@@senzupop Haha! I just purchased a starter and boosters of the new Argent Saga game and have been looking for sleeves. I'll now be very confidently buying Dragon Shields from now on. No more cheapy Ultra Pros.
@@senzupop I'm a sucker for clean borders and color coordinated looking decks. I never touched Dragon Shields because of the lip and it turned out it was my fault with the way I was sleeving the cards. 🤦♂️
Dragonshields are longer to prevent dust from getting in the sleeve as easy. That’s why most MTG players double sleeve with Dragonshields over any other sleeve.
I am seeing that too. It is really a very good sleeve. I just hope they will have more brighter colors because it will work better for other card games like neon yellow or neon pink.
Katana sleeves and the dragon shield inner sealable sleeves r all i use... Never liked dragpn shield outer sleeves. They arent terrible but never liked the extra space at the top.
The actual reason that Dragonshields have the extra lip is because it prevents dust and particles from getting in them as fast. Thats why most Commander MTG players never really use Ultra Pro, the sleeves get dust so fast. Also not sure if MTG cards are not as thick as Dragon Ball cards but double sleeving is fine. Nice trick is to use your finger to slide the inner sleeve down while the card is in, so the card won't slip out of the inner sleeve while in the Dragonshield. Plus the new Sealable Dragonshield inner sleeves are amazing, covers all the sides so the card won't slip out. I personally like the Katana shuffle more but double sleeving MTG cards in them are really card and it bulges out of the top. I use Katanas for decks that I don't have foils or expensive cards in and Dragonshield for my nicer decks.
If you are having trouble double-sleeving Dragon Shields, one way is to use another card as a backing between the main card and the matte "back" of Dragon Shield. Then, once the cards are in the sleeve, just pull the backing card out
interesting. i will try that. i am using kmc perfect hard and that is usually ok. but man with normal non-side loading sleeves, they are usually a nightmare.
After years of testing, and im playing MTG since 2004., i can only say this: Best inner sleeves: Dragon Shield Perfect Fit Best outer sleeves: Ultimate Guard Katana -> Great fit, great quality, no splits, easy double sleaving Best looks sleeves: Ultra-Pro Eclipse -> Nothing can compare to them - thin, light, always black inner side, no matter what the outer color. Only problem - they are tight - double sleeving is a pain in the ass - but once used a bit, double sleaving is great!
5:45 I would like to point out that you are supposed to double sleeve dragonshields by inserting the card a 3rd of the way, then slip you finger inside the sleeve and push the card in with friction the rest of the way.
I actually wrote to Dragon Shield and asked them to create a neon bright color series of Dragon Shield. Hopefully they will think about it. I think those are better for anime card games.
Katana are better to shuffle but they slide easily which sucks when you have a 100 card deck as it wont stay in place. Dragon shield still are nice to shuffle but not quite as nice as katana. Dragon shields are easier to double sleeve as well. While the video suggests otherwise the technique used is wrong. Dragon shield also have been having quality control issues as of late its really hit or miss you eather get a pack thats built like a tank or splits after a couple games. Also the longer edges bend quicker if you double sleeve this mitigates the speed of the bending. Another positive is that they stick to eachother more than katanas. They dont slide off eachother this causes more scratches however its kinda worth it All in all katana sleeves are more consistent In quality, roughly the same toughness as dragon shield, the shuffle is nicer but that slipperyness can really get in the way especially in commander games. While i prefer the quality of katana more i just cannot get past the slipperyness of katana its brutal commander you have 99 card libraries and they constantly spill all over.
That interesting. I have 3 decks in Katana’s and it’s almost impossible to get the dragonshield sealable inner sleeves in them. I use my Katana’s for my cheaper decks since I can’t double sleeve them, but I love the shuffle feel.
Well I highly agree with you, my sleeves are coming to my house mail I hope to order more of these in the future thanks for showing me this you really helped me a lot now! 🙂👍
There's also clear dragonshield sleeves for your two sided avatar cards. Also you have to use the same brand of inner sleeves, then again this is probably an old video
I am not a fan of side loading inner sleeves as they expose 1 large side of the card. Normal inner sleeve open on the top with a little gap. Prefer those.
I find that my katanas get nicked like crazy... it actually drives me nuts. idk what does it my shuffling or what i have no clue. I'm dont really think I shuffle aggressively.
yo kyle, does it happen to other sleeves or only katanas? if it does to other sleeves, then it has to do with your shuffling. Personally, i have transition to do the board distribution type of shuffling. That's the most random and sleeve friendly way to shuffle in my opinion.
@@senzupop I haven't noticed it with any other kind of sleeve nearly as much. maybe once in a blue moon. but katanas I find like 10 marked sleeves after every draft.
These are exactly the two sleeves I've been considering. I have been a huge dragon shield fan. But I recently discovered katana and wanted to try a set. I think for non tornament play and customization I will use dragon shield. And then has a set of katana sleeves specifically for a tournament. Also... I have a couple of nitpicks about dragon shield. Why would you make a box that only holds 60+ cards when you have 100 sleeves? Why are the lighter colors more transparent? Top and bottom cuts are evenly level but I've noticed inconsistencies on the edge cuts. Minor gripes. Other than that I've been loving DS. The shovel feel. The colors. The box. It's a whole package.
Dragon Shield is also my pick. I dont have much grip with them except that they should come out with more Neon and brighter colors. Neon green and pink will be so good! :D Other than that, I agree with you, quality, shuffle feel are just great.
good question. I seldom use over-sleeve because i do not use DBS art sleeves. However, in my opinion, I did try out 3 over-sleeves that i would like to comment on. 1. KMC - these are good however generic. Scratches rather easily. 2. Brocoli - product from Japan. Get the matte green one. Rather sturdy but does split on me. 3. Bushiroad (Super tough) - the thickest and toughest over sleeves i have tried. I do not remember which color (packaging) to get for the correct size but it's my go-to for now.
@@senzupop oh thank you for the answer, didn't expect that, video is so old haha, so i guess closest i can get of opaque mint color from dragon shield is buying eucalyptus?
Border? If I were to pick one, it will be Dragon Shield. It is tough. It last longer. And it is more resistant to dust due to the longer flap. You cannot go wrong with that.
SENZUPOP omg I’ve literally emailed them asking for hot pink! I suggested they do a crossover with crayola and use some cool crayon colors but they didn’t reply of course haha
You’re right depending on the box it’ll either double sleeve easy or be the worst but using another card to slide in or use side loading inners are easy. Even the dragon shield inners were hard
I actually got a bad pack of katanas 2 of the sleeves had a paint build up that made those 2 sleeves catch when shuffling. The build up looked like nipples. I couldn't sleeve my commander deck in that
Bobby Bero nope. I have bought about 30+ boxes but none a bad batch. I have some boxes with 1-2 busted sleeves but that’s all. However, we have had one incident where a player had to return a box of new sleeves after opening it because the side won’t smooth and even. He was just afraid that players will rule shark him by accusing him of marking the deck so he returned it.
I had a box of DS Mattes, Lilac if that matters, about 2 months before the posting point of this comment. Unfortunately they split on me after the 4th shuffle. It’s not incredibly likely, but defects can happen. Most of my boxes have been indestructible, granted.
I was one of those people that hated the extra lip at the top when you put a card in. You have opened my eyes and changed my life.
