Watched this on TV with Mam back in the day, I miss those days for sure. Sweeney, Only Fools and Horses, Steptoe and Son, some classic stuff back then.
as a 23 year old... i have to thank my dad for introducing me to shows like The Professionals, The Sweeney & Starsky & Hutch. absolutely brilliant and they definitely don't make them like they do anymore :((
For me, this and the Sweeney are my favourite TV shows of all time, I love getting a few snacks ready, a hot drink and sticking on an episode from the box set. I also enjoy checking out the locations.
Just turned 17 the other day and this song came into my head… used to watch this with my old man all the time when I was younger, as well as The Sweeney, Minder, all them sorts. Proper telly
I met Lewis while at LAC Jury Duty. A wonderful man, loved his family, his boys. Didn't realize he was an actor until a month after opening arguments (trial) , he very quietly mentioned it to me. I was thrilled. We became good friends, lost touch after the trial. I was deeply saddened to hear of his death. I lost a good friend, a decent man, who dearly loved his family and country (UK).
in New Zealand this series was well up there over the best of them...such fine acting and to think history repeats itself with thier subsequent tv appearances
This was the original opening credits-i believe the producers of. the show later felt this wasn't in keeping with the image of the show and introduced a new intro-I much prefer this one
Loved it, the Ford Capris cars they drove , Doyle- Martin shaw is the only living CI5 member still alive , Cowley - Gordon Jckson - RIP, Lewis Collins - Boide - RIP, Great show
Yeah it was just an Unparalleled series. Series' in those days (when I was 9) were just the Real Deal. U don't get that Quality anymore. I am from Cambridge and there is nothing like that era, esp were I was from. I actually miss it. Nothing is dependable these days from technology, tv, even people.
F Ford Capris yeah, my friend bought one in 2010 and had a great time in it. Even the cars were better made...Ford Capri is a bloody classic for sure. No chassis anymore...
Lewis Collins was awesome in the movie " The Final Option " ( Who dares Win ) as a former SAS agent who went rogue and infiltrated an underground anti-nuke group who seized the US Embassy in London
@@FlamingoPublications Apparently he turned up for interview on his motorbike in leathers. The reason for his failure to get the part was the US market. He remained disappointed for some time.
@@jimdevon9550 I always wonder why some people are casted in a role that others don't get. As an American woman, I would have died to see Lewis as Bond. Miscastings go on all the time. And then when a movie or TV show does not do well, they blame the actor. Bond was a known bankable commodity except one time and maybe that bit them in the butt. On He Majesty's Secret Service. I recent read some of the recent critic reviews and many had them softened with time but the fact that George Lazenby was only in one Bond must have left it's mark on Broccoli.
I wouldn't say they weren't politically correct. For a gritty police show it's notable that none of the 53 episodes contained any swearing. No "fuck" or "cunt" or "dickhead" which is unrealistic for hard drinking coppers. They stuck with the rules of the time. Still, two great shows.
They were politically correct for the time. I swear people who hate political correctness live in a rose coloured bubble, where everything was better when you could say “darkie” with impunity.
Stunning TV theme tune from an iconic ground breaking cop show on ITV 1982 London weekend television this was awesome Martin Shaw Lewis Collins Gordon Jackson this was massive in the UK usually shown at weekends dealing with then taboo stuff racism sexism terrorism bungs scandals spying !!! Loved it big part of my growing up as a child !!!
That version of the titles should have a voice over from Cowley. I can't remember the exact wording, but it starts something like "Anarchy. Acts of terror. Crimes against the public."
Awesome banging TV soundtrack I love this series brilliant acting from Martin Shaw Lewis Collins Gordon Jackson first shown on ITV London weekend TV 1977-82 this was ground breaking dealing with rascism fraud social issues and that was just from the police
Might be an unpopular opinion but I actually preferred this title sequence of the assault course for the professionals! Compared to the one used in series 2 to 4
I just watched ep1 on Amazon. There is a bit where Bodie saves a woman by smacking her so hard he knocks her out, then he rips her blouse open down to her bra retrieve a hand grenade which he throws before laying on top of her. When she comes to he wipes the dust off her breasts and ties what's left of her blouse back up again smirking at her all the while!
Red Card Significantly, the People's Court theme was also composed by a British composer and was originally part of the soundtrack to an ITV crime drama series called "The Hanged Man".
Great Series, Brilliant Theme music, Loved Doyle, but Lewis Collins as Bodie? I loved him, he SHOULD have been James Bond in the same way that Brian Clough should have been England Football manager! Gordon Jackson was great too, very authoritarian ! dx
rare to see this now,as most episodes have the one with .cowley in the office, doyle on the oil refinery and bodie boxing,This stll an exciting opening though?
Come on lets go !!! shouts Jackson. So they get away in a Rolls Royce, LMHO. Loved it, and title music was great too but that title sequence (before it was changed) was so silly.
RIP Laurie Johnson! He leaves behind an extremely expansive musical canon! This brilliant composer will be "greatly missed" im sure!!
Indeed. A Number One for such memorable TV themes.
Watched this on TV with Mam back in the day, I miss those days for sure. Sweeney, Only Fools and Horses, Steptoe and Son, some classic stuff back then.
One of the best series ever.
true
Absolutely and new avengers
_The_ best, in my humble opinion!
As concepts go for an opening sequence for an action oriented show, this one is outstanding.
That's one fucking slick and pulverizing theme tune.
as a 23 year old... i have to thank my dad for introducing me to shows like The Professionals, The Sweeney & Starsky & Hutch. absolutely brilliant and they definitely don't make them like they do anymore :((
I would recommend "Der Alte" from Germany also among the great police shows, and if humor need to be added then "The Persuaders!" were great
For me, this and the Sweeney are my favourite TV shows of all time, I love getting a few snacks ready, a hot drink and sticking on an episode from the box set. I also enjoy checking out the locations.
Loved this show RIP Lewis Collins. My dad (a drummer) always admired Laurie Johnson themes as he always kept the drums at the forefront & heavy.
this theme brings back same great memories of watching this show on saturday nights with my Dad....
Oh snap on that..
friday nights a 9pm on lwt lol.....
... and i was paid to sit through this made by and produced by London Weekend Television - GREAT!
America had Starsky and Hutch we had Bodie and Doyle 🙂

