That engine cranked right up. I love the sound of a cold Diesel engine starting. It really tests the engine's design and function against the elements. Those Listers always start right up.
great running Lister. I have a 70's 6/1 that would pull about 3.5 kw 24/7. I lived in Alaska and enjoyed my lister in the F'n sub-div. when the lites went out my old lister started up and kept us warm till the lites came back on........
I used the Gulf of Mexico, offshore oilfield, 3 cylinder coupled to air compressor. First time I saw that hand crank and the size of the engine I thought, OMG.. this will never work. But, the decompression levers made them fairly easy to start.
I remember some lister twin diesels never started well when cold, (listerpetter) used to put a lighted rag in the intake, or in some places i could use a hot air gun on the intake, anyway great brilliant, looking very nice, thanks for putting this on
Reminds me of John Deere’s back before they had 4 and 6 cylinder engines, they had 2 cylinder engines that made a very similar sound as this Lister does.
That one has really good compression. These engines were in use all over the world. They would run all day on a tank of fuel. The only thing wrong, ( in my opinion ) is when they took over and joined up with Petter. But that's another story that somebody else would have more knowledge of.
Hi I've got a crs2 thats got a starter but has a hole in the sheet metal cover for a crank but I don't have one and would like to.The shaft is huge and only has a key way on it,is that what you have on yours? How is it that it doesn't stick on and take your arm off?I love these engines.Caught the bug.
Nice engine, runs sweet. I have an SL2. Does your engine have the cold start cups on top of the inlet manifold, i find putting a bit of oil in them helps cold starting as well as lubricating the top side of the engine.
Great cold start - with snow on engine no less! Runs like a top - great to listen to.
Thanks for sharing this
Amazing as to how far man exceld, from this type of engine to the space shuttle rockets in such a short period of time...

Nice! I do like this model, having repaired one. They're rather loud though!

HELLO, the colour is brunswick green, a fairly standard colour, i use a quick drying enamel . touch dry in minutes.
A lit propane torch does wonders for a diesel with no glow plugs or intake grid heater. I have never! used starting fluid/ Ether on a diesel
Does anyone know if you can come by this particular engine, or similar size and hp in the US / Canada?
