Wore M81 woodland when I joined the Marines in the 90’s, back when I was even issued the “chocolate chip” 6-color desert. Then went to 3-color desert and then to the digital desert and woodland MARPAT…..
I still got them all…. As for fading, that just makes you “saltier”….I wore my MARPAT woodlands to my retirement that were so very faded they were a weird lime green with brown stains lol….that was in 2015.
As for in alaska, cotton in winter kills, but be sure you use the fleece layers. The woodland patterns work, yet if you’re trying for the browner areas with more pines, or fall time. Use pencott badlands.
    Semper

Completely agree with you on the ridiculous use of velcro these days on combat uniforms, there's really no need for it and in terms of cargo pockets button closures are superior in almost every way. However I will say that I think where it really shines is on the cuffs and I'd say in that respect is superior to buttons since you get better range of adjustment and it's not something you're going to be messing around with a lot, once it's in position you're going to leave it there until you take off the jacket or need to air out if it gets hot. Great video definitely gives some good food for thought

Very interesting. During WW2 and the Korean War, the US Army used herringbone twill cotton fatigues. I have a pair of repro HBT fatigue pants from At The Front. The material is very very heavy. I have no idea how the troops back in the day could wear the HBTs in hot summer weather. It must have been murder. The twill and ripstop fatigues that the US military have been using for the past 40 years or so are a big improvement over HBT.

Opps the UK DPMD is not a combat jacket it's a jungle issue shirt also used in hot climes. The trousers are made of the same material on the wieast inside it has a wide Web draw cord it does have belt loops from a 58 or 70 stile belt but not worn in the jungle we used the 47 stile webbing an early LBC . The trousers unlike the European 58 pattern uniform in DPMD has a blouse type map pocket on each leg two side pockets and the Johnny pocket top thigh right side single stitch so the pocket can be ripped off this is for a field dressing hang over from the 39 battle dress

I have 2 different sets of M81 woodland BDUs. I have a twill brown dominant pair with the blouse being raid modded for winter and ripstop pair also raid modded for hotter climates

I hate Velcro. You know that feeling when you open a pocket and everything in the wood in radius of 10 miles hear you?

that uk dpm shirt is i think a trainingshirt only, 67poly 33 cotton. I have 4 of these and thats what the tags say. non ripstop and cheap. This pattern will be rare soon. If you want true combat dpm clothing you need to buy seyntex or arktis but they are fazing out the patterns and are expensive. Dutch dpm is even better

Towards the end of the dpm production all the labels said "For training purposes only " that was because the army had adopted mtp or multicam.

Amazingly yes. In fact I think it helps the performance on sunny days where you don't have canopy cover

The ACU velcro cargo pockets are the stupidest idea ever. My first military course using the ACU and I actually lost gear on the patrol. I was able to go back and recover it, but I have NEVER had pockets fail so blatantly until then. In my opinion, velcro on uniforms is as ridiculous as calling a grey based pattern "green" and using it in the desert.

Anywhere made for pens… just put an extra round of ammunition 😂 5.56 might be a little bit short for that, but eh.
