In my experience, the biggest flaw of DDS1 is that it feels incomplete without DDS2. Many questions like "Why does Sera even like Serph?" are answered in DDS2. And to me, some characters like Gale really shine in DDS2. When playing DDS1, I felt indifferent to Gale for most of the game. After finishing DDS2, he became one of my favourite characters. Also I personally didn't have a problem with Sera's song. I actually found the scene you showed at 2:10 kind of haunting. It might be because English is not my first language but IDK. Great Video

I won't spoil DDS2 but , you will understand why serph is a mute protagonist, also Cielo is much stronger in DDS2 (also mandatory in a part of the mid game)
when i first played DDS1 I hated and kinda dropped it due to the devour mechanic... like you HAD to be careful to not kill enemies with normal attacks and devour instead for increased exp points etc.. But once u really learn the mechanics, the game is very enjoyable with nice characters story and DDS2 makes it even better. it also reminds me a bit of the matrix in a sense overall
I'm curious if Part 2 will change any of your opinions about this game. Granted, I think Atlus split the game into 2 parts to make their money back. Because I don't notice any big differences between Part 1 and 2. Which is odd because usually Devs take criticisms and try to improve on it. For example, Shin Megami Tensei 4 and Apocalypse play pretty similarly, but you can tell that the devs definitely wanted to improve on the original. Maybe they saw that keeping things too similar didn't help. I can understand why they'd wouldn't want to deviate too much. The big RPG sequel at the time this was being developed was FF10-2 and that definitely got criticized by being too different in comparison to FF10.
I think the sequel will probably solidify a few of them but hopefully change others. I’m assuming the story will be better since the arcs are wrapped up.
I know this was 10 days ago but this has to be said now that I've watched this: As someone who has played a good chunk of SMT yes it is pretty unfair a good chunk of times and yes having Serph being silent is pretty dumb but I would argue that's because every SMT protagonist needs to be silent unless you're a persona protagonist or the Devil Survivor 2 protagonist because then you get an anime that's based around you and you get a voice actor(And a pointless name change), BUT I will still say this. Personally I would rather want a digital devil saga re-release for both games with some quality of life improvements basic ones then a re-release of SMT5 because that game bored me even though the gameplay was good. Also all of the original demon designs shits on Nahobino's and I will leave it at that.
Megami Tensei games are extremely fair because almost every mechanic available to you is avaliable to the enemy. Unfair is something like 7th Dragon III Code VFD having a boss that starts the battle with an AOE instakill when the game only gave you a single accessory to give you a chance to prevent instant death. The infamous "too many resistances" in SMT4 was fair for giving you a taste of your own medicine thinking you could streamroll the whole game by passing down resistances via demon fusion.
I like the demon design not so much the human design. And also this game started my love for the Atlus soundteam and Shoji Meguro. I can't tell you how many times I played the op song as a kid and don't get me started on Brahman. I'm on the difficulty being on the bullshit scale. The enemy cheats and does not play by the rules.

I love the DDS games, they deserve HD remasters ported to PS4/5, Switch, PC, etc.
Another benefit of Human form is that Humans are immune to Hama/Light skills

Everyone talks about mainline vs Persona...but IMO Digital Devil Saga,Devil Summoner, Devil Survivor,Majin Tensei and Last Bible clear them easily.
