This movie was great! It got so much unnecessary hate before anyone ever even saw it..the little mermaid has always been my very favorite disney movie, and i loved this version of the story. They did such a great job with it!
I wouldn't call it unnecessary, disney is not taking care of their ips like the way they should. They are doing a terrible job lately. There definitely is a reason people aren't happy
It's getting hate because Disney is not creating new princesses with black ethnic or another new enthic that is not white instead they are recreating the same story

People didn't have a problem with the movie because she was black. They had a problem with it because they didn't stay faithful to the original. Yes Hailey did a great job but she just doesn't feel like Ariel. People are allowed to criticize without being racist.
(Reasons why people hated the race swap of Ariel and why it’s mostly not racist) point 1: a lot of people don’t like change, if Ariel was cast as a blond white girl or some fat lady, these people would be just as upset. Point 2: they’re not upset that she is black, they’re upset that she was made black the fact that they feel the need to change old characters that were loved is why people are upset, if anything that feels more racist than true representation where they make new characters rather than changing old characters. Point 3: even black people hate the race swap of Ariel, there is a viral RUclips short where a little black girl is shown the live action Little Mermaid and she doesn’t like it because Ariel is white, not brown and that her hair is long, not braided so honestly I am so sick and tired of people playing the racist card every time someone doesn’t like a movie, challenge the criticism if you feel they’re inaccurate but to call them racist just because they don’t like a movie you do is ignorant.

I love this movie so much
This movie was so well done. I haven't seen a criticism yet that the cast and creative team didn't rise above. Halle showed us why she was worthy of this role and the creative team spectacularly created an underwater kingdom. People get so used to CGI now that they overlook just how hard it is to make movies like this, where these mermaids look like they are seamlessly swimming in water but they aren't in water or mermaids for that matter. It truly is movie magic. I've watched it at least three times now.
One of my favorite Live Actions. ❤ Disney made the right choice picking Halle Bailey.

Listen, I saw this movie in the theaters 4 times and loved it every single time! Also cried every time, Halle's voice is gorgeous and her chemistry with Jonah is incredible. Still so in love, really glad you did this reaction!
Loved that you loved it girl. I love this movie sooo much. I think Halle is perfect as Ariel. What a voice! Such a talent there. Great casting, acting, great visuals, and the music. Love the new songs. Probably my favorite live action remake so far.
My darling I'm sooo soo happy you watched this!!! I've always loved the cartoon but this live action and specially Bailey's PERFECT voice and performance made me love it even more!!! SHE EMBODIED ARIEL!!! What a beautiful, fun movie!!

I love this movie so much. The little mermaid was in my top 5 favorite movies but it wasn't my top 3. And this live version is definitely in my top three. It's so good. It has respect for the original but it's different as well, but in a good way. The relationship between Eric and Ariel is super sweet and between Ariel and her father as well. Their scene at the end made me cry.
Kemi thank you so much for this!!! I absolutely loved this film! It definitely pays tribute to the original film while still making it its own! I really loved that they kept the concept of Triton and Ursula being siblings; I only wished that they would’ve expended more on it like they do in the musical adaption. The acting as well as the songs were phenomenal! I definitely love how they had Ariel and Ursula make a a blood pact, as opposed to the contract for not only solves the plot hole of her being able to write her own name, but it also cements the seriousness of the deal. One of my favorite moments was Vanessa’s Trick; Halle’s voice, Melissa’s cackle, and Jessica’s acting was what that moment top tier. I really hope that Hallie and Melissa receive Oscars for their outstanding and talented performances!!!

This film was amazing, a ton of people don’t realize how everything was actually filmed underwater in France. It is so difficult to film 1/2 of a film in 30 second clips of breath holds, and make everything look perfect in the end. This film is beautiful.
It was well done. Brought more emotions out of me than I expected it to. Respectful of cultures and the characters. It was realistically fantastic- I appreciate the work that went into it. And the underwater scenes- wow. CGI or whatever it is never looked so good.
The woman who gives Ariel the fork on land is the voice of Ariel in the cartoon. Jodi Benson. I love this movie. I cry at the end.

