Thanks for such a complete rundown of your setup. I find your videos like this helpful because I can see how the different features/plugins of obsidian can be used in concert, and it is inspiring for my own creations.
Excellent! Because I am both a dumb and lazy soul, I hadn't figured out how to use the canvas group as a trigger to change the metadata so far. But dear Danny you are there, always saving my back! That canvas group set up in the Metadata Menu plugin is really highly potent when it comes to managing the metadata all of it from the the canvas alone. When I first visited your channel (I remember it... I visited for the Habit tracker video recommended by RUclips), I found the Metadata Menu very complex and boring. But when I started on your canvas-related stuff in other videos, it dawned on me how powerful and "set it once and use it forever" type this plugin is. I also admire your omniscience in many varied fields which seem unrelated at first, but when observed keenly they show the direction and pattern of your thinking. In short, I have become a great fan of you and your work here on this channel. Thanks a lot for everything. Keep it up God bless you! 😍💝💖💝
Amazing wealth of detail in this tutuorial - epic work! Had no idea you could work with canvas and groups in such a way… so powerful. Thanks for this - much appreciated!
good video. the only thing i want to say is that it is possible that the imported data is silently breaking the yaml parsing. it might not be the case most of the time but it is something to look out for. if it happens it should be fixable by encasing the whole value with " " (if they aren't already inside the value).

One question Danny, now a days do you see a great difference between the status "queued" and "waiting"? What are the main differences? Thanks for the video, I am re-watching because I think the idea is very powerful.
I have condensed this to traditional statuses... to be read, reading, read, did not finish.

@@DannyHatcherTech that's what I was going to tell you: I use the tags ToDo (to be read), InProgress (reading), Completed (readed). In some cases (series and movies) I use a #waiting for that artworks that are not completed but I can't complete (a series that is not finished until some years, etc). Thanks for answering.
I like what you did for creating a book library. I tried to get the Metadata Menu working, but wasn't successful. I made the two changes in the setting that you mentioned in the plugin settings. Then I exit out of Obsidian, then back in. I go to the file in the left sidebar, but do not see the icon where I can make the changes to FileClasses. I go back into the plugin settings, and the changes reverted back to original. Saw a suggestion that installing Supercharged Links might fix the issue, it didn't. Not certain for the cause of the issue. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Hi is it possible to add links I use readwise app for reading and all my highlights and comments are synched to my obsidian vault. lets say i am reading Deep Work by cal and i have some highlights and i added the book using the book search plugin so how can i make the title of the book a link when it automatically brings the name
I do it with Zotero with highlight links. There is a kindle plugin that does something similar. As someone that doesn't use Readwise I am not sure unfortuantely but I imagine someone will have done it.
I have to question it: is zotero (mybe less visualization) more effective and concise - also i wounder how much i need to querying in obsidian - the query in zotero is restricted? **Of course related to books**
I found Zotero great, and still use it for other sources. Visualization, varied query results shown at the same time, and ease of capture made Obsidian a better choice for me.
How do you feel about zotero vs raindrop? Have you seen the heatmap habit tracker? It's a seemingly rewarding but painful plugin that would be great to have a guide for. thanks for the vid
I have seen it but dont see a use case yet 🤷♂️ I am familiar with raindrop but think Zotero has all its features and more. Having said that, I am not experienced with raindrop so could be missing something.
Hey Danny, What a great Tutorial! I decided to make a learning Obsidian Vault where I can replicate all the steps you do in your videos. This way I will learn how it all works and then I can play with how I want it to be in my personal vault. Keep up the good work :)
Hi Danny! Could you please make a review of anytype when you have some free time? Curious to know what you think. From what I understand, it's like an extramarital child of Notion and Obsidian (much of the interface is similar to Notion, but it's also local making it fast, and there are other features from Obsidian here and there)
Thank you so much for your video! They all inspire me a lot to create my own Obisidian environment! I'm currently using the AnuPpuccin theme and not the Minimal Theme. Could you add the CSS code for the cards?
@@DannyHatcherTech I made the field class Book instead of book 🤣 that's why the icon didn't pop up 🙈

I have a bug (in the GitHub page someone advised for the issue before) where the plugin book search don't fill the metadata en the YAML fields (because of the issues with the option menu).
I regret watching this video... I think it would be better if you actually describe what pain you are solving before you show implementation details. Since after watching I still don't understand what pain any of this would solve for me (since I think my way is better and obviously simpler). I know it's not very positive feedback but welcome to real life.
Thanks for the feedback! Positive/negative is up to interpretation, feedback is still feedback. This video wasn't 'solving a pain point' it was showing how I do something. I wouldn't want someone to copy any of my setup or work because it likely won't work for them. The intention was to show you opportunities. You making the decision to use or not use the opportunities is the point of exposure, right?

Wow, this is so awesome. Coming from the text editor Vim, I fall in love with Obsidian every video you post!! Keep it going man
Great job! I really appreciate your helpful advice. Your strategies and explanations were exceptionally thorough and helpful.

Thanks.

I don't have the option to update with groups on canvas as shown at 16:27. Do I need to do something specific to fix this?

Yes, you can add the css snippet into any vault and it will work as long as the theme doesn't conflict with it.
@@DannyHatcherTech where is the css snippet at i dont see it
For whatever reason If I add the Class Icon Book. It doesn't show above the file where I can click an add meta data through the Meta Data Menu Plugin
hmm, It should work just like any other icon.
