Basically Ted was meant to be with Robin she was always his true love. Tracy, Ted’s wife went with her true love Max who passed away. Tracy was meant to be with Ted to give him his two children he could not have with Robin (since Robin can’t have kids and didn’t want any) and share happiness and love on earth with Ted. Once I saw it that way it all made sense.
