My Great Uncle was a member here for over 50 years. I was fortunate enough to play 9 holes with him in his final years. It’s a memory I’ll cherish forever. When he past I went with my mum to collect his stuff, the club were wonderful and hosted us for lunch and chatted about our memories of him. Glad you enjoyed it and really happy to see it again for the full 18! Special place!
@@wirick31I’m 28 and only started playing golf when I was in my early 20’s so it was a short window. I wish I could play it again now I’m a bit better, the bunkers are no fun when you’re just starting out!
Peter really has the most entertaining banter of all the RUclips high level golfers. Very engaging for the viewer, charm and humor just rolling through the screen.
From Seattle I got the chance to play this track with my dad who has stage 4 cancer and my brother last week and I couldn’t agree more. Special memories for my favorite in the world as well! Great vid!
As a Dub myself, I am lucky enough to play here, I just wanted to say thank you for covering the east coast of our country. Don't get me wrong, the west is the crown of the jewel, but over time and with foreigners, especially the east coast doesn't get the rep it should also get. I am still gutted to miss seeing you at my club, Tulfarris, last year! Hopefully, next time you're out this way, I'll get yourself to The Island, Royal Dublin. Maybe even Howth or Corballis for a quirkier experience.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL COURSE!!! Thanks for showing it off to us Old Gents in North Carolina . . . Enjoyed the hour with you and your crew!!! The Irish Tracers were spot on!
I'm not a huge fan of links golf courses but this is one that I would absolutely love to play! Also that 4 iron shot on the 15th hole was just pure class! All of those lipouts and edge burners had me on the edge of my seat the whole round! Well done Sir!
One of my favourite courses, all three nines are great. What I love about the championship 18 is that a good shot is always rewarded but you'll almost always be given a chance to recover from an errant ball (unless you hit it off the planet!), unlike so many other similar stature links courses which are far too penal offline. Another great video!
This Irish tracer is gorgeous! As is the golf course obviously. Had the pleasure of playing the neighbourly The Island GC, the European and Seapoint. I love the Links! Sadly landlocked here in Austria 🙂
I don't usually comment on RUclips videos but man oh man! What a wonderful production by Team Peter Finch. The camera work, music, editing and of course the golf and talk from Mr. Peter Finch was absolutely top class. This course is bloody gorgeous, and through the video I seemingly felt every emotion that Peter went through, including the back pain 😃. You guys are doing brilliant work and I look forward to every new video!
Great video Peter. Having played nearly all the great links whilst Portmarnock lots of times, the reason it is right up there is that the course is very fair to play but difficult to score upon. PS. Peter: a very good golf shot is NOT disturbed by the wind.
That 4 iron into the 15th was one of the best flighted pure irons I have seen in a long time. Sublime, we will ignore the putt of course😅. Great play with a dodgy back mate. 🤘🖤
A most enjoyable video. Played very nicely and just no luck on the greens. Give me Peter Finch any day. A nice man. No BS talk or other laddish nonsense so common with others on RUclips. I have played Portmarnock many times over the years and it certainly looks in gorgeous condition and a great test of golf. Well done! Looking forward to the next one.
You played a great round mate. In that wind off the back tees that course is a beast. Will be hosting the open in the comings years. Its a proper proper test

Fantastic video as usual, Pete & Co! Golf is truly such a crazy game of mere inches. If those putts just start lipping in or moving a little bit in your favor, that's the difference in shooting one or two under, and four or five over. It's so tough to play in 30+ mph gusty winds. It truly does affect everything from tee to putting on the green, and often a lot more than people realize.
Great to see u back in Ireland Pete on one of the best golf courses in Europe if not the world. Great video Pete - I can see where Greg Ramsay got the inspiration to convince Richard Sattler to build Barnbougle Dunes in Tasmania, my introduction to links golf.I well understand the emotional rollercoaster as the scenery distracts you from the golf task at hand!
I'm only 3 holes in, but the swing looks good. The shoulder plane is perfect, just collecting the ball off the tee and turf. When you try to hit hard you slightly come over it. Every putt looked like it had a chance to go in. Always love the videos Pete!
I had the pleasure of playing this course on a great vacation to Ireland. The scenery was incredible, and so was the wind. It ate me up, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I literally feel your pain, I suffer heavily with a bad back, I played yesterday and hit 1 good drive on the front nine, I had no ability to turn, I topped it, hooked it and sliced it and just couldn't get it into the air. I almost walked off after 9. I reset, put the woods away and went 6 off the tee (now thinking I need maybe a 4/5 or driving iron in my armoury for those days when the back is particularly bad like yesterday. The 9's were like night and day with a 54 (very bad for me) on the front 9 and a 39 (very very good) on the back 9. I also had a day where my new PXG brandon putter shaved the hole pretty much every hole and I had a par fest on the back 9. Sadly, the back as usual has put me out of action for a week or two, the downside of a worn out body and getting old.
Pete, well played in those conditions, never take that Driver out of the bag, amazing consistency with the big stick. You should be chuffed with your round. Look out open qualies.

Epic content and a good round considering its your first visit, just a fair few putts missing by smidge to the right and I'm presuming no practice round either... i'd take that score any day 😃
Peter - don't be too hard on yourself. A couple of those putts went sideways on the last couple of rolls (especially that par putt on 9 - looked in all the way and then nicked a blade of grass and went left) and you hit the ball super clean. I'd just go back and look at those couple of approach shots you hooked and see if you can work out why. Apart from that a couple of three putts on a very difficult day and the ball just didn't roll your way.
