No super powers, no ghosts etc just hand to hand combat

Regardless of whatever flaws the show has, the fact remains that this anime is truly one of the greatest visual spectacles from an animation and choreography standpoint that we’ve ever seen
The whole anime was a big meh, but the animation quality and style of the fights "at least those without all that supernatural "BS" were outstanding. Kudos to MAPPA as always.

@@Yomoscis my only problem was the fucking pacing it felt like they just skipped to the fights, that's why I like the comics much more cuz it didn't just skip to shit it would actually take time away from the fights and allow you to learn about a character while this just feels more like just fighting, dragon ball Z had better pacing then this...
I am a webtoon reader and enjoy the webtoon more as a whole but damn, i have to give credit to the team of animators because this is awesome

I remember this anime started as a webtoon. The creator would engage the audience and would be so transparent about his process about days he felt unsure about the story etc etc but glad to see he still made something good

Lmao no way. 3 stage hoechooke (triple kick) would 100% be one of his specials. His ultimate would either be Jin Hoechooke (True round kick), Jin Mori Original: Ice Kick (Blue Dragon Tempest), or he'd go Monkey King mode and summon lightning with Nimbus - Fall: Geundoowun (Strike: Kinto-un).

No that's now how it works. This story is was rushed. Having a 2nd season wouldn't sound good if it get's rushed again.
This shit would've been top ten if the pacing wasn't so bad
PLEASE it had so much potential but I just couldn’t get into it because of how rushed it felt. The animation was 10/10 but everything went so fast and the plot was so inconsistent that you couldn’t even form any kind of attachment to the storyline or the characters :(

@@tam_la you should! It’s free! And it’s pretty funny with the 4th wall! Also I have noticed there is a lot of differences between the first episode in the first four episodes of the web tune. Nothing too drastic, but I heard that as the show goes on there’s a bunch of differences. Basically the anime is still a very fun and charming, but if you want more story and character the web tune is way better. Though as disappointing as the anime was I still think it’s a pretty fun anime to watch. I would even say it’s pretty good in the entertainment quality. But unfortunately I had to butchered a story.

The amv-esque directing is the only thing that made me keep watching through those 13 episodes. This Manhwa should've never been adapted. On the flip side, I hope a second season of Tower of God happens. That Manhwa is amazing. Although I have a lot of catching up to do.

I think in terms of having fancy, showy, high skilled techniques the GoHS fights definitely do amazingly, but otherwise it sucks a lot.
Like look at the hit at 0:41. If we assume both fighters are doing their best and if you got any idea how hard it would be to pull that kind of bullshit off without being significantly punished for it then you'd know that in real life the person doing it has to be reading their opponent like a damn kid's book. Which implies they're leagues above their opponent. Sure we, the audience can just give the benefit of the doubt make our own bs explanation; we can say Han got lucky or that Jin had didn't recognize the move and thus didn't know how to react (please for the love of god don't say something like "He was holding back". Only show I know that makes that explanation work is DBZ), but at that point, the fight is starting to feel like an asspull.
AND THEN WE GET A ZOOM IN; that's stupid. It's also not the only stupid camera choice made. If the goal is to show off great choreography then how tf is anyone going to enjoy it with this zoom in? Like, did Han just choose to knee Jin in the face again? With the same knee? Don't think too deeply about it, cause if you do it'd be more obvious that this shit doesn't make sense from a fighter's perspective. So we gotta hide it with a zoom in.
Additionally, their special moves? Their ace in the holes? Jin's at 1:47 and Han's 2:00? What are they? Jin just teleports and spins and the audience just has to assume it was cool. Han does a turtle, a bird, a tiger, and a dragon stance thing. Which looks like a fully body straight punch, some kind of no contact bs hit, a bunch of wild haymakers, and ... some sort no direct contact bs energy blast(wtf, I thought one of points of this show was that there was no super powers). What is cool is subjective, but I definitely have higher expectations for what's supposed to be cool special moves.
But I gave up on the show after a few episodes, so idk. I also tried the webtoon, also gave up on it.
You're trying too hard to bring realism into anime. It is anime, shit like the triple kick at 1:47 and the 4 phase attack at 2:00 are meant to be like that. If you knew some history on the sort of special move Han does, then you'd know it's the four eastern gods - tortoise, bird, tiger, dragon. There are many other shows that you can apply exactly what you're going on about and it would make any other fighting show to you look bad. If you actually watched the show all the way through, you'd know that it's not meant to be completely on the ground fighting. It also sounds like you watched this with the thoughts of it being purely martial arts only and nothing more. If you want that sort of fighting go watch Hajime no Ippo. The "superpowers" are meant to be a thing. The whole God part in the name of the show would imply that. You seem really nit-picky for a show like this. One last point, the webtoon is the better way to see the story of this show. Anime adaptation ruined it and a season 2 will highly likely never happen unless they really do decide to poorly adapt it again. If you didn't like the webtoon, The God of High School isn't for you.

