- In today's video we take a look at a 2010 Toyota Camry that is a no and no start. While I was hoping that we were going to find something more interesting and complicated like a bad relay or a wiring problem, it turns out the car just needed a new battery. Follow along as I show you how to test and replace a dead battery. I also show you a quick throttle body relearn technique for fixing the start and stall issue that happens after replacing the battery.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I used your link below and brought one of these testers.
Love your diagnostic videos ! Very down to earth, on your explanations.
Even if it was just a battery issue, your videos are always educational... I am not based in the US otherwise would have participated in this give away draw... Thanks again for your videos.. Keep up the great content
Thanks for the video, always interesting, I try to watch them all regardless of content and title, just a general fan. Keep up the great work
Even your simple videos are very informative and all your videos are awesome.
Thanks for being a mechanic that problem-solves, not just a parts cannon. The industry needs more like you. I love following your thinking process and often I'm right there with you deciding where I would go next to isolate the true issue. #giveaway
Enjoyed your amazing efforts on the viper and all things since. Keep up the hard work
Great show one thing I can say I always learn something off of your videos how simple or complicated the diag is …
As always Eric a very informative video..thanks for your time and effort making all your great videos.
Always look forward to your videos. Looks like things are taking a turn for the better!
Good show sir.. Neat to see the tech advances.. I still have 1 of those old school handheld load testers.. Keep the hustle homie
Your videos have always helped me!!!
The first time I changed the battery in my 2008 Fusion was a disaster, it took several days for it to re-learn even. Total disaster. The second time I used alligator clips and made power jumpers so that it never went completely dead. Worked perfectly.
I enjoy your videos hermano, always straight forward and full of information. I was laid off from a honda dealership on January and since then I decided to go as a mobile mechanic. It broke my heart when you lost your shop, because and I watched that video right after I became jobless but you gave me so much encouragement by saying something along -yes im loosing my shop but I’ll keep working on cars because knowledge is something Im taking with me everywhere i go, and yes I’ll get back on my feet- thanks for your motivation Eric. #giveaway
You’re a great teacher even for an old guy like me
5 years out of a battery is not too shabby at all.
That's how long mine lasted, before dying in this heat last month. It is an AGM battery, so it was about $200. I bought the exact same brand as a replacement, so if I get another 5 years out of it, I'll be happy.
Basics are always under appreciated man. Great tool. Glad to see your channel growing man. #giveaway
For negative grounded vehicles, you always disconnect the negative battery terminal first and reconnect the negative last. This is for safety purposes. If the ground is disconnected, it prevents you from shorting the battery by, say, a wrench contacting the positive terminal and the body. Bridging the negative terminal, on the other hand, is no concern because you're just connecting a ground to a ground. I hope that helps clear up things a bit for those who may have been interested. #Giveaway
Hey good on you for doing the giveaway. Your videos always add to my arsenal of automotive knowledge. Regards...
I’ve been a mechanic for only a short time of 5 years. Watch all your videos just to see how other people go about diagnosis. Always trying to learn something new! Thank you. #Giveaway
Was for sure thinking this was a bad ground. Nice to have a battery analyzer tool or a scan tool that can load test a battery. Sometimes they are really just that simple but having the data to backup the diagnosis is gold. Great video! #Giveaway
Thank you. The idle relearn fix the shaking at a stop light with A/C. 12 corolla S. Saw on Toyota forums that it was "normal". I know it isn't bc the 2010 corolla does not do this
Your diagnostic skills are superb, Eric! I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos for us! #giveaway
I always clean the alternator power wire terminal, that feeds the Battery. On my 2010 Camry, the terminal on the heavy lead coming out off the alternator needed cleaning. The nut was frozen on so I soaked with with PB Blaster and Kroil for a few days, to make the nut come off , so I could clean the terminal and wire end. My few alternator problems were caused by a dirty terminal on the alternator.
I love these vids so much, really appreciate all you do
I always put the positive cable on first. That way, there isn't a spark show if your wrench touches the positive and ground.
Now that most batteries are " sealed " ( not really) & supposedly maintenance free the chance of hydrogen catching a spark is minimal , yet I still assume that a battery is potentially explosive & turn my head to face away from the dud battery if I'm jumping or even making the last ( always negative) connection. Shorted cells can also cause an explosion when jumped/ being fast charged.
I put the neutral wire on first. It makes all the difference.
@@fredsalter1915neutered wire
Positive on first, Negative off first.. PONO
@@mikeschaner5853 Yes, a good acronym to remember the re& re procedure.