It was aired on GMA-7 in the early 1980's and on PTV-4 in the late 1990's here in the Philippines.
Two words for this....THE BEST !
Laurie Johnson was a true genius, so many great theme tunes
He even did the theme for "No Hiding Place", another cop show in the early 60's.

Best programme I've seen
BRITISH TACTICAL TEAM
, GREAT ARRIVING IN STYLE IN A ROLL-ROYCE
That intro was too so great , the Rolls Royce roaring down the bend, classic , loved it as a kid
I prefer the intro with Cowley's Granada!
Had several of them... ;)
Special operation team from CI5 drives up in a Rolls Royce. They've got class, definitely!
This and Sweeney some of my favourite shows as a kid in the 80s
in New Zealand this series was well up there over the best of them...such fine acting and to think history repeats itself with thier subsequent tv appearances
I was too young to appreciate it back then. Now, just by watching the intro gives me goosebumps..

Much needed today I think
Great series and music !!
Thank you for upload. Cowley and Bodie, rest in peace.
by far the best series ever
Love everything about this. The music's fantastic!!
Cowley is so impatient, that it's a wonder he didn't leave without them.
That roller just don't wanna skid, no surprise, its a roll boat lol
Top show, massive theme.
They really get out of that moving car super fast. Great stuff. Love it!
Because of the flatulences
This theme is so bouncy and cool the professionals aired between 1977 and 1983 and starred the great Gordon Jackson, Lewis Collins and Martin Shaw
This opening is better than anything on television today.
Although it seems ITV are obsessed with this show
As there's re-runs on ITV 4 at a semi-regular basis
Second one wasn't too bad either
Brian Clemens... The brain behind one the best 70's shows out of old UK: "Thriller"
My mom absolute favorite: A Coffin for the Bride.
I used to hum this theme tune every time I jumped into my dad's Capri when I was a kid 😅
Loved it, the Ford Capris cars they drove , Doyle- Martin shaw is the only living CI5 member still alive , Cowley - Gordon Jckson - RIP, Lewis Collins - Boide - RIP, Great show
One other CI5 member of note still around: loose cannon "Mad" Tommy MacKay (John Castle)

The TV show for men and your generation are going to dance to it fcuk off

Yes, our army in northern ireland, bombs. What fun it was.
There's something deliciously perverse about driving a Rolls Royce like it's a 5 Series 😁
One of the best Police TV shows from the uk along with the Sweeny and The Protectors!

80s TV theme tunes. Epic!!
Although the show began in 1977.
RIP Laurie Johnson, classic theme tune
Grew up in the 70s watching Brit TV shows where they drove Jags, Rolls-Royces and Range Rovers like loons. They were the days!
I'm 56 and this theme song in my opinion ranks up there with the very best themes of all time.
This plus The Sweeney.Great politically incorrect entertainment. They simply don't make 'em like this any more.Pity.
Politically incorrect? You realise that one of the first episodes was never broadcast in the UK right?
They still show them on ITV4, it's great daytime watching - Sweeney, Avengers, Professionals and Minder

Yes it was , I preferred it to Starsky and Hutch, they both could drive very well, only Starksy drove back then
Gotta say Lewis Collins was a dreadful actor, only one pouty expresion 😉
I bet it took several takes to film them getting in and out of the Roll-Royce so quickly without a hitch.
Beware it in our Hearts :-)