Idc if the special moves are intended to be the way they are, they got their flaws. Idk about you, but I prefer seeing hits make contact instead of just assuming the hits did and that it was cool. And if those flaws are intended, then that makes it worse overall, don't it?
Who cares if there are worse fighting shows then GoHS? Doesn't make GoHS any better. If I was served a shit pizza and the chef said "Ey, coulda been worse" I wouldn't think the pizza is any less shit.
What's it matter if the fights are or aren't supposed to be ground fighting?
You know what nit-picky means? Cause if I'm being nit-picky, that means I'm complaining about small details unreasonably. I'm complaining about fight choreography/fighter's competency, the camera work, and the special moves. Are these small details to you?
Plus I'm only mentioning a few flawed moments among a substantial many. Which would mean I'm doing the opposite of nit picking. Another flawed moment is before Jin does his three kick special. He jumps over Han, slides AWAY, camera zooms in to Jin's face, and it cuts to Jin's foot SUDDENLY sliding and flying TOWARDS Han's face. When and how did he change his momentum? Idfk. Did the camera hide it? Did the fight choreographer forget how momentum works for a bit? Idfk.
I mention the energy bast because it just seemed like a sudden change. We got all these fighters whose styles are based off of real ones, and the whole fight up then looks like all the techniques are base off of irl ones, and then BAM, we get a energy bast that's supernatural. So I was trying to be rhetorical, but did it poorly since I didn't want focus on it too much, cause idc much if the fights are or aren't supposed include superpowers or not. I didn't think anyone would read so deeply into it as you did. I think you read too deep into it. Fair enough to say I'm biased, less fair to claim what my biases are.
Thanks for a reply, didn't think anyone would. I saw a lot of praise for the fights and I wanted an detailed explanation for why it gets as much as it does, cause I think it's overhyped, but I haven't found one, so I decided to vent about it and speak my mind about the flaws I see in it. The best praise I can give it is that it has a bunch of fancy moves and it's animated well. But its shortcomings? How it displays the fighter's competency/the choreography, the camera work, the special moves which should be highlights of the fight; I can't get past these flaws. I think it's like watching a 7/10 stick fight but not with sticks. I realize the fights are good enough for some people, but it's not for me.
Man this whole Manga was a love letter to Journey to the West.
It'd be nice to have seen it adapted all the way and not ruined. But it seems good though.

Well I'm not trying to put these out as the original. The point is for the fights to be in 60fps and that's all it is. Yea it's not completely smooth and the tearing can be seen. But I state it in my description

"nyoibo" will forever be lacking compared to "Yeoui" also most of these fights, especially certain parts of the fights, were meant to be a lot more one sided than they were shown

I remember saying I thought the fight choreography in this anime was better than JJKs
JJK has since caught up and (potentially) even surpassed this choreography, but this still stands strong
Edit: Ok the hand-to-hand fights are still WAY better
The fights in both are great but JJK has definitely gone beyond this I would say

IDC what Japanese fanboys but webtoon surely produced a visual and animation masterpiece with this one. The action in this anime is also top notch, which you will never get tired of seeing
I get what they mean with flaws…
1. The fights weren’t this long, but I like how long they are here, more visual appeal and all.
2. Ilpyo bodied Mori in a couple of seconds when he unleashed the Nine Tailed Fox, like, Mori didn’t even stand a chance.
3. Mori didn’t rediscover his identity as the Monkey King in Ilpyo’s fight, but when Taek had his last transformation.
4. Mori didn’t fight with Taek for that long, he just used Yeoui like 3 times and spammed his thunder cloud XD
I really hate that they cut the Mira fight with Ilpyo, when I saw that they had changed the rules for the 3v3 tournament I was pretty disappointed about all the stuff we wouldn't get to see animated, like mori bodying the entire priest team with 1hp

the thing is, the fights might be flashy and kinda cool to look at...
but with no substance + lore, 90% of the show felt like yeah, i finished this episode, then, next one, and onto the next, and suddenly u end up feeling nothing, even with the first fight shown, they really want the spectator to feel like there is more to that fight, like a friendship rivalry thing going on... but meh, u dont feel that cause all the freaking series feels rushed, things just happen and characters are super forgetable, i mean, the freaking protagonist looks like the people i used to draw and post as an edgy kid in deviant art when i was 13 yo u.u

Why is no one talk about these fights. This anime has some of the best fight scenes in anime. Plus it's Sun Wukong one of my favorite Deities in history. Bro is immortal in like 9 different ways, how the fuck do you stack up immortalities 😂😂. That is literally one of the most ludicrous things I ever heard of in fiction.
Couple of reasons why no one goes on about it anymore. Overshadowed. Ruined adaptation if you read the manhwa. No continuation since it came out, probably never getting a season if anything.
This would be talked about still if done right and had a continuation but unfortunately it does not. I enjoyed it as an anime only at least.
