Lew Collins lived in Chalfont St.Peter and my Uncle used to clean his windows (no pun intended !!) on his Mopes Farm mansion down Denham Lane ! He was a really kind and witty gentleman !!
I used to watch the Professional when I was a little boy... I love this serie even if I know that AN Alfetta Alfa Romeo 1.8 ltr was enough to overtake a 3.0 ltr capri... I read that Lewis Collins died 6 Years ago... R. I. P.
The Capri was certainly an understeerer, but Ford masked it pretty well for everyday driving (unless you always drove like Bodie!). But yes, great shame Lewis never played Bond, for his sake and ours.
Fantastic video I love all these professionals tribute videos. Yello the race was a great song choice. Owning a ford capri you often find yourself driving like your Bodie or Doyle. :)
@andypdq I've been around Silverstone and Oulton Park in mine and it handles like a dream, nothing wrong with the single leaf suspension, firm the front end up, bigger brakes. They are awesome, if you know how to drive them and tweak them, they are a raw car for sure. Nothing else like them biggest issue is side to side axle movement that can be sorted. Ford offered uprated stuff back then from the RS catalogue but many didn't realise.
@@LordFlashheart.11 Anything will perform much better if you tweak them, the thing is, as they came from the factory to the retail buyer in the early 1980s, the Capri was a Mk 2 Cortina, with different body panels. The Mk2 Cortina suspension system was deemed obsolete in terms of handling in the late sixties. Superior live axle coil spring four link rear suspension for the MK 3,4 and 5 Cortinas, much superior IRS in the Sierra of the early eighties, which could have been fitted yet the Sports Coupe from Ford with hopelessly outdated, inferior leaf spring suspension still sold well to the gullible public at the same time in the early1980s. Axle tramp 101 on uphill corners, if they had the power Of all the departments of the Ford Motor Company, I bow in absolute awe to marketing.
@@andypdq That was precisely why they were so much fun. They were old hat before the Mk3 appeared in 1978 but the carry over 3.0 V6 gave it a very decent 140 bhp for it's weight. 8,5 seconds to 60 and 120 mph in the seventies was excellent. The 3.0 torque meant you drive through towns at 5mph in third gear and just rumble about like you were in something old and with muscle - which you were. The life axle made life interesting, especially in the wet but it was never unpredictable and drifting them was very easy. The 3.0S was the last domestic car I drove that could be steered on the throttle with ease. A hot hatch would have been much quicker but nowhere near the fun. The 2.8i was too nailed down and well sorted and lacked the involvement of the earlier cars. My 3.0S is the only car I miss selling today. I can't think of a more perfect hooligan car for the show.
@@cologne2792 In the early 90s I enjoyed blowing 2.8 Capris into the weeds on the country lanes of the Staffordshire moorlands in my Rover SD1 V8. V6 Sierras were a different matter.

An old friend of mine had some Capri V6 2.3, they looked great, had a good sound & made a lot of fun to drive, and you could screw on it well. Best wishes from south Germany
Nice cars the Capri's ... especially the 3 litres like Bodie's , I had a 3.0s, a 3.1s believed to be the 'bullit' engine and A 2.8i all beautiful cars , the 3.1 was a beast of a car , should o kept that one
A hard man, tried out for the SAS but they took him very serious but wouldn't allow him in due to being a celeb, could have maybe changed his identity.
Lovely car and all that, but what happens if he needs to pick up a fridge/freezer or a sofa ?. What he really needs is a nice Chrysler voyager, perfect for hauling around big heavy items
This Capri is a 2.8 injection as it's a MK2.. The mk 1 had the 3 litre Essex in it which had a carburettor. I scrapped on and put the engine in my MK3 transit.. Should have kept the Capri..
Under Steer? Did you watch this til the end? How good does that Capri look at full chat 👍
I still am bodie Today, my mum bought me the ci5 kit back in the 70s, great little hand grenade in the kit
ive had a good a good collection of capris cool looking car and I'm proud to say ive still got a capri
The Capri was certainly an understeerer, but Ford masked it pretty well for everyday driving (unless you always drove like Bodie!). But yes, great shame Lewis never played Bond, for his sake and ours.
All ford cars were basically set up to understeer... For safety you know.
@@MagicAyrtonforever Indeed, most cars are, but we might have hoped the production team would have induced some oversteer by way of mods or driving.
Didn't know I was getting filmed on my way to work this morning
Are you concerned about understeer in a car with leaf springs? 😅
@@bendermi Rally Escorts managed very well with leaf springs, and were generally in oversteer mode.
Absolutely awesome 👌

The capri won everything touring cars had to offer, and i dont think people realise just how good these cars were! Glad I've still got one!!!
But the race cars were nothing like the production cars, which suffered from horrible understeer and dreadful leaf spring rear suspension .

Bond had it all

They only understeer if you can't drive a capri..awsome vid with yellow the race..
A couple of different 3.0s Capri cars used or just the same car with different number plates 🤔
They had a few different Mk3s but not as many as the plates suggest.
