I love how you mix learning and fun commentary in all your videos.🤣
Hahah thankssss :)
Seconded. 👍😄
This video is very helpful. It is nice to see how they react and the necessary tweaking with raw food. Thanks!
Yay I’m so glad you liked it!! :)
Also, for how much to feed. You give them as much as they want to eat. They don't overeat on raw (very often at least) so you want to give them whatever they will eat.
Ohhhhh ok makes sense! I was looking everywhere but kept seeing differing amounts🤔
@@MyFunkyFerrets same i see different videos online and i heard that depending on their weight is how much they need to eat, but im still doing research on that balancing the age and weight.
The 'ick' response will fade rapidly, trust me. Anyway, besides learning a lot (always a good thing), raw feeding will get you acclimated with working with and preparing a wide assortment of animal proteins, which is a skill that will pay for itself many times over in the years ahead, as you shop and cook for yourself and others. With time, it will become less tedious and more of an outlet for creativity and self confidence. Providing for pets is a good stepping stone to eventually providing for family and partner. 🙂
Just out of curiosity, what's a typical per pound ballpark cost for those packages ?
Interesting to see how the pricing stacks up against things you can replicate yourself at either wholesale or retail level.
I agree! I really enjoy putting together the meals and shopping for them :) I like to get creative and take pictures of the meals too haha
@@RovingPunster its about $5 for a pound of balanced chicken grinds! Much cheaper than kibble or freeze dried food.. I've heard its a little cheaper to replicate it yourself with various proteins and stuff like that but since I'm still at the beginning stage, I don't want to mess anything up just yet... plus this is an easy way for now to get them introduced at first :)
@@MyFunkyFerrets FWIW, whole chicken retails for around $0.99/lb in more competitive supermatkets in my area, and giblets are even cheaper. If you have access to wholesale outlets (ex: restaurant depot), and can buy/store in bulk, its upto 20-40% cheaper still. I dont have a pet currently, but I do cook a lot, so this is not alien turf for me. 😉
Meat grinders can be found easily in yard sales or bought new on amazon, and might be a good investnent in the long haul. Heavier duty models can be gotten at restaurant supply markets. I have a grinder attachment for my stand mixer that works decently ... but I admit ive never tried grinding bone-in cuts. It could probably handle chicken necks and small wings, with the right dies, but nothing larger.
@@RovingPunster it’s definitely cheaper! I usually buy the gizzards and hearts at my local supermarket👍 I’ll look into the grinders too.. I’d be a little nervous about grinding the bones myself though
I have 5 ferrets but they are all under 1 year old and im feeding right now atleast 20 oz a day because i was doing 16 oz and they would want more. I’m doing 14 oz or 13.5 oz of grinds for breakfast depending if im adding a supplement of green lipped mussels or salmon or tripe. If i do add any of these i do 13.5 oz of grinds. I do 5.5 or 6.0 oz of raw meaty bone for dinner most days except twice a week i do a 10oz organ soup instead.
My plan right now:
Monday
Breakfast:
-14 oz Grinds
Dinner:
-10 oz Organ soup
Tuesday
Breakfast:
-13.5 oz Grinds
-1oz Salmon fish
Dinner:
-5.5 oz Meaty chicken thigh bone
Wednesday
Breakfast:
-13.5 oz Grinds
-1oz Green lipped mussels
Dinner:
-5.5 oz Meaty chicken thigh bone
Thursday
Breakfast:
-13.5 oz grinds
-1 oz salmon fish
Dinner:
-5.5 Meaty chicken thigh bone
Friday
Breakfast:
-14 oz Grinds
Dinner:
-10 oz Organ soup
Saturday
Breakfast:
-14 oz Grinds
-2 Eggs
Dinner:
-6 oz Meaty chicken thigh bone
Sunday
Breakfast:
-13.5 oz Grinds
-1 oz Tripe
Dinner:
-5.5 oz Meaty chicken thigh bone
**keep in mind this is for 5 really young ferrets, but maybe it can help you have an idea cause I know I struggled going through so many videos to calculate everything**
I also do atleast 4 different meats for their grinds. This month im doing chicken, turkey, beef, pork but i will be trying muskrat and mutton the following months. Im trying to only change one meat every month so that they can get used to different meats and not upset their bellies. I get most of my food from mypetcarnivore. If you have freezer space i suggest ordering 3+ months in advance and you save alot of money, this way im spending only around $100 a month in my order even paying their $30 shipping for 100lbs of food. I get my mussels and salmon from raw feeding Miami and my meaty bones atleast this month i got chicken thighs and they were from my local Walmart. So all in total probably spending around $115 a month for 5 babies. Hope this helps!
