Concorde BOAC visits Cardiff 2003 Archive Footage

  • Minimal cutting and produced straight from the original video tape, this footage features the aircraft flying into Cardiff International during the Concorde Farewell Tour in October 2003.
Highlights include a Crosswind Approach, full ATC, BAMC staff getting a front-row spot as the aircraft proceeds to pull up right in front of them. Also includes an engine shut-down/start-up with full sound.
Look out for the cockpit staff waving the Welsh Flag out of the window.
This is carefully cut from a much longer video featuring crowd response to the special visit. I opted to cut it to focus on the aircraft footage.
This footage is the property of Channel405, and I have been given exclusive permission to showcase it on my channel.

After all the years I still marvel at the sight of that beautiful bird. I remember when Braniff international was promoting possible Concord service and was touring one in Braniff livery around their routs. It stopped at MCI in Kansas City for a day of touring. Yes, I went to see it and waited for it to take off. The sound it made was GLORIOUS! Concord is a testament to the can do spirit of the 1960s that we just can’t seem to muster nowadays.

Of all the planes to keep going, this one is the most difficult. The airworthy Vulcan display aircraft was grounded because it was just far too specialised to continue flying even for display. Concorde is about 9 times as specialised as Vulcan ever was. By comparison, Vulcan is a bow and arrow while Concorde is a Lee-Enfield.