This movie is fantastic on so many levels, with so much nuance ethnicity wise, the movie starts out assuming ethnicity is no longer a problem in the larger scheme and lets us focus on the larger issues of getting along together as human beings. The backlash it got is just a sign of where we need to keep heading.
The one that gave Ariel the fork in the market place is actualy the actress that did the voice of Ariel in the original cartoon,I like that idea because it's liike she is passing the baton to Hailey and telling Hailey to take over for her. Glad to hear that you liked this one because in my opinion it's the best live action movie that they have done...mind you I don't consider Malficent and Mulan as live action adaptations cause they are both completly stand alone movies with their own story and yes I loved them both equally. Hailey has such an angelic voice and when I heard her singing Part of your world for the first time in the theaters I was blown away. I like the subtle changes they made making Eric have a backstory to him,showing the queen and having both Eric and Ariel have the fact that they are both collectors in common. Just so you know Scuttle saying 'kill' the prince instead if 'kiss' is a nod to the original story writen by hans christian anderson because in the original story the deal was kill the prince and you can stay human but in the last moment Ariel couldn't do it because she fell for him and so she ran to the water but didn't make it and when the sun rose she became a statue for all to see. I love how Hailey gives her own take on Ariel and also I love Malissa Macartney as Ursulla she fits the part so well and had no idea she could sing like that. When Ursulla is getting annoyed at not finding the potion she wants that is such a Malissa moment because she is a comidian also you might know her as Sookie from the Gilmore Girls show.
This movie is enchanting.

I was swooning so hard to Prince Eric’s song when I saw this in theaters. This is a really good movie.
I'm going to watch when it comes out on Disney plus.
This, Cinderella Aladdin are my Favorites of the Disney Live Action wave, not to exclude the 101 Dalmatians, which i view as before the wave.
They arent Flawless films, Aladin has issues and this film had issues with drawing things, mainly camera shots and the Skuttlebut song out a bit too long.
Then there is beauty and the Beast which is may animated Favorite and the live actionbis beautiful and overall good, but it has issues it shouldn't have, like altering aspects of their earlier developing relationship and not having anything for Emma Watson to react to during the be or guest scene so she had to act off prompts. Just because a scene will be heavy CGI doesn't mean you can't help give your cast something to play off of when shooting them for their part in it. Overall a good film though.
Lastly the Lion King, though Technically impressive, gutted the character and heart of the original film to play to a hyper realism of visuals for some reason.
And Mulan.... Mulan just lost the plot imo. It was more or less just its own film based on the same legend instead of a live action re-imagining of the Disney Clasic. Which would be fine if it was able to be a good film . Though with the issues around its making and Mystic powers undermining the core message of not letting society define you or keep you from doing whats right by shifting it from a effort driven aspect to she is naturally a superhuman, just ugh.
The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie.

"You shouldn't have to give up your voice to be heard" as someone who is having trouble to get people to listen, to understand me I get it and that line I fell in love with and should happen our voices should be heard so we don't give up anything just to be heard for once.

I absolutely loved this movie.
Omg. I love this movie. I saw it twice in theaters and I can’t wait for it to come to Disney+ . I’m also buying the blu-Ray and I had to have the singing doll. Halle is out of this world amazing. The entire cast was. It’s my favorite movie so far this year. I also loved The Chevalier movie. You should do that one. And trust me , this far surpasses the cartoon. Folks were saying extremely racist things about Halle’. And other people of color in the cast.

The live action is never as good. I think they should just give up on that. It’s just really hard to make a live action. That is as good as the classic animated version. It’s always kind of a disappointment.

It's a different take. I actually enjoyed this more, I thought it was more emotionally satisfying but everyone has a right to their opinion.