I keep an insulated long & short 10 mm battery side post ratcheting wrenches in my kit. Very handy for some tight locations.
Great video. I'm a retried electrical engineer from Tektronix and very impressed with your troubleshooting and schematic reading skills. I like to connect the positive terminal first and disconnect the negative terminal first in case I touch the chassis grounded parts with wrench. I keep the other terminal covered so as to prevent terminal to terminal short.
#giveaway
Very cool tool! That would be great for service calls!
I don't want the battery analyzer. I want the inflatable orca!!!!
PS- why didn't you check the water level inside of the "bad" battery?
Love *ALL* of your vids, good sir!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep them coming!
Came just to watch my guy do work and left buying a battery tester lol good stuff brother
Toyota actually has several different relearn procedures, some of the earlier (2000ish) models had no procedure, just had to drive for a day or so and the idle would figure itself out eventually. Thanks for the awesome content as always, be blessed brother.
#giveaway
Thank you I never knew all you have to do is turn the key off and on
Thanks for your videos, I have learn a lot!!
I just cant seem to get enough of this channel! Even something as simple as a bad battery. #Giveaway
Awesome video as usual. Question, is that basically just for Toyota's to relearn the throttle body?
I already have the same unit for the givaway, ordered one after seeing you use it in a different video.
I learned it from the Nissan technical manual, but I found that it works with many different manufactures.
Bad batteries are extremely common. Everyone expects them to last forever. Very nice portable battery tester, Everyone should test their battery as seasons change IMO #Giveaway
Did not know about relearn on electronic throttle body...thanks "Grandmaster" !!!!!! :)
Just found you recently. Really like how you Inspect and diagnose problems to see exactly what the problem is instead of just replacing what the scanner tells you to. #Giveaway
Always good to see a process ... checking the basic things first #Giveaway
Every video with diagnostics, big or small, someone will learn something new.
Great tip with the TPS, I'm sure a lot of people don't know simple things like this, and these little tips are probably the most helpful to the "everyday" guy that is doing basic mechanical work on their car. Keep up the good work. #Giveaway
Simple and to the point. Keep putting out the great videos! #giveaway
The idle relearn thing was a nice tech tip.
I've been watching your videos during the last week one after the other, very interesting and educational. Thanks a lot regardless of the #giveaway. Greetings from Tangier, where the Mediterranean and the Atlantic meet.
I'm always up for a good #giveaway. I've been eyeing this tester for a while now.
I know you thought the video was a dud but I learned a lot. These can be a little tricky sometimes for a novice like me so I like to see a pro diagnose these new computerized charging systems. I have an 08 GMC Acadia now that keeps going dead. The owner was telling me it was the alternator but after checking it was the battery. #Giveaway
Very straightforward diagnostic video! Clear and simple explanations! I like it.
#giveaway
I enjoy you random tips, like the idle relearn... those tips are very handy to know. Thanks for your vids and professionalism! #Giveaway
Nice quick fix, on location!
Excellent tutorial
You have really inspired me to get the great tools! I got one of those power probes and the thinkdiag scanner. I've upped my game helping others because of you! thanks again! #Giveaway
Greg from northern Michigan. Your diagnostic skills are excellent. So is this compact battery / charging system diagnostic tool. I always start by trying to duplicate the problem, followed by a quick visual inspection of the main components involved before moving into deeper more involved diagnostic tests. Corroded ground cable ends on the vehicle frame should also be examined too. Thanks for these educational videos.
heck , i think thats why my kia keeps dieing after i start it , replaced battery , checked that fuse , and just dies after you start it with new battery , alternator checks good , im going to try that on and off switch right now , thanks for the heads up ....if i dont win that tester , ive won with getting car started .....! great vedio and great advise thanks .....marcus in west texas
Always nice to have a good video that inst and crazy issue in a wiring circuit and not jumping the gun and shooting the part cannon at it . PROPs to you bro #giveaway
Love your videos no matter how short or boring you might think it is. I always learn something new! #Giveaway
#giveaway and I still think your wiring diagram explanations are miles better than any other tech channel, more of those please.
I didn't know about the throttle body relearn!
#giveaway
Liked
Thanks for the video!
Life is a learning curve!
Hindsight is 20-15!
