I can only second the expressions of praise and thanks of others, GustavAdolphusRex, for your postings of these uniquely French baroque organs, the national treasures of France and gems to the organ lovers of the world.
Agreed Giovanni. These postings on this magnificent instrument leave me in awe!! I offer humble appreciation and praise to the composer, the organ builder, the performing organist and many thanks to GustavAdolphusRex for finding and posting these stunning performances. Best Regards, Roy
What I get from this music is that Jesus' gentle words as he preached the beatitudes from the mount were heard by the people, but then their meaning, with power and authority, restate the themes and burst through to peoples' consciousness. These words have lived ever since and will live forever, because each beatitude is a blessing on those who suffer, mourn, humble themselves, and serve. The triumphal phase of this music, when the bass pipes come in to reinforce the gentle themes, are a musical version of how the downtrodden and humble now will one day be exalted. Beautiful stuff. Just beautiful. Here are the eight beatitudes from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount:"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
+Jeff Cox Piroye named many of his compositions in this manner: La Béatitude, La Paix, L'Allégresse, L'Immortelle, La Brillante, La Royal. For example La Béatitude is best translated as "the bliss" as a general concept. So it has nothing to do with Jesus nor the bible. Of course, you are entitled to get what you want from the music, but I get something entirely different.
Whenever I contemplate this portion of scripture I invariably find myself pondering how far the church itself did and still does deviat from these simple, unambiguous gospel passages.
Since I play this piece for a long time, this interpretation does not exactly follow the "official" sheet. BTW, it is by very very far the best interpretation I have ever heard for this one, even Isoir sounds too "robotic" following the sheet. Very good job t the organist here, who is... ?

once you hear this one time, you cannot stop playing it again and again
28 seconds into the recording blows you away.
A great organ....it is truly a national treasure!

+blomman43 Yes, that's just what I got. Brilliant piece of music, however it touches you.
I wonder what you would have got from the piece without knowing the title?
Whenever I contemplate this portion of scripture I invariably find myself pondering how far the church itself did and still does deviat from these simple, unambiguous gospel passages.
I prayed for a picardy third so much at the end of this glorious "grand jeu"...

Stupendi questi brani di Charles Piroye! Su che organo sono stati eseguiti??
wonderful Interpretation. But: The Organist is Pierre Bardon. Which organ?
The organ is the one you can see in the picture: the magnificent Isnard orgue of the basilique Saint maximin la sainte baume :)
Who is the organist?
pierre bardon
Oui ici Monsieur Pierre Bardon , titulaire des grandes Orgues (/isnard) de la basilique
de St Maximin la sainte Baume (VAR ) France 🇫🇷
