Welcome to Episode 14 of our Eastern USA tour with Amtrak.
This episode covers our trip from Orlando to New York City.
Our Vlog series (expected to run 23 episodes) was filmed during our 47-day Autumn 2020 train holiday, touring Chicago, Washington, D.C., Williamsburg, VA, Orlando, New York City, Boston, Cooperstown, Niagara Falls & La Plata, MO. Our transportation included 13 Amtrak train segments, a few cities’ local metro trains & 2 cars.
Each episode in our series will premiere on Saturdays- at 10.00 Pacific/13.00 Eastern/18.00 Britain.

Thank you for watching!
What a nice and relaxing ride up to NYC! I would be lost on those trains. The hallways all look the same. Lol I appreciate your taking the time to show us around. I can't wait to see more about your hotel! Love that view!
Thank you, Wanda! Glad you enjoyed. The hotel tour (in Ep 15) is basically the outside, lobby & most important- basement floor (it has a TON of memorabilia on display).
@@InnocentsAbroad Awesome! I can't wait!
Love that the music changes relevant to each state you pass.
Thank you, Janet! Appreciate you watching and making comments 🙂
I love the honky tonk music really fits your trip! Thanks for the train tour, the corridors seem narrow on this train, but love the large windows for viewing though! 🙂
Thank you, Roland! Overall, the Western “superliners“ are my favorite because they have a little bit more breathing room, but at least the viewliners have better overhead storage! As ever, thanks for support support by watching and commenting 🙂
oh that was so fun, the train looked so nice, but that room oh my was it small. That Hotel room oh my GOSH!!!!!!!! I've never seen a room with a balcony like that before, amazing balls!!!!!!!!!
Hi Nick, thanks so much for watching! The room was tiny but can you imagine being in a smaller ‘roomette’? At least we got to stretch out in this one. That hotel room was really nice- I hope you like next weeks episode, where we tour the basement in detail, it’s got a lot of history to it.
Thanks for taking us on another journey, and wine and brownies sound perfect for dinner lol! Another great episode. 😁
😝 thank you, very much!
Thanks for doing this video. I really enjoyed this. The Silver Star stops at my hometown of Cary, NC, so it was nice to see this.
NC, you are most welcome!
As we mostly cruise, it was a nice bit of variety to go on so much Amtrak. We quite love being on the rails, as well.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching, and taking time to leave a comment 🙂🙂
Brilliant. I’m loving this series, it definitely feels like we’re travelling along with you. Gradually catching up with your weekly releases 😀
Thank you, Peter! Glad you enjoyed it!
Now- if we could all get back to cruising!
Thanks for taking us along again for another beautiful ride up from Orlando to New York!
It is honestly beautiful to experience all the scenery and great job capturing it Bob!
Interesting to see the configuration of this room vs the other rooms on the Southwest Chef. Much more quaint on the Silver Star.
Scott and I were very surprised that the train station in Orlando was smaller than some of the other stations during your travels.
We’re excited to see your time in New York and especially The New Yorker. Cannot wait to see the hotel tour. It looks absolutely beautiful and that view... omg!! I could spend hours just experiencing that! (That terrace was huge)
Thanks for taking us along and as usual can’t wait for next week’s episode!
Thank you, guys for watching and such an extensive commentary. I really appreciate the interest :)
The Orlando Station is rather small, and in spite of its heritage, really needs to be spruced up a bit. Such a cool little station in need of interior tlc.
NYC is amazeballz. Can't wait to show you guys next week :)
What a great tour of the train, wow, what a tight fit with the bed down. It’s so cool seeing the different stations and the countryside, thanks for taking us a long.
You’re very welcome, Derick & Gregg- Glad you guys enjoyed it. Yes indeed it’s a bit of a tight fit getting through the 🛌
Thank you for yet another awesome, informative video. I loved seeing the towns you went through on your way to NYC.
I can't wait for the next video. The view from your balcony was stunning, I would have to be dragged away from it!
Thanks, Natalie. It was very much a scenic episode. I just finished episode 16 editing yesterday. I know someone who will like three minutes and 40 seconds of aquarium- including turtles 🐢 🙂
@@InnocentsAbroad Awesome! We will sit and watch it as a family
Great flavor of the trip - felt like was on-board. Looking forward to your stops in The City!
Thank you, Harry! Appreciate the feedback :)
Looks like so much fun I can’t wait to get myself back on there
Thank you, WWE Guy. Amtrak really is a wonderful way to see this country. Thank you for watching (There are 29 others episodes on our channel).
Great video. Love the scenery from Orlando to new york. The looks amazing at night.
Ps. That twilight period at sunset is called the "golden hour". The best period to take photos of the sunset
Golden Hour; Twighlighty.... lol
Thank you, Arthur for watching. This route really did provide good scenery- until one looked at New Jersey 😅 NYC is just nuts, but fun. TY!
I also recommend one time when you are in sleeping accommodations or has a metropolitan pass try to use the shower at the metropolitan lounge in Chicago that is the only lounge that has showers that I know off.
Hi Chris. We used the Met lounge (I thought it was in one of our episodes, I think Ep 4 shows us in the lounge coming out of CHI) a few times. I have used the shower (good suggestion, though).
Between this series (there are 23 eps in the entire series), 'Northern USA' and 'Western USA', we went on prob 40 segments, and had a full br on each train that had one.
I complete agree with your suggestion of using the MET Lounge shower -it's great, even when in a BR that had one.
Thanks for watching, and taking time to comment!
very nice hotel and train ride love it ty for sharing
Thank you!
Wow... now I’m curious about that train... it’s been probably 15-20 years since I’ve road an Amtrak.
It’s a really nice one to get up and down the eastern seaboard. We’re about to start another train trip here in a couple weeks, mostly western half the United States. Thank you so much for the support in watching!
I was wondering, how was the food? we are going from coast to coast this summer and taking the train out of WAS but we will be in a superliner roomette.
Hi Maurice, ty for watching/commenting 🙂
The food was actually pretty good (see our Ep. 1/2 in this series for a better look at it and the dining service commentary). It’s not made fresh, but is reheated onboard.
Your roomette will give you meals included.
What is your favorite meal on flexible dinning. Also if you had traditional dinning on Amtrak what meal is your favorite there.
Hi Chris. The Andoulie sausage was my fav on Amtrak. I don't understand flexible - there were meal hours on the train,, break fast, lunch & dinner - and one just showed up during those times. We had a bedroom (if the train had one) on each segment of this 45-day 'Eastern USA' journey, and the dining policy was consistant as described above.
Hey, great vid....is there an observation car on the Silver Star?
Thank you, Tommy! No sir there is not, only found on bi-level Superliner cars.
Very nearly every train east of Chicago is a Viewliner, single level.
One of them with observation cars is the sunset limited
@@BNSF4749Railfan True, but also of every Superliner Car except (at time of recording) the Texas Eagle CHI-SAS.
Also on the empire builder the section between Spokane to Seattle has no observation car (this train splits up in Spokane and observation cars is in the Portland segment and dinning car for sleeper passengers [mostly] is on the Seattle segment
Amtrak's reclining seat leg-rest coaches have far more leg room than classic ACL, SAL, and SCL streamliners.
Don’t understand your acronyms, Sam.
@@InnocentsAbroad Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and Seaboard Air Line Railroad merged to become Seaboard Coast Line in 1967. Those classic railroads ran the most popular and well maintained trains in the country til Amtrak took over U. S. intercity passenger service in the U.S. in 1971. Santa Fe also provided superior service to The End.
