- A Lego crime spree is sweeping the country. Cops say more than 2,800 stolen boxes of Lego sets were discovered in a California house. A mountain of stolen Legos worth $200,000 was discovered by cops in Oregon following a sting operation. Some of those elaborate sets resell for thousands of dollars. Doug Davis, owner of It’s A Block Party, says the problem has gotten so bad his staff now carry guns to protect their Legos. Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero has more.

Prices aren't really going up. It's a matter of number of sets made for any particular set Lego puts out. The less made, the more valuable it becomes once they no longer put it out there.

Ultimately anyone spending ridiculous amounts on Lego has convinced themselves they somehow "need" that product in their life opposed to just "wanting" it, and thats what drives this insanity.. The marketing has achieved its goal. People need to change their mind state

My sons loved Lego. They had so many sets they kept them and passed them down. Thank goodness because I would go broke making sure my grandbabies had lots of great building sets…
Same, I have 4 large containers full of them and 3 full of duplo's. Son loved them, one grandson 18 loved them, now son and wife expecting a boy, they just keep changing households.

Lego is not the problem as a parent of two it is the Duplo. Duplo is absolute theft. 😡 There is no way it's reasonable for a child level designed box of 20 pieces be priced at $20. 😱 Half of those blocks sometimes seem to be specifically shaped for that set. I love Lego at the end of the day though.
100$ is cheap for a big set, they were only 80-90 dollars when I was a kid. Now a gunship is like 150-160 tax included.

You have to happen to pick the right sets that will appreciate and then hang onto them safely for 20+ years and not look at the box, let alone touch it, for fear of causing the box to get marred.
I’ve worked in a store that sells lego for almost 5 years now, and it just doesn’t stop. I’m lucky if they end up being pushovers when I confront and they leave without issue, but some get violent and they threaten to hurt me. Just go get a job you lowlife.

I’m 20 and absolutely love Lego. It relaxes me and is just super enjoyable to build. I only buy them on clearance or rollback though because of how expensive they’re getting. It’s ridiculous

They’re so expensive they’re basically unattainable for the average person, if something unattainable it’s more likely to be stolen. Maybe they should hire strong arms and security. Legos have always been assets, protect said assets.

I mean I can't say I'm angry with people stealing overpriced merchandise and reselling it for a more reasonable rate, but stealing someone's personal build or sets is so cruel. As a builder it would suck so bad to have your hard work stolen.
