Great video, thank you!! It was difficult to find out for sure whether or not the unit was serviceable. I want to clean out the tank and test the element but couldn’t figure out if it would damage the unit by opening it up. Now I can proceed. 🎉
I have had to replace my Insinkerator instant hot 4 times in 4 years. Insinkerator says my water is not compatible. But my Mom lives in same city on the city water and has never had a problem. What can I do?
I suggest getting your water tested to figure out if it has elements like high hardness, iron or chlorine that could cause the heater to corrode or foul prematurely. If this is the case, then consider installing a water treatment system. I have high water hardness about 30 grains/gal, so I installed a water softener and can get about 3-6 years life from my heater without a problem.
I have a question. If you can answer it, I would appreciate the help. It's more a plumbing question, but maybe you can help. I am getting ready to replace my old tank. In doing so, I noticed that only the hot water was being filtered and the cold was plumbed seperately to the cold water inlet. So, I would like to replumb things so both lines are filtered. In your video, it looks like there is a Y connecter after the filter where the line connects to the 1/4" copper. In the video, it looks like both your hot and cold lines are connect to the Y. On my Y connector, there is a 1/4" copper going to the hot and the other hole is plugged. I have yet to actually disconnect the fittings under my sink and I was wondering if I would be able to remove the plug and insert my cold line in the hole. Did you experience this? Any advice? Thanks in advance for the help.
yes. My cold water feed line goes first to the filter and then wyes into two lines up to the hot/cold valves in the dispenser faucet, so both the hot and cold water is filtered. The plug in the wye is there for models that only dispense hot water. If you have both cold and hot levers on your dispenser valve, then after shutting off the water, you should remove the plug by pushing down the locking ring on the wye fitting to release the plug, then insert the other copper line from the dispenser and you are good to go.
Good video. Do you have a solution to my problem. When hot water is tapped off, it spits out with cold water from the vent hose. Should the fault be found in the valve in the plastic reservoir.?
@@bobdepot6620 My tank is a newer model with electronic adjustment and red diodes. I have had it apart and descaled the valve in the reservoir. However, this did not help. Cold water inlet pipe seems partially blocked. Possibly there is a check valve in it. I have tried decalcifying this and blowing the inlet pipe through with compressed air. It has helped a little, but water still comes out of the spigot to the reservoir.
@@kenhendk It may be that the valve in the dispenser faucet is leaking. There is a check valve in the valve on the hot line as well that could be stuck open. I would check it out.
Excellent diagnosis. I love our "Instant Hot" but the build quality means it's best to have a spare to swap out upon failure or when the existing unit needs a de-scaling. I have a Rancilio espresso maker which needs annual descaling anyway, so I use the wand and pump to fill the removed "Instant hot" with hot de-scaler water, let it sit for 30 minutes, rinse, blow it out with compressed air. I prefer not to break the seals of the heating element or pop the top, but if these seals are failing anyway and the unit is leaking, then may as well open the thing up for cleaning and inspection, and use gasket sealer. Love this unit- I like to pre-fill a coffee mug with the hot water, forcing an "on" state, thereby having it produce the hottest water possible for tea or a French Press coffee, etc.
Im an appliance tech. I replaced one of these under warranty today and it was 3 months old. I took it apart just now and the heating element was corroded and rusted. I wish I could post pics here. They were feeding with ro water but they also have a water softener. Could the residual salt that gets through be rusting the element? The element was heating just not hot enough.
Is there a way to internally adjust the thermostat??? I have a brand new unit and with the dial cranked to full hot it's only reaching about 170 degrees. Hot enough for tea, but not coffee (which is why I bought it!)... Any advice?
@@seansaxton8307 Did you find a solution? Mine is also only getting up to about 175 degrees. And Insinkerator covered a new unit which was installed and I'm getting the same thing! About 175 degrees. Temp turned all the way up! My electric water kettle gets up to 195 for my french press- hmmm?

Hi, Is there a pump inside? Or do I need to add it to an existing water flow--LIke I want to put it in a camper, and don't know if I also need to purchase a separate water pump (because its not an in home situation) or there's a pump built in this an I just need to give it a water source. Thanks! Hope you can understand my question, it may be confusing-because I'm confused and I have no Idea what I'm doing so I explain it confusingly -lol.. But I'm going to figure it out!! - Thanks!!
Hi - there is no pump In this system. The heater and faucet relay on the water pressure from the water supply that you provide to it, in your case from your camper water supply system.
Thanks for a very interesting expose. My gasket has disintegrated and spares are not available. I did a similar repair replacement about 6 years ago, using an automotive exhaust silicone sealer to build up a gasket. I had to use two coats of the silicone but it has worked effectively for a good time, until now. I intend repeating this fix if I can gauge out the old silicone but I wondered if you have come across any other solution? I haven't looked at the heating element yet, but I expect that there is a leak as the unit fuses my electricity when switched back on. Are there replacements for these elements? I look forward to receiving your reply. Thanks, Tony.
Hi Tony - You could try "form a gasket" from an auto supply store or buy a sheet of high temp gasket material and cut your own gasket. I could not find any parts available for this unit. The tripping of the breaker sounds like a shorted heater element. You can buy a new tank with all its components from Insinkerator for about $250

No internal adjustment. If the temp knob is all the way up and you are still not getting near 200 F, this is a common symptom for a failing heater element, which could be replaced, but Insinkerator doesn’t offer parts for their HTW units. How old is the unit? If it is within 2 years, Insinkerator will send you a new unit.
I had an Everhot water dispenser for 14 years and it finally gave out. My plumber brought over an Incinerator hot water dispenser in late Jan 2024. It worked fine until yesterday. Stopped heating the water. I paid my plumber $450 back in January but he didn’t give me a receipt. So you say Incinerator will replace unit if it’s less than 2 years old. Do I need a receipt?
Thanks but your USA price landed here exceeds the Australian dollar price so I have taken your advice and bought a new one, but here in Australia, where I also have the benefit of Australian Consumer laws and the local 2 year guarantee. Thanks for your help. Very interesting and constructive.
Nice work. Two of mine have failed due to short circuiting from water leaking from the top onto the switch, causing the switch spindle to disintegrate. Very poor design, and for AUD 1700, unacceptable. The most expensive kettle on the planet.

Sounds like the hot water faucet valve is leaking. This is the only path for the hot water to get to the spout .
Cant get the two halves separated to get at the gasket...?
It can be stuck. Make sure all screws are removed. Try a putty knife to open the seam.

I don’t think you need a receipt. Call their customer service, they will use the S/N to check the unit’s age and verify it is under warranty.
If it’s that recent, you should follow up with your plumber and ask for a receipt. IF the mfg doesn’t freely offer to replace it.
