the known issues. Crankshaft pulley, cam sensor, crank sensor, radiator,re sealed valve covers, replaced rear main seal, replaced ps res and flushed fluid. Replaced breather hoses and rad hoses. Serviced transmission, changed oil, replaced all cabin and engine air filters, replaced fuel pump and sender, replaced all rear air springs and rear shocks, both front air shocks, and put new Michelin power sport all season tires and aligned. Have all receipts. Spent over $18,000 on car purchase and parts.

Kent... Thank you for your service. Your videos have given me the confidence of working on my own R230. I'm also thinking about getting an E55 as well.

I remember shipping one of those plates to Eastern Europe for repair for really cheap.

04 E500 is my favorite too. I've found rather than replacing a lot of electronics to get them repaired is far more economical.

Kent, I totally understand your love for the W211......What's even better though....a W211 with the OM648 inline 6cyl diesel!!! Imagine driving a car like yours but getting 37 MPG on the highway and over 700 miles to a tank of #2 diesel !! You should really try to get yourself an 05 or an 06 E320 CDI. Yeah, they have the 722.6, but at 205K miles my trans is still rock solid. Keep making videos for these classics....I tell people that I'm planning to drive mine to my funeral....they are keepers for sure.

"Better" is in the eye of the beholder. :-). I think you misunderstood my passion. It is not the W211 chassis, but rather the M113 engine coupled with the 7G transmission riding on aromatic suspension. But that is just me...

The diesels are very good, and strike a nice balance between fuel economy and performance, but the pulling power and feeling of the V8 acceleration is unmatched.

      2009 should be a NAG2 transmission. only the early 722.9 ( like 2004) were NAG1. 20yr MB Master tech..

Transmission problems in Benz are usually conductor plates I just buy new ones on online for $200 and never had to program them. Should also replace harness connector on trans it gets weather shocked and tends to crack and leak and replace the seal too. Cheers

Unfortunately, your comment does not apply directly to my video and may confuse some viewers. You are talking about the 722.6 transmission, which is a different animal. There are no new cheap conductor plates for the 7-speed 722.9 transmission.
