Pretty messed up that parents would use their kids problem to selfishly make wishes for themselves.
Even more messed up are the entitled parents who actually *wish* their kids would get life-threatening illnesses just so they can use the kid's wish for themselves. I've heard a lot of them complain about the MAW families getting to skip the lines and waiting times at amusement parks and other places, too.
yeah they should have there knee caps capped
Haha before the Make a Wish people came to my house I was dead set on getting a puppy but my dad kept on telling me to wish to go to Disney world. My 6 year old self was so torn up about it I didn’t know what to say until the volunteers asked me and I suddenly blurted out “a dog”. I didn’t realize how fucked up that was until I got older, but I’m happy I went with my true wish :)
@Mary A
If you’re okay with answering this, is your dog still alive?

-we taught him to shoot an assault rifle
-he got his own set of body armor/camo gear
-he got to eat MREs with us

when the kid died we all went to the burrial to give him a medal, that kid would have made a good soldier

The fact Christopher Nolan was never requested before may have had to do with it. It must have touched him that someone liked him and/or his work so much they wanted to use some of the last time they had on earth to meet him. And he must have then had great chemistry with the family. From his works I can tell he has an eye for the heart.
taylor usually gives longer visits to children with cancer based on videos from their families. ig it really has a lot to do with their schedules too. but tbh, I'm such a big fan, a picture would mean the world
Respect for Christopher Nolan just went through the roof
Same, and i loved him to start. Compare him to Taylor Swift. I get Taylor gets more wishes, but if she gets so many wishes from young female fans she could coordinate a special day for them all together.

I want to clear things up- people who get a wish and ask to meet a celebrity dont always get to, not because the celebrity doesn't want to or because they think their "too good for that" but because sometime they literally CANT. Some occasions they are given a small time frame and just cant make it work, or their agency wont allow it, or other causes. Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of petty, rude, narcissistic celebs that do it bc they just dont feel like it, but not all of them. Always think the best in people, its hard but it helps

I have no respect for any celebrity who doesn’t. You have a career because people like you, if it wasn’t for people liking you you would have no career and no money. I have a cousin who has muscular dystrophy who was a Make-A-Wish recipient. He asked to go to Skywalker Ranch (where they made and produced the original Star Wars movies). He got to meet the voice of General Grievious (and play with the voice modulator), explore the props department (found the original Yoda puppet and original R2D2 unit), got a bronze Chewbacca bust meant for executive producers, and several articles of memorabilia (sealed Star Wars action figures as well as lightsabers) all signed by George Lucas. There's more that happened, but what's surprising is that Skywalker Ranch is like Area 51; you have to be invited, you can't schedule an appointment. He had an absolute blast and got to experience something very few people get to experience.
Not denied, but at my high school graduation, Make A Wish got a kid Garth Brooks to show up. Garth didnt talk or sing, but he sat with the kid all graduation on the football field and clapped for all of us as we walked across the stage to get our diplomas. As soon as graduation ended, everyone stormed him to shake his hand. He soon left with the kid to go to a restaurant and i heard he bought them all steaks.

@@STRIGOPS-zx9gv Bow Chicka Bow wow
@@loneshadow0844 why does that sound so familiar
Tangentially related, but my father met Garth Brooks. My father worked for a company that basically did sports camps with famous people, and for some reason, they got Garth Brooks at one of their camps. My dad somehow got put in charge of keeping Garth Brooks company, and to this day, he claims that Garth Brooks is the nicest celebrity he's ever met (He's met quite a few celebrities, not only in his profession but also in various happenstance occasions - like the time he insulted Larry King).
Maria Rai he’s a country singer
I used to babysit for my neighbors in high school, and their young son ended up having cancer. He got to make a wish, and he asked for a dog. His dad had severe asthma and they didn’t have a fence, so Make A Wish built them a fence, a dog house, and got him a puppy that was a breed known for being less allergy inducing and trained to be a service dog for him. It all happened in about two weeks from what I remember. And the kid ended up so happy and with a new friendship that would last for years. Bless that charity, seriously.
**Edit since this sort blew up: the kid got a poodle mix of some kind, small brown and curly. And after a few surgeries and treatment he went into full remission. I haven’t spoken to the family in a since I moved away, but as far as I know he’s still healthy and still has the dog

@Waves happy ending, they got married.
Yes, my little sister (diagnosed with a severe lung disease that started affecting her heart) wished to go to Disneyworld. Apparently it's a wish that's pretty common because there's already some kind of village in Florida, but it was the happiest I ever saw her. Bless that charity

My nephew died from a DIPG when he was 9 years old, and his wish was to see the Pacific Ocean. He was too weak to fly, so, Make A Wish found an RV for him and his immediate family to drive there. He couldn't do much, but, he really enjoyed being there with the ocean.

