  • 1. Stop using your credit cards.
    2. Stop paying out-of-state tuition.
    3. Get the help of a free financial advisor.
    4. Calculate how much is owed, to whom, and when.
    a. Call collections agencies and work out a deal to settle the debt.
    5. Write each debt from least to greatest.
    a. Then create a calendar for your money with the due dates for every minimum payment.
    6. Any leftover money at the end of the month will go toward your lowest debt. When one is paid off, celebrate.
    7. Every dollar you make or spend will be recorded on your money calendar.
    8. Cancel all subscriptions.
    9. If you aren't working more than 40 hours a week, get your resume together and get another job.
    10. Pick up extra shifts and look for ways to increase your hourly wage.
    11. Say no to entertainment, beauty upkeep, and dining out.
    12. If there's free food, eat it.
    13. Make all other meals at home, in bulk.
