Thank you. Sir András plays the fortepiano beautifully, and it sounds as though this Sonata was written specifically for this instrument. 💙

Haydn owned both clavichords and a Shudi Broadwood Harpsichord 1777 with machine stops and Venetian Swell (Frederick the Great owned three) either instrument capable of performing the dynamics mentioned in the Sonata, the Harpsichord at full volume The First Haydn Sonata for Harpsichord or Fortepiano is his 34th in the Hoboken Catalog, published in the 1783, consensus written in the late 1770s prior to JH’s purchase of a Broadwood Grand Piano sometime in the 1780s The Grand Forte Pianos popularity in England 1792 begins, yet George Washington purchased a Longman & Broderip Harpsichord in 1793. The presence of Dynamic indications isn’t defacto proof of fortepiano intention by the composer.