Hi, this seems a bit random but it connects, trust me. My parents own two preschools around Denver, Colorado, and a couple of years ago, they had a kiddo who was diagnosed with DIPG. He was about to graduate from preschool and head off to kindergarten, but he died about two weeks after his diagnosis. It was... absolutely devastating for everybody, especially his parents and sister. Now, every year (possibly not this year because of the virus) they host a 5k in his honor, and all the money made is donated to DIPG research at Children's Hospital Colorado DIPG research. DIPG is such a horrible thing to deal with, and my heart goes out to all the kids that have it and their friends and family. If you'd like to learn more, it is called the Goddard Cares Fall Fest 5k in honor of Luke Morrin. There are also other children who had DIPG represented at the race, such as Ava Coleman, who I also knew, and Piper Waneka. If anyone lives in the Denver/City Park area, I would 100% suggest signing up for the race. There are amazing people there, and it's for a great cause.

The fact that there is parents out there that do not agree to signing off because they do not want the other parents to have those benefits is something i understand because i know how f***ed up people can be out there and that they won't sign that is just the cherry on the top of the sh*t-tower. It still does not make it any less horrible. The wish is not for the parent to have a grand time, but for the kid that has a chance or 100% chance of dying to spend the last of their time before they die because they need something special because of what they cannot/possibly cannot have like everyone else.
?
Not a 100% but a very high one and those parents suck
It isn’t always a chance of dying, I currently am not at risk with it nor was I when I got my own wish.

@@BruceWayne-kz8wk What are you confused about?
6:55 Something tells me if Arnold had caught wind of this whole fiasco, he would have accepted it himself. God bless that dude's uncle.
i don’t want to sound like a crazy twitter stan or anything, but honestly for the a list celebrities with large teenage followings, it’s not necessarily their fault for not being able to individually meet everyone that wishes to see them, and a lot of times it’s on the management of the celebrities to organize these things, and not the celebrities themselves.
Damn getting a wish and living must be one of the best feelings in the world
Actually it’s fairly common....
Yeah a quite a few of the wishes go to children who arent necessarily guaranteed to die, but have a high chance, or just dont live very quality lives in general. The make a wish people always go out of their way to put as much extra as they can into their wish though, for example, we wished for my little brother to go to disney world, and we were flown down for free, got recognized at the airport, got to stay at a special place for disabled children on wish trips in Orlando, and got our 3 day pass to disney, as well as a two day pass to universal and a day to sea world. You can tell they're pretty passionate about what they do, its pretty great.
@@buffya8012 I sure was thinking, dang, a lot of these people keep surviving.
I have a metabolic/genetic disease and eventually got a transplant and they'd literally been trying to give me a wish since I was six but I couldn't do it until I was thirteen because I kept landing in the hospital. A lot of the time kids don't get their wish until they are at least partially in recovery because otherwise even doing the generic wishes like Disney or shopping sprees aren't possible because they can't grant wishes in the hospital. Because of this the survival rate for wish kids is actually a lot higher than most people assume.
Yea the whole fear of dieing or being really sick for who knows how long possibly putting your family in debt for the rest of their lives is totally worth it...

My soccer teammates brother was diagnosed with a very rare muscle cancer at the age of 14. He chose to go to Disney World and wound up being surprised by Johnny Depp because the Make A Wish volunteers found out he LOVED Pirates of the Caribbean. On top of that they also sent him to Mexico where they adopted the cutest darn dog ive ever seen. He passed in October 2017 at age 15, he was in the 10th grade . Rest In Peace Aiden.

Why do the non custodial parents get a say?
Ikr! If a dad left after you were born, he obviously doesn't care about the child, or hates the custodial parent, the custodial parents know the child better!
I might be stupid but what abt the parents thats don't have custody but still come to visit when they can
@@fixarwcensored3671 yeah, there are actual parents who has lost their custody to their children and yet still loves their children. There are even parents who fight for custody rights over their child. Just because they dont have custody doesnt mean they dont care about their child. But yes, it is a sad dilemma and situation where kids cant be granted their wishes due to noncustodial reasons.
I asked the same thing and just saw this comment. It really makes no sense why someone not active in the child’s life gets an equal say to someone who is.

