- Destroyed by a series of brutal storms, the village of Dunwich on England's east coast was once, around 1,000 years ago, one of the 10 largest settlements in England. Now all that's left from the original city, is the ruin of a leper chapel, and a friary.

Up in my neck of the woods - Dunwich is a wonderful place. Very atmospheric and has a history to rival that of London, so much so that it was once more important.
To any visitors to the area, I'd recommend a visit to the Museum as they have a model of the old City of Dunwich which shows how big the place was and how much has been lost to the sea.
The Priory site is now very close to the cliffs edge, and there used to be a graveyard that has now fallen to the sea.
You can easily walk from Dunwich to Walberswick (though the pebble beach is challenging underfoot), Southwold being the other side of the River (which you've covered in a previous video).
Ahhhhh I missed the museum- I will return. This is really useful, I’ll pin this comment. Thanks Paul
@@FreddieDobbs If I recall correctly it isn't open all year - but it's a fascinating model they have and you really understand the scale of the city.
Thanks for taking us along Freddie
Another smashing video with Freddie
Thanks AJ!🙌🏻
Just returning home after a month touring your beautiful countryside. In no small part inspired by your videos like this . Really enjoy the combination of bikes and interesting exploring . Nice Freddie , keep it up.
Cracking video Freddie, love historic videos like this with that motorbike touch. You deliver it all exceptionally!
Great work and very interesting Freddie. Thank you so much.
Freddie , love the channel, it's that every place you visit it makes me want to go there
Lovely to get Freddied at this time of day… will enjoy 🙏🏻
Thanks Guy, I hope you enjoy it
Music absolutely perfect 😍
Classy , beautifully filmed
They do say in deepest dark Suffolk on ghostly nights when the wind is howling and the moon is full ,but partially obscured by cloud ! When the wind dies down for a short time you can still hear the bells of Dunwich Church . They say when the church tower fell into the sea , the tower remained up right and the waves could still swing the bells and ring it's chimes out on stormy nights for years afterwards !! Now they can only be heard only occasionally on eerie nights when the moon is full !
love the bits you do as well as the bikes
A joy as always
Thanks Richard!
Amazing. The sense of adventure and the scenery. 🌹
History and motorbikes, excellent, Freddie, off to Prague myself for the Christmas markets, hope you have a good time.
Great video, loved the Story. That is a lovely bike as well.
Thanks🙌🏻
The Bobber Scout in “Matt black” was my dream Motorcycle - I must admit that Red paint is growing on me (all except for that utterly ludicrous “Billboard” pretending to be a number plate - what are the Authorities smoking ? Luckily here in Oz, common sense prevailed and our plates are thin, trim and barely wider that the mudguard). Love the varied content in your videos, great work both of you.
Hi Freddie, I've found story of destroyed settlement very interesting. Let me suggest Dungeness as one of your future destinations. I had travelled length and breadth of Britain and found it one of most interesting places.
Great video Freddie. Its such a shame we have to have such massive ugly number plates in this country.
A match for the massive ugly bike 😅
Wonderful video as always. I hope this type of England doesn't dissappear
Thank you for sharing!
Great video Freddie, a beautiful motorcycle and some history 👌
Enjoy your stag do Freddie 😉
Any time in Prague is great. We have been every year for a sort break for as long as i can remember.Fabulous beer.Enjoy.
Hi Freddie, another great video about an almost forgotten little town, swallowed up by the sea a ages ago....as a stonemason and bike rider I like this combination of history and riding very much. Speaking of bikes : am I the only one thinking that the Indian´s exhaust is completely blown out of proportion on an otherwise very well designed machine ?? Greetings from Germany, enjoy Prag and visit the old jewish cemetery, I think you might like the place...
I was expecting the sea to part so Freddie could walk across to Amsterdam.
Great video Freddie already planning an end of season ride there this Sunday with a bunch of friends (weather permitting) 🍻
Love Dunwich. It's heavily featured in the fantastic BBC Radio 4 drama "Whisperer In The Darkness ".
Great intuative video Freddie. Thanks!.
Looks a lovely spot
I've never seen a bloke come and go so much as Freddie does, he's either arriving taking his helmet off, or leaving putting it on and doing up his coat ! Seems to work though !
