The mischievous elf is a hypocrite! He tattles on the kids, then does bad things! We chose to have him do kindnesses and spread love. He’s found doing good deeds and hugging other doll friends. Writing encouraging notes, leaving treats, etc.
I love this 😂
Right?! We don’t have our elf do anything super bad, just silly things like toilet papering the tree or putting googly eyes on our family pictures. But we also don’t tell her that the elf reports behavior. That feels really wrong.
I don't have a pile of kids +2 parent's shoes in my entryway area, just my own single pair of flip flops (my 1 pair of heels I FINALLY graduated too (I'm disabled so couldn't wear heels for YEARS!!!! But finally not only feel stable enough to buy 1 pair for special occasions and date nights, but also they are super treaded so ultra secure on the ground for me & old ladies!!! lol)
Back to our entryways... So I keep my heels in my clothes closet & I keep my sneakers on my treadmill (bc that's where I use them twice every day, plus only several feet away from the front door of my apartment)
That said, I STILL LOVE coming home to that fresh beautiful smelling home each time I open my front door & walk in!
Soooo, I have exactly 2 Febreze plugins, 1 in my bathroom (plus a Febreze spray bottle bc it IS the bathroom... enough said) and the other plugin is plugged in right next to the front door (inside of course).
So everytime I (or anyone) walks into my apartment, it smells AMAZINGLY CLEAN AND FRESH!
(unless I need to clean the litter boxes, bc I just threw my back out soooo scheduling someone to clean the 2 for 2 kitties during the holidays is a bit hard this month! Poor kitty noses are even more sensitive than mine :( lol but so far so almost good;)

I am disabled and struggling with my housekeeping. Genius idea: if you have a walker with a seat, put your tidy tote or basket on the seat and it works great for putting things away

Re: baseboards- take that swiffer and go around the baseboards on a regular basis. It takes seconds, and really saves the knees!
I thought I was the only person in the world who has to take an arm break when pulling the shower curtain down 😂

I agree my house stays tidy and if it gets messy it doesn't take me long to tidy it up because I've decluttered, organised and everything has a home. But yes I still need to clean as there is a big difference between tidy and clean however like you Cas I prefer to tidy and need to motivate myself to clean. Usually I listen to your podcasts then when I clean which makes cleaning not so boring. 😅

Elf on a shelf was not a thing until my “kids” were grown. When I started seeing it in stores I had no idea what the heck it was until I started watching social media. Then I was glad I didn’t have that to do when they were little. It is funny to see it though, and yours was hilarious. Fitting for you. If you ever want to stop doing RUclips, you could be a comedian!!

Add 😊a piece of lemon or squirt of lemon juice in the bowl in the microwave. It makes the whole kitchen smell amazing. Then grind the lemon rind in the garbage disposal. Holy cow it smells so fresh !!

I just have one suggestion. Check your trash can. I grab a lysol wipe when the bag is full and give the trach can lid (inside and out) a quick wipe down. Get any chunks or drips that dried. Toss it in, tie it up and take out the trash. I've been to clean spaces but then go to throw trash away and been blown away, super grossed out, by the trash area.... just saying.

You’re a great cheery voice relief girl! Today I was driving and listening to Anderson Coopers podcast on grief. He was talking to a mom who had a stillborn baby girl! I had so many tears in my eyes driving, it was becoming unsafe for the public. So, bump to next podcast and there you are with your cheery voice! Thank God! My heart will return to that mom for months to come, but…I could see AND pick up a few tips besides!!

as for the kids, you know, we can do our very best (and no fun), but they will still find a reason to need therapy (i mean, the current world we live in!...), so at least you gave them example of playfulness and unbridled creativity - a win in my book (but then again, neurodivergent, so i don't know if my opinion is very reliable).

Cass I have to thank you for your motivation! Yesterday we had someone come into check out smoke detectors and fire extinguisher, I managed to clean up a spot in the upstairs hallway that has been driving me crazy for awhile now! Now if I can use that motivation for decluttering the rest of the house and organizing it!

Quick tip about stainless steel, you can use cheap white vinegar diluted in water to clean it streak-free.
Actually, you can use this formula everywhere in your house (except on marble and stone), I do, even on wood and tiled floors.