The little boy I used to take care of, who died when he was 11, got a make a wish before I started working there. He was non-verbal so they let his mother choose. He was way too fragile for Disney and he wouldn’t have gotten anything out of it anyway, being blind and extremely seizure prone. Instead, i think it was four of the Detroit Redwings came to visit him and brought and set up a special swing and an above ground pool. He could no longer use the pool by the time I started taking care of him, but he did get to use his swing on his really good days. They also took pictures with him and signed them. The kid wanted to meet Michael Jackson.... It was last year.
Dang.... that must be hard to tell the poor kid that michael jackson passed......
plus with all the rumors about him.
Is it bad that I laughed?
@@rabitwarior2 You just laughed. I imagined telling a kid that they will meet MJ anyway
"I asked to be turned into a dinosaur. They said no." Lmaoooo
I remember a kid in my class who asked to blow up a building. They said no. XD I think he spent a day surrounded by therapy dogs instead because he really liked dogs. The good news is that he survived and became an engineer, last I heard about him.
@@cerving20 As far as I'm aware, he's never demolished any buildings in his new career and he was always interested in building things from Knex and Legos as a kid, so I guess he just wanted to knock down something bigger.
Yeah maybe he wanted to demolish a building that was gonna be tore down anyways. That sounds totally cool to be able to help do tbh
@@cerving20 I mean kids are terribly blunt and straightforward, so not going into detail about what exactly is probably the only unsettling part
"Blow up a building" XD what kind of wish is that?

back in January this mans child died and the mother didn't tell him and actually blocked the coffin to keep him and his family from viewing his dead 10 year old daughter. The videos on youtube and its disturbing
This video started out as what we’re wishes that were denied, became everyone telling about their wishes that got granted
It warms my heart that so many of these were kids they thought were most likely going to die yet, great doctors saved them. It is even nicer to hear that they pass on the generosity.
My dying wish would be to confess all my sins to a priest, pray for a long time, than swing off that bungee cord at the grand canyon and try to hit the other side, while on LSD
Sound like I could help u
Same expect the religious stuff
Also same except the religious stuff
Mine would just be to go to Australia and hug a platypus. That's all I want. To hold a platypus in my arms and snuggle. I might literally die of contempt if I hold it too long.
@@platygetzkillz627 there really shy and really rare, the only place I know of one in the wild is in a creek in Malany, Queensland. Great woodfired pizzas as well.
Honestly how do you say no to make a wish. It’s literally a person’s dying wish. I get certain things being too expensive, or not safe for the person’s health, but if they reach out to you and say this person’s dying wish is to meet you or to visit your company for the day, how can you say no to that?
there’s just too many people who die every day and only about 500 celebs and they can’t spend all their time just meeting people
@@victoriahamilton7082 You need HEALING if you think there are only 500 celebrities in the world..
Hunter Lunde still. People live their own lives. They aren’t obligated to fulfill your wish. That doesn’t mean they won’t. But they don’t HAVE to
Some Celebs can't bring themselves to meet with dying kids for many reasons. I know one big one is that it makes them really upset, meeting a bunch of kids who they come to like and then they pass. I don't blame them for that
I don't think everyone is capable to cope with the responsibility and the emotional impact of being a diying kid's wish
Nothing like starting out my day with wholesomeness like this.
This all made me cry I can’t beleve it the one about how he just wanted to make his mom happy was the sweetest thing and I’m still crying
Oh boy the ones who died really hurt my heart, felt it drop with the poor SeaWorld girl

wow sanitising every ball in a ball pit is true dedication. props to those people
13:58 That hurts so much.
I teared up a bit on that one
I'm a little "dense" what does it mean
Fev Dev the kids first wish was to make his mom happy as opposed to anything for himself.
I cried. Like legitimately cried hearing that the kid wanted his mom to be happy. Imagine being so selfless at a young age and knowing the only thing you wanted was to make your mom happy.
Kids can feel emotions and they’re super pure.
@@justinw.7407 I did too. It was so touching, but so upsetting at the same time. That kid sounded like a ray of sunshine. I can only hope he beat his illness.

