You can solve it by trying around with a little bit of intuition. But designing this shape.... i can't imagine how smart you gotta be. This could be the work of a "try and refine" approach. Like starting with a chain and carve out step by step until you achieve the correct fitting... Or by some crazy smart geometrical maths genuis who calculated and designed this shape with allthe correct thicknesses to have excatly one solution to solve it.