Your videos show the real life hands on scenarios that you face everyday, keep up with the great content. #giveaway
Your diagnostics skills are always top notch. Great content. #Giveaway
Makes my day when you post a new video, b/c your videos are always so informative & helpful. thx.. #Giveaway
That's why everyone should have a jump pack and know how to replace a battery or know when they might be beginning to fail
Looks like a decent little tool. Excited for the #giveaway
Negative or positive seems to depends more in cold climates. Lead acid Batteries can explode or have any lingering hydrogen ignite from a spark. I've never seen it or heard of it happening where I live, but I don't live in a cold climate.
AvE is very adamant about it, but I can't remember which terminal first 🤔
Test, don't guess right? I liked your thoroughness in finding the actual problem. #GIVEAWAY
#Giveaway
Yep, that battery looks a bit crusty. I tell my customers replace it every 3 to 4 years regardless. Gone are the days when the bat. gives you a warning by slower cranking speed. Nice job as usual my friend
What battery charger/maintainer you recommend to buy?
I really appreciate the content of your videos. You are very good at explaining your troubleshooting steps, keep em coming!
#Giveaway
Yes I have the Same exact battery tester that I bought from Kingbolen! I love the features and it works great! I would definitely recommend to anyone! Thanks for the video Eric :-)
I liked the video learned how to test.
Nice quick and easy fix on that one. I'll try for this #Giveaway I might get lucky!
Quick and fast Diag. Great job ! #giveaway
Great lesson on the electronic throttle body relearn!! Two thumbs up!! #giveaway
Love your Videos and how you work through all the details even with the schematics and wiring diagrams. Keep up the good work. #Giveaway
Nice work and always great videos! Keep it up #Giveaway
#Giveaway Love your videos! Always learn something new! Thanks for the opportunity! :)
enjoy your RUclips video's they really help understand electronics a whole lot easier than most folks out there trying to do the same. Thanks for what you do ! # Giveaway
I have changed batteries ended finally had a new starter. Alternator. Fuses all good. I have to use a battery maintainer. And give it a false charge with a charger just to trick the maintainer. I have a parasitic drain and can’t find it even going fuse to fuse. I believe it is the 3rd brake light had the whole thing replaced since it was burnt and melted basically. Still same issue and the radio will be next since it has volume issues and change station issues. Once I run the car for a couple hours all my lights come on for engine, anti slip etc on the dash. Put a a diagnostic on and shows all ok no error codes? i give up
A great and useful battery and charging system analyser. It worked great for your application. #Giveaway
Like how thorough your videos are explaining your logic for the troubleshooting process. #Giveaway
#giveaway

I have only recently discovered your channel and wish it was recommended sooner. Great tips and enjoy your process. #giveaway
Great video as always. Giveaway it’s a plus 😉 keep them coming. #Giveaway
Seems to be a pretty good tester. Great help on checking battery. #Giveaway
I like the idle relearn procedure that you showed on this video. #Giveaway
Fantastic video. There's no such thing as a bad video when it comes to Advance Level Automotive. #Giveaway
I think the most valuable thing about that BM508 is the ripple test! It takes an expensive multimeter to attenuate the level of milivolts needed for AC ripple. In my experience ripple is the #1 cause of failed computers and too often goes unchecked. Diodes are cheap; computers aren't! #Giveaway
I really enjoy your videos! They are very informative and easy to understand! I am a very avid auto repair enthusiasts and your channel is on my top 5 brother. Support a fellow Texan ✋🤠👍 Keep the good content coming and God Bless #GIVEAWAY!!
Really enjoy your videos and I also live near Houston #Giveaway I learn a lot from your videos. thanks, keep up the good work.
I love your videos. You give such details and you make sure your viewers understand what you are doing. Thank you.
#Giveaway
Good video. Small things can cause big issues. Always a good explanation of the problem and the fix. #Giveaway
I like how you also tested the alternator first to make sure it was the battery. #giveaway
I think that I know every thing how to check and confirm the dead battery. But I still learning some thing in your video. I learn how to check the date of battery M6 vs Dec. 16. I learn how to relearn the idle for drive by wire throttle body. I impressed with battery checking and alternator checking by Kingbolen BM508 Battery Analyzer. Thank you very much for quick and useful video. Hope to see you one day in Houston TX. #Giveaway
#Giveaway
Very informative video. Great job Eric! I really enjoy watching your videos and your thought process is spot on!
You always do an excellent job of explaining everything you do. Keep up the great work! #Giveaway
Thank you for all the great help!!! #Giveaway
It does matter to connect positive first, or remove negative first. In both cases, risk of shorting electricity by metal touching is not happening.
