I agree that this is not what I expected with the title saying restoration. I think it was a great project especially considering that you are used to working with metal rather than wood. I myself would propably have tried to replace only the broken board because otherwise the box seems to be intact. I think that with some experimenting you might have found a way to wear the new board down to look somewhat like the old ones. That way you could have kept the aged look of the box. But obviously that was not the look you were going for. I like the fact that you still left the old board to the inside of the box.
I loved that you kept the old board inside so someone could see the original if they looked at it. Probably wasn't valuable, but it's was cool that it's still there even if it's now hidden
Vysledok som videl nazivo. Je uplne jedno ako si to spravil lebo si to spravil paradne. Moj stary otec by bol na teba pysny, on ten sach kedysi spravil. I saw the result. It doesn't matter how you made it because it's fabulous. My grandpa, as the maker of the original would be proud of you. Well done Marek
I agree this was not a restoration as much as a rebuild. MY problem would be finding the Luxol Lodni Lak (Luxol Boat Varnish) you used - it seemed to work really well, but here in the USA it's not something I've seen on the shelf.
Nice thing to do. Making a chessboard using pieces from your wife's great grandfathers set, keeping the sentiment within it. Ignore the haters who didn't read the description box. Enjoyed that video a lot. Subbed !
Lots of hate in here.. Read the description box guys. Kept the sentiment of the original intact but made something new to support it. Looks good to me.
Trillions like and best comment for you because you are best on Earth and follower respect you,we need videos in Real 120fps or 240fps 4K,8K and Sound in FullHD Surrounded 3D
i had identical chess set but was destroyed in fire when plasma tv flamed, chessboard was under tv.the chess pieces were stored in separate bags, chessboard and white set was burned, only dark set survived with minimal damage, where can buy identical chessboard and chess pieces?
I liked the old one better , it had a soul and was just exquisite. You should have just made a new one and keep the other one as such . This was not a restoration , you basically destroyed the old one and tunred it into an Ikea piece . The old one was actually quite valuable on the market , but you ruined it , and now it is worth nothing .
It's not a restoration. It's a remake :/ Btw, I'm here cuz I'm looking for the way to just restore pieces... and I'm wondering about the finish. I have an old soviet set... I think it's covered in shellac but buying it in two variat. (light and black) would be an iffy investment without a research...
You have skills in playing with wood and tools - nice to see something remade with old scraps - but you have amateur knowledge about chess - any good chessboard has coordinates (A-H 1-8) and fields A1 and H8 are black, so A8 and H1 should be white, on new board squares have wrong sequence see at 7:02, now you have to play sideways to have correct order - and If you think that is meaningless I tell you think again (give you a hint: look on figures, they are mirrored diagonally and across line of break on board, except king and queen which are mirrored only by line of break). Setting figures that way...you mirrored the game and by that you did alter some statistics, especially for someone who uses colours of fields in a game play - like I do. :)
Why are you cutting this wood..... OMG you are not restorimg the old one... you are going to make a new board... I am out of here. And you get a dislike for wrong video title.

Although this comment is three years too late, great to see you hear.

Good work. You restored an old historical chessboard and now your wife can play chess again. Keep up the good work.
Restore my life please.
We want a time machine
People really ought to read description boxes more. This was nicely done, Marek. Love that the sentiment's still there. Great work!
Great Work guys!💐
Unique pieces too!
Awesome job! And I love that you worked with your wife! Man, this was great!
Thanks :D
6:00 dog is like "you fucking done with this thing yet?!" turn off that damned sander!""

Since when scrapping is restoring? You basically made a new one.
ISiupick it says remake in the title
I was thinking the same thing, however, before voicing my thoughts I went back and reread the title and read the description.
That’s super neat. It’s like a chess-board locket.

That table saw needs a zero clearance around the blade! Aah--and that jointer--you've got some scary tools!!
Bro you f****** cool you know little bit of everything. When I grow up I want to be like you
Superb.... I've always been a fan of your work... regards from Asia. 👍🏻

its a beautiful restoration that brings life back to a decaying piece of board game histroy
If it isn't a restoration, then call it what it really is. To mistitle something like this is just plain ignorant

Nice
thanks :)
Looks great, nice work, better than anything I could do. but that's pretty much a new one with some reused parts.
i had identical chess set but was destroyed in fire when plasma tv flamed, chessboard was under tv.the chess pieces were stored in separate bags, chessboard and white set was burned, only dark set survived with minimal damage, where can buy identical chessboard and chess pieces?

This is not re make. This is building new
Wow great job!
This reminds me of Ship of Theseus paradox.
Beautiful 👍🏼
Cool video!
Forget the results whatever it is. But one must see his great effort to fulfill his wife's demand.
Grate job! Could you please make a sword??
Great work!
You basically made a new one...
HEY THATS PRETTY GOOD
ASMR del bueno
i wouldve love to see a reaction video of your father-in-law
man now I really want to learn woodworking as well..but I'm very weak.
What was the paint you were applying?
It's not a restoration. It's a remake :/

This isn't a restoration... If it isn't a restoration, then don't call it a restoration... Good job on the board though
Better get a new board, there was no restoration
Stay away from "restoring" masterpieces .
すげえ
well.. the veneering was pretty lame
Of course they set the board wrong.
this is recycle not restore...
jajajaja excel
Not going to lie
I.didnt like it
sorry for the dislike

I know you can find solutions to this problem in the Woodprix plans.
すげえ笑

Why are you cutting this wood..... OMG you are not restorimg the old one... you are going to make a new board... I am out of here. And you get a dislike for wrong video title.
Read the title, it's a *remake* not a *restore* , there's a difference
Boi 👏