Nice job 👏
The red of that Indian really looks lovely in the sunshine….. interesting video as ever Freddie 👍
This was great to watch. I lived in Friston for a few years from 2000 so I explored these areas on my Africa Twin and Diversion 600. Unfortunately I was oblivious to most of the history then but good to recognize a few places.
I also had no clue- 90% of places I visit are from people recommending them to me (which is incredible🙌🏻)
Very nice history!
Cool ride out on the road. Would also love to do that.👍🏻
thoe were the days , no Sadik Khans .
Looks like a very interesting place. I'm sure we visited once when i was just a little nipper, i know we stayed in a cottage in Westleton. I really should go back again sometime.
Have a fantastic weekend in Czech 🍺🍺
Great video. Is that a new Belstaff jacket Freddie ?
I always think that's a cop out when people say, "I don't ever have cash on me" 😂.
Another excellent video. May I urge you, and others too, to use cash, at least some of the time. Why? To keep it going for older and less privileged persons. And to maintain the freedoms for which our near ancestors sacrificed their lives. If you do not understand this, please think, and if you still do not understand, research. If not time will be at your peril.
Great Vid Freddie 🤗
The rear plate looks awful on the left of the vehicle, I wonder if it could hang on the rear and look so so so much better 🤔
Freddie ❤ ur vlogs
Appreciate it Karteek 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Come on Freddie, you speak of the poor folk suffering leprosy, as if they were a subspecies, rather than a terrible infliction and folk in other parts of the world still are suffering it.
Not my sort of bike, but it suits you and what a fascinating place.
You not alone
educational Freddie….. but you’ll have to give us more coverage of the Indian!
Absolutely- there will be a review video coming:)
Nice❤
🙌🏻🙌🏻
It’s one aaaaagh from Ipswich! What does that mean?🤣
“Don’t give up you’re no alone” Hey, but what about us lone’s 😢
Great video, love that part of the country but really not a fan of the pinky red of the bike, though we do like an Indian over a Harley 😊
The fenders look like they are off a trailer. Looks like a makeshift build done with what ever was laying around and fit.
Very good to hear your thoughts🙌🏻🙌🏻
It's ugly
10:22 ‘Alone’
I think the exhaust pipes should be made even longer😂
They are quite long, I can’t lie
What chance of survival would that converted red telephone box have if it was located in London , zero I'd expect.
Great video man as usual you're ratty10
'Stag-do', 'Hen-night' . . . no one has a 'Doe-do', & 'Cock-a-doodle-do' was taken by fowl means : )
12:34 …. and the meak shall inherit the earth.
Looking forward to some reviews of the Indian. If money was no issue I would get one, however will more than likely get a ised speedmaster 1200 or sport glide
That’s a superb trio of bikes to consider, and all at different price points… This is very very tough
… and used Speedmasters are quite tempting value now
@@FreddieDobbs I always come back to the SM1200 when contemplating. Maybe in the spring to sit alongside my Tiger 800
How do you find the ergonomics of the bike teapot one said he loved the engine but found the riding position very uncomfortable
I love it- for me, it’s pretty close to perfect. Certainly all day comfort in my eyes👌🏻
That bike is sex on wheels. I'd have that over any Harley.
What was that motorbike he was on?
The rear number plate looks crap; would be better moved up and central
I’d be curious to see how much of an improvement a smaller plate would make… and also central. I quite like it side mounted, but the British plates are so gigantic
That number plate sticking out over the side is so utterly ridiculous and ugly. It's such a stupid design.
Bike suits you. Pity its not suited to British roads. Film Prague. That would be something 😂.
It’s definitely for the best that Prague wasn’t filmed😆
@@FreddieDobbs shame. 😅
If it’s lost, how did you find it? 😂😂
A fair point!😆
Great video Freddie. So the sea level was rising well before the invention of the internal combustion engine and the industrial revolution…. Who knew!! Looking forward to your review on the Indian. 👍
Dunwich is proof that this is true🌊
Really glad you enjoyed the video, thanks Andrew🙌🏻
Nice scenery, but what about the bike,we really learnt nothing about the Indian , thought this was a bike channel !
They must have suffered a lot of global warming 1,000 to 2,000 years ago.
I can’t argue with this😆
More Indian less Dunwich
Fred, does your riding pants has armors in it while you were riding? it looks like I can see your knee caps from the video
Ayeoo, anyone know what's the name of that jacket he's wearing?
Looks like a Merlin
