Hello, I'm facing lots of different names for this technique, I classified it in Ashi-gatame-jime as Hasami-jime. Because in the end it's not about grabbing the sleeves here... Any thoughts ?
It is a strangle (apply pressure on the arteries on either side of the neck). One common mistake I find is that people do not use their forearm/wrist to apply pressure onto the side of the neck and instead focus too much on their leg/foot, so when they try to apply pressure there is still a gap on one side. Try and apply pressure on both sides of the neck. Of course it is difficult to say why it didnt work for you without actually seeing you do it! But, please do let me know how you get on.
Thanks for the reply! I think I have found my mistake. I placed my leg too deep into the back of uke's neck (like Sankaku Jime). Maybe thats the reason why I can't apply pressure to the side of the neck. Just to confirm, the pressure on the side of the neck is applied through the forearm and the shin/calf right?
Seems nice but during the transition phase (when you change grips) it looks like there's a small window of opportunity for the hitchhiker's escape (as it's known in BJJ) because at that point you don't control where the thumb of the trapped arm is pointing. Alternatively once you remove the leg over the head there's also an opportunity for Uke to stack and escape before Tori grabs his leg. Saying this just from the looks of it without having tried it live.

Beautiful technique, sensei. Very sneaky and effective.
Amazing technique, easier to apply than I thought would be!
Absolute magic, like a rabbit out of a hat
Sensey, I am always following your videos and this video has a full right to be tagged as a golden collection.

Yes, exactly! Hopefully, you can get it to work!

I prefer grabbing the near leg in spiderweb and triangling my legs instead of using my hand.
Pretty rough on them joints!
