    Thanks for posting :) I will buy the plans, as I really want an accurate fence right now.
    I really appreciate your teaching style, freindly, open, humorous and clear. Top stuff :)

    Hi Steve, thanks for the shout out. New workshop looks good. I wondered where you had gone, but was told today by Doug that you have to log on to U Tube, which I have now done, to find a wealth of your excellent work. Good to be back in touch. Take care.

    Your method of squaring the fence is brilliant. Can’t wait to try it. Thanks from the colonies.😊😊

    Fantastic work, Steve! Thanks a bunch for the tutorial! 😃
    I have a Stanley job site saw and the fence isn't exactly fancy either... So, I may try it!
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

      LOL! The saw I was alluding to was an Axi, 30 years ago. I encourage you to have a go, you won't be disappointed.

      Hi mate I’m from Australia and I thought that Axminster sold good quality products so after reading your message I have doubts. I’ll be researching a bit deeper now. It’s crazy from your short message it said a lot so thanks.

      I was not intending to dis Axminster. The quality of woodworking stuff available to UK woodworkers has improved vastly in the last few decades and Axi have played a significant role in that. They do sell some top-quality stuff. But thirty-odd years ago there was a lot of low-quality entry-level machines about and I bought one. Buy cheap, buy twice, eh?

    Steve like many l have a great cabinet saw but it’s let down massively by the fence which is the type you described at the beginning. For years I’ve been wondering what to do about it well, now l know so thanks very much, I’ll be on the hunt for the steel first thing tomorrow 👍. Keep up the excellent videos, ATB, Woody.

    Steve, what strength toggle clamp do you use please. Great video super helpful. My Kity 419 fence walks when you tighten the screw thread. I’m guessing someone bent it at some point in its life.

    Nice job on the fence. I have a old Wadkin Bursgreen which I am restoring, it had a round rail fence with a similar rod clamp system. I just hate these, and considering brand name fences cost I will rather build my own fence and your fence is a brilliant one.

    Any chance that I can do something similar to a saw with an aluminum top?

    • @SteveMaskery
      @SteveMaskery  5 месяцев назад +1

      I don't see why not. It doesn't rely on magnetism. How is your existing fence rail attached? If you can fix a new one in the same way, you are good to go.

    New workshop Steve? Have you moved?

  • @cbauer72

    For the angle iron on the back of the saw, why did you choose to mount it in thay orientation and not flipped over? Wouldn't that have allowed for a shorter nylon bolt at the end of the fence?

    • @SteveMaskery
      @SteveMaskery  7 месяцев назад

      Well that nylon bolt is not very long, only about 15mm or so. It rides on the top edge, not the bottom fence. See where I am touching at 4:00. But there are two reasons for it.
      Originally the rails were very much longer and I didn't have room in my workshop to use them, so I bought stock to make exactly the same, but shorter, hoping that one day I would have a workshop big enough to use the originals. As it happenend those rails got stolen, so I never did get to use them. But that rail is like that to accommodate my original fence, which I use most of the time.
      The bottom face of that L-section also doubles as a mount for my outfeed table, which hinges down out of the way if I have to move my saw. HTH.
