He debuted at atlas at 17 and was accidentally called to the national team because there was 2 Rafa Márquez and the coach was impressed and he debuted at 17 for Mexico also
Rafa Márquez achievements: 1x confederations cup 2x gold cups 2x champions league 1x club World Cup 4x la liga 1x ligue 1 1x super cup 3x Spanish cup 1x French league cup 1x apertura and clausura bi campeón with Leon
Rafa marquez is for sure one of the best cb in mexican history he retired in atlas where he started and went to coach barcelona B team and now is in talks to becoming assistant manager for the mexican national team
Retired but coaching Barcelona B for 5 years… and recently just took the asst position for Mexican National team and will be head coach after the 2026 WC cycle
There's a lot to enjoy about Márquez. Confident and calm, but fierce. I wish there were more of his playing style, he could set very accurate 40 meter passes, either that or set the ball to a teammate half a second after recovering it, you know, break the attack and pass it to Busquets or Xavi, or Yaya, and a few seconds later the ball was on the feet of Ronaldinho or Messi or Iniesta... he was so decent at starting attacks that at some point before Busquets breakthrough he would play that position; later, the Mexican team start copying that scheme and use him as defensive midfielder, and he would perform the same, just 20 meters further from his goal, and as I said I wish you could see him pass, because that was absolute class, you can tell by his free kicks.
He is retired, maybe 3 or 4 years ago. He was coaching Barcelona B in third tier football, in his 2 years he got to a semifnal, and most recently lost a final against Cordoba, who got promoted. Barca was always clear that they wanted him to prepare players for the first team despite the results on the tournaments, but still the results came along his good job, so he was set to be staying at Barca waiting for his time to coach the first team and he would have if Hansi Flick didn't accept the task. Now, Javier Aguirre who is the new Mexican National team coach (third time), asked him to join as an assistant and the deal he signed is to be assistant until 26 World Cup, and be head coach 2026 - 2030, Thats the update on Márquez as of this week.
In my opinion the greatest Mexican player ever, UCL Champion, Confederations Cup Champion, Captain in 5 World Cups, and my personal favorite Bicampeón with Club León!! 🇲🇽🐐
Marquez coached Barca Athetic last season and lost in the promotion final got renewed. But now got called to be Mexico's assistant coach to later become coach after the 2026 WC
I wanna say with Marquez and Aguirre in the National team things are gonna change but honestly the main people on top know we’re gonna fall for them. It might be positive for the National team (only winning gold cup maybe Nations league) and when it comes to not losing the fan base but $$. But we won’t see younger players in the squad we might even see older players come back and liga Mx keeping the same rules that don’t help the youngsters debuting or going to Europe.
Can u react to Jesus “tecatito” corona possibly one of the best skillful mexican players up there with giovani dos santos , possibly could’ve been one of the greatest if it wasnt for injury
Rafa Márquez was the best defensive player, and his carrier can be compared with Hugo Sánchez, how ever Hugo is the best, Rafa is below in a second place Mexico player!!
Who ever said this is the best Mexican player ever started watching futbol in 2000 Don't get me wrong this guy was good but wasn't even the best defender ever el emperador Claudio Suarez was better take a lucky guess who groomed Rafael in the national team

Also you should react to Gignac’s highlights.

Thank you for this info brother 🙏
He was whack. Overrated for sure. If you really think about it, only Mexicans think he was good.
Best Mexican player after Hugo Sanchez 🔥
He participated at 5 world cups same as Ochoa but Ochoa didn’t play his first 2
Retired but coaching Barcelona B for 5 years… and recently just took the asst position for Mexican National team and will be head coach after the 2026 WC cycle

My favorite player is Maldini, Márquez is second. Shame they didnt show his long passes, elite level.
He had a saying that either the ball or the man is getting past me but not both 🤯⚽️
Nobody came out playing like Rafa Marquez 🇲🇽🔥 #4
If I remember right, he was one of the first players to keep Messis ego in check early on.
¿Y a él quien lo contenía? Además, Messi nunca pecó de ego, hay muchos años en video que lo demuestran
His long passes were world class too, that's what this video is missing

1. Hugo Sanchez
2. Rafa Marquez
3. Javier Hernandez (debatable)
Word for word
Carlos Vela. Best playmaker that Mexico had, not just a casagoles
You should react to Saturino Cardozo. My dad's most feared player. He's the best extranjero to play in the Liga MX.
The Prince of Monaco
Rafa once said, the ball or the player may get through but not both.
Can u react to
Jesus “tecatito” corona possibly one of the best skillful mexican players up there with giovani dos santos , possibly could’ve been one of the greatest if it wasnt for injury
Hugo Sanchez and Rafael Marquez are the best Mexican players.
Yeah, from the atlas cantera
Bro, the long passes that he used for scoring plays were missing.
He is RETIRED now,
He has just been hired to assist and direct the MEXICAN NATIONAL TEAM as of ~7/15/2024

Who ever said this is the best Mexican player ever started watching futbol in 2000 Don't get me wrong this guy was good but wasn't even the best defender ever el emperador Claudio Suarez was better take a lucky guess who groomed Rafael in the national team
The absolute worst signing in the history of MLS.