9:10 when she/he said that they made sure their siblings were involved, I teared up. To be at what could be close to the end for you and still want to give something to another. So beautiful.
My little brother was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was four. I remember when Make-A-Wish came to our house. My sisters and I anticipated three Disney princesses coming to our doorstep (much to the dismay of my brother who is the only boy in our family) but were a bit disappointed when we got a woman who reminded me a lot of my dentist. My brother REALLY wanted to go snow mobiling, but due to his condition, we were unable to do that, so we went to Disney World instead. We got to go first in all the lines and my brother and I got to fight Darth Vader (that was when I was seven and it’s been like ten years but I still consider it to be the highlight of my life). We got to stay at a village in Florida called Give Kids the World where it was literally like this little cutout from the game Candy Land and we got to eat ice cream for breakfast and swim in the pool and it was all paid for by MAW. Even though Disney wasn’t my brothers first pick, we still had an incredible time there. Thank you so much, Make A Wish!!!!
This wasn't exactly as described. Many of them get resolved in a heart warming way others don't have a wish rejected at all.
Yeah it’s kinda clickbait but I love it anyway
Most reddit questions get answers that have nothing to do with the prompt.
MoonKingKei yeah most of them will be like “parents, what is one time when you had to break the truth to your child”, and the answers will be like: not a parent, not a child, not me but my 18th cousins friend’s dog’s older sister’s owner’s co-workers boyfriend told his child he couldn’t buy any video games and kid jumped off a building
I want a refund!
My fifth grade teacher’s neighbor’s niece (what a mouthful of words) got a swimming pool in her backyard, a basket to float in (the girl was dying and she was paralyzed from the legs down), a slide that would be safe for her to use (that everybody else could use too), and it had a swing going into the pool too. Oh yeah, and she got a wheelchair-use swing set. Make-A-Wish is really so many amazing people
Wouldn't she drown if she fell into the pool?
I love that most of the denied wishes end with them having an amazing time anyway.
"the damn rat casino"
You're lucky to have something like Make a Wish. We don't have something that in most countries and children who suffer from cancer would be lucky if they even get treated.
To be fair in a lot of countries (at least europe/canada, not poorer ones) at least the family doesn't go into permanent debt and eventually kills themselves because of the stress of having $100k+ to pay off.
@@scoutbane1651 I’m sorry if I seem as an Asshole but Europe is a continent not a country
@@scoutbane1651 Medical bills for cancer patients often reach the millions. $100K+ is on the lower end. 😔
Aww, I really do love this organization. No experiences or stories to tell here, just ... with all the crappy things in the world, I'm really glad this place exists.
After watching lots of other askreddit videos, I'm surprised how wholesome this is.
for the story about sammy sosa it lets me think about what sonny said “Mickey Mantle? Is that what you're upset about? Mickey Mantle makes $100,000 a year. How much does your father make? You don't know? Well, see if your father can't pay the rent go ask Mickey Mantle and see what he tells you. Mickey Mantle don't care about you, so why should you care about him? Nobody cares”

It’s ok boah, they have Internet connection in heaven.
This is not about Make-A-Wish but it has something like it. When I was 11 I was diagnosed with both Muscular Dystrophy and Scoliosis. I didn't get any wishes from maw, but I did get some great stuff through the children's hospital that I had to go to several times a week for 3 yrs. Got an autographed game program from the entire Texas Rangers baseball team (this was in 1983-84), also got a autographed photo from the Dallas Cowboys. But the thing I loved the most was a personalized letter from Cowboys head coach Tom Landry.
If I ever become famous for anything, I would always accept wishes, if I had the time to meet them.
All of these stories are so heartwarming ❤️❤️❤️
broooo how DARE they not make that one kid a dinosaur lol

make a wish really goes above and beyond. it was the sushi story that got me. it was such a simple request but they made sure to make it as special as possible. they could've set up some fancy sushi meal, but what they did was even better. it just goes to show how much thought and care there is in the people working there.
I was expecting this video to be upsetting, I'm so glad I was wrong. Hearing how they turned things around and always found a way to make the kid happy is such a wonderful thing.

In my old hometown there was news of a very sick little kid I cant remember age I think maybe preteen or young teenager dying of cancer everyone knew the story in the town. I believe the wish was meet Aerosmith or some band I cant remember this was years ago he got a signed guitar from the band after. A few months later I believe the kid died . A few weeks later the guitar was in the local pawnshop. Dont know if the family was trash or they couldn't keep the memento as it was to hard to have it. I believe the shop didnt sell it it's a fixture they have in the shop
Hate to say it but they were probably so deep in medical bills they had to sell it
