The second that Genosha was presented as a mutant haven in X-Men '97, I thought, "well, hopefully we won't have to see the whole Cassandra Nova thing. Thank goodness this is a continuation of a children's series!"
RIP to: Banshee (certified badass X-Man, given no chance to shine in this series), his Nobel-prize winning lass Moira, Dazzler (WAY cooler than people give her credit for), Marrow (really!? like her life hasn't been hell enough!), Shaw (good riddance to bad rubbish), Leech (poor kid), Callisto (legend), Madelyn (already!?), and poor little Sammy Pare (we didn't get to see him rehabilitate Cain Marko) ...
This episode had me leaking from the eyes even before hearing Magneto - speaking in his native German - try to salvage a promise he made to a child...
      And then Gambit...
It's been a couple months, but I'm still trying to walk this one off.

This will be a largely unseen comment, but it's so gratifying to see someone else geeking out over the mere sight of Pixie, Glob Herman, and Exodus ... this episode had so many cameos from so many years of X-Men comics. @CERap22 Месяц назад +3

The review was from days ago, so forgive me if you've already come to terms with Gambit-- but I'm probably as die hard for Remy as you are for Rogue--- so if I may clarify the idea of Gambjt's wife:
Because if we're talking about Belladonna...then no-- he is NOT married. That ended forever ago when she died. And I feel the comic series at that time, specifically Xmen vol.2 early issues, did an excellent job portraying how two adults deal with the complications of such a scenario. Their date night was both of them coming to terms with the fact that they BOTH hide the truth from one another.
Now, regarding the animated series, Belladonna manipulated the ever living shit out of Remy ("da Tithe🤣"). He walked away from that life, and while we don't know the specifics of how he joined in the series-- he wanted to be a better person. The episode "Xternally Yours", reconciles his past and he and Rogue become more official.
Fast forward to the finale of season 2 and Gambit STRAIGHT UP tells Rogue "Gambit never say this to anyone....Gambit....love you." And they finally kiss.
Fast Forward to Asteroid M, and Gambit nearly sacrifices himself to stop Fabien Cortez's coup against Magneto.
Fast Forward to THIS series, this episode, where now we have Gambit explaining to the audience that his and Rogue's relationship was kept simple. He respected her wishes, her space, but even in THIS series, shows she is the only woman he has eyes for. He could ha e anyone and makes her his one and only.
So. Yes. He made VERY clear what she means to him. And she sat in her personal secret, until the day he dies (ofc she didn't know he'd day this night, but that's the tragedy if it.)
Let me also say that I actually deeply empathize with Rogue. She was my favorite Xgirl for decades and they are my favorite couple in comics. I'm not on here bashing her or calling her trash. I love how complicated it is and how honestly the show expresses the feelings she is wrestling with.
However, this is the same reason that I have to speak on behalf of Gambit. Because my guy KNEW what Rogue was doing since episode 2 and didn't blow her spot, didn't shit on her...but after all they've endured, he felt deeply hurt. And STILL, is man enough to graciously walk away "just friends"--- like...DAMN. What a guy punch leading up to the heart stab of him dying to end the Genosha threat.
-- also-- I'm subbing. You guys are great!

Since 97 is a continuation, I guess you can say she has technically made an appearance. I wanted to know who the other mutant psychics were because I thought they were all from the present, but they weren't. I knew who Rachel was, but obviously, it was impossible for her to be in the current timeline. Interesting thing is at the end of that arc, all the psychics combined together to defeat future apocalypse. So jean could have easily known. Same thing when she was phoenix and knew about scotts dad.

RESPECT to the comic knowledge though I think these are more strictly following the 90s animated series storylines than the comics counterparts. For instance, the series covered the Savage Land but there was no Magneto-Rogue element at all, and this take implies they connected outside of the Savage Land.
I do think Val might be a Prime Sentinel by Bastion. That's why she wasn't targeted by the Wild Sentinel and you could argue she was directing mutants to their demise in the chaos.

Not mention that the way Magneto used the train is very intentional symbolism - the man who was enslaved, who chose to stand up and say "no", made a pariah, empowered himself and those around him, was labeled a terrorist for it... he used the train like a whip. the whip being a symbol of how oppressors keep the oppressed down on their knees and afraid. he took that weapon of fear for himself and for everyone else like him and whipped his oppressors back.

And the way Nightcrawler looked around him as a blast was being prepared. He was in a crowd, and it seemed like he was quickly calculating who he could BAMF away.

This episode did a ton to redeem the thirsty simp characterizations of Gambit, Magneto, and Wolverine. Regardless of how anyone felt about these pairings and how these men pursued Rogue and Jean, all 3 of them were proven to be men of character who respected these women and their choices. God I love this show so much

New to the channel and working my way through your reactions to this show. Really great content! I don’t know what your editing process is like, but in my opinion, the videos might benefit from sometimes cutting to just one camera. There are a few times while Kayla is “cooking” that EKARD comes across as bored and/or distracted, which pulled me out of my own engagement. I’m sure that’s not what is happening, but just a thought for a potential improvement. Excited to continue with these reactions though!

Just read the wiki for "Wolverine and the X-men", when I learned that the angry hothead loner and biggest simp in the world, the guy that jumps into action without even thinking became the leader of the X-men, I kinda threw up in my mouth a little bit.
Why does Marvel keep pushing Wolverine with his Adamantium claws out into our arses over and over?
Why does Marvel keep making the X-men a stepping stone for Wolverine? (FOX already beat them to the punch)
Why does Marvel keep trying to make "Fetch" happen?
RIP Gambit for however long your death will last - You will always be my favourite. ✌️

      @@pjny21 It’s true! 👍🏻
Only when they moved to live-action FOX turned the X-men into background decorations for Wolverine, X, Magneto and Mystique.
Legion was interesting and other projects showed some promise, but...
...It’s really good to have something actually about the X-men in almost 30 years.

@@pjny21 "Wolverine and the X-Men" was produced by Marvel Entertainment and Kevin Feige. That was my complaint...
When they decided to do something with the X-men it was all about Wolverine all over again. (I did not watch it, just read the wiki)

Re Rogue, you’re going on about the comics Rogue and the shit Gambit done in there.
But those are diff versions, Rogue has to be judged on this version….and she is being the absolute worst here.

    • @raylessandrelucent
      @raylessandrelucent  Месяц назад

OTK-you are right. Comics Rogue and 97 Rogue are sliding door characterizations of each other. But we can’t deny the influences that 616 has on 97. She’s definitely not being the worse here, that’s a stretch. She’s just a woman still trying to figure out her shit. And in an ensemble show it’s hard to get character development for everyone. She’s doing what she can to get control of her powers and what she feels is right for her people. Even if that means denying her feelings for Remy to help Eric on Genosha.

U do realize that if Cable was given a DNA test, it would say that Jean is his mom. Plus, in the comics, Maddie was going to happily sacrifice him for power

    • @raylessandrelucent
      @raylessandrelucent  Месяц назад

OTK-I’m in the camp of Maddie did nothing wrong in the comics lol but yes you are right, technically dna would show Jean as his mom. And I’m was just touched that he addressed Maddie as mom because in the comics he sees Jean as him “mother”. Just thought it was touching that this Maddie and cable get that moment.

Rogue was a teenager 18-19 when she was adopted by Mystique. She's in her mid to late teens. And y the Gambit hate? Basically only the original x-men have good backgrounds. And no one thought Rogue was a bitch, that see her as human. Remember the only reason Rogue joined the X-men was to control her powers. If she already could, she would've still been a villain

    • @raylessandrelucent
