Hi Marie, the decal struggle is real. That is a lot of work. I can't tell you how many sheets of water slide paper I have wasted. I do use Singer Decals as well but Of course, I am still trying to make my own. (Until I get tired of it. lol ) I am just doing my own machines so I have that freedom. This color choice is gorgeous. And due to her being more of a rough iron, the dragon theme works!!! Thanks for sharing.
I really like your information. The restorations are amazing and inspirational. My goal. The original decals were foil-based, no? That would explain the durability, correct?
Yes, the original decals were silver foil backed, unfortunately you cannot get those anymore. The closest I can get is the singerdecals.com and that is a metallic paint, but it's the closest you can get. Have fun 😊
I feel for you about the dark colours. I have the same issue. I did some research here in NZ. The printer for the opaque inks is upwards of $3000. The plastic decals (t-shirts, mugs etc, commercial printers) also use white plastic. So then you'd still have to cut out intricate shapes. So I asked the lady in Australia if she would print my file for me. She will, but she's building a house right now...Maybe you could negotiate with a decal printer in the USA?
I think that if the white decal paper behaved better I would. The only issue is that you still have to cut out very carefully around it, and since the white decal sheets are really terrible, at least for me, one dragon is going to crack into probably about eight different pieces and trying to get everything lined up and still looking halfway decent is a serious challenge. But maybe that's just me.
It's a triumph of ingenuity! And the purple is glorious 💜
Great colour. Your have so much patience. X
What a cool color... But oh I feel for the headaches you went through.
Excellent color!!! It's a shame that the decals are such a problem with it. The dragons are super cute! 👍

Absolutely stunning! I love how you mention the things that you need to look out for. Very helpful. Can't wait to see the finished machine.
Love it ! Beautiful color and the decals are magical.

You never know 😂
Perhaps I missed something -- why don't you print the dragons on the white decal paper and use that?

I wish you had copied the original design in the original gold. Gold and purple look gorgeous together. Those dragons look silly.
That sounds like a project for you to do! I hope it goes well!
😊😂😂😂😂
