You're absolutely right, but it was also a necessity for these women. They weren't allowed to meddle in state affairs and one slip from grace could mean ruin for them and their entire maiden family, so they had to be creative in order to gain and retain favor: such as using the 'mouth of babes' technique, because few people suspected the innocent ignorance of children could be weaponized.
