Could you write about more diverse people as far as ethnicity?
I hear you! This is something I hope to do better with because I know representation is important. I have several books with Latinx and Asian main characters (including this one, The Way You Are, The Last Good Liar, Then Again, About That, The Runaround, Full-On Clinger, and Stout of My League) but I am sorely lacking in books with other under-represented minority groups. In the case of African American or Black main characters, the input I've received from other authors belonging to those groups is that I should focus on creating side characters who are Black/African American and leave main characters to Black/African American authors to tell those stories. BUT I also need to simultaneously amplify the voices of these under-represented authors. I definitely need to work on this! Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated because I'm always willing to learn and grow. Thanks!
