Cena was a great champion in 2005 and 2006. People used to boo him in some moments but 90 percent of the time he got very huge pops. He also had great matches with JBL , Jericho and Angle.

Also, Christian was popular around this time but WWE stuck with Cena(when the fans started turning him) and Batista(this was the right call as he was the no.1 face in 2005). Cena also started doing his 5 moves of doom in the matches. Then they changed his character(the rapping gimmick got him over) and his theme song.
DJ Trankilo it’s all about booking in my book and what the superstar does with the title! Cena was on his way with his album and stuff. I would have waited on him getting drafted to raw.

I think John Cena was genuinely the last wrestler that made the title on Raw seem like the most important thing in the company. Brock Lesnar is/was never around enough, Daniel Bryan was feuding more with The Authority than it being about the title, Randy Orton was an afterthought, Kevin Owens was more of an afterthought, Seth Rollins was always overshadowed by something else going on and Roman Reigns never elevated the title. It’s a testament to John Cena that for the majority of his reigns as champion on Raw that nothing else appeared bigger than the title and he always elevated the title whether it was Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho or Edge in his first reign to Shawn Michaels, Triple H, CM Punk and The Rock in his later reigns.
I think I'm the only one that noticed this, but when Cena fought Jericho and Bischoff fired Jericho, Jericho didn't return until after Bischoff left the company in 07. Now that's long term booking

Idgaf, I grew up with the belt so my bias is very very real, but that spinner belt is absolutely gorgeous. If it didnt spin and was static I feel like people wouldnt feel so negative toward it
People diss on Cena but they have the same complaints about every superstar in the business. Cena had originality for the business and was only recently still their best promoter. WWE has its creative issues but I always liked Cena.

The Judgement Day 05’ PPV was the first PPV I went to. Had floor seats near the entrance so my 7-year-old self almost had a heart attack when Cena came out on the semi
Obviously, Cena was still green as grass in the ring, back then, so he was paired up with a bunch of veterans who all carried him and made him look like a million bucks throughout his first title run: Bradshaw, Jericho, Angle, etc. Yes, younger guys like Carlito (who was still a 2nd generation wrestler) and Chris Masters had minor roles in the title picture as well but were never Cena's main opponent to feud with.
Fun fact I attended summer-slam 2005 I watched half the fans turn on John Cena it was surreal to be apart of the split Crowd I had never experienced that live before. Fun match I nearly lost my voice by the end of the night fro cheering so hard.