Oh my gosh you are a life saver thank you sooooooo much for this comment!!!!! This helps me so much❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@MyFunkyFerrets of course!🥰
@Queena S. Hi, if you will be feeding raw, start with about 3-4 oz a day. If you see that theres a bit left behind at the end of the day, then that should be a good amount. If you see the bowl is empty and he seems to stay hungry after finishing his food try upping it up. In my experience 4 oz is a good amount per ferret but that depends on your individual ferret as they are all different. Hope this helps!
@@theoreoferrets4077 is 4 oz for one meal like breakfast and then you do the same for dinner?
I never knew ferret diets were so complicated!
Me either until I ventured into the raw feeding world😅
They are the cutest little thing awwww
Arent theyyyyyy?😬😬 thanks!!
thanks for sharing! What’s the recipe for the soup? If you mind sharing 😊
subbed and i put notis on i'm in love with this ferrets
Thank you so much!!
I love your ferrets they look cute
Thank you!! :)
@@MyFunkyFerrets your welcome I wish I could have ferrets they cute
How much/many grinds do you purchase at once and how long do they last in the fridge/freezer?
also where did you get that bananaaaaaaaaaa?????
it’s great that you’re feeding your ferrets tripe, but don’t be too concerned if they don’t eat it, it’s not all that common since yea, tripe smells like hell XD
make sure to watch out for if your ferrets have an allergic reaction to any of the type of meats you give them, I saw some heartbreaking images on a ferret forum of someone’s ferret’s allergic reaction to chicken, she had an inflamed face and toe beans, very pink and very swollen
Hii! My name is Samantha (I think that's your name too but idk) well, I always wanted ferrets. But I didn't really spoke up to my parents. I mean I am turning 13 in December... Butttt, my father said If I have just A+(sorry I have NO idea how the grates in USA or smth are like, I live in austria and the best grate is 1) sooooo, my father said if I just have 1 in every subject (I hope you understand I'm stupid lmao) then I'm gonna get 2 ferrets! And he will buy the cage+ food for the first days+toys. And I'm really trying to get better! I have like weeks until our grates can change again. Idk why I am posting this but I just wanted to say that I'm studying all night bc I want ferrets sooo bad they really have my heart 😔. (btw I love your videos)
Haha that is my name! :)))) I understand everything! That’s sooo awesome❤️ I hope you get good grades so you can get your babies ❤️❤️❤️❤️
hi! i wanted to ask an experienced owner, what is your opinion on vaccinating ferrets? in terms of when to do it or if they need it at all?
I've heard many different opinions
When do you take out the freezer? The night before? Are they fine with the meat cold? I’m new to raw and got commercial grinds coming tomorrow.
where’d you find them because i can’t find those on the website
How do y’all switch’s difficult ferret to raw? I have 2 ferrets, one will eat anything I put in front of her. She took right to the soupy (the chunkier I make it I’m sure she may have issues), but my other ferrets acts like she is deathly afraid of it. I’m using chicken to start, and I made it very watery just to see if that helped. I’ve dabbed some in her nose and on her mouth and she won’t even lick it off. How long can the soupy mix sit in the cage? Can I leave it put all day? Or should I be sitting and trying to make them finish their meal and take it up as soon as they are done?
i know i keep asking questions 😭 but is there any cages that you recommend i don’t wanna spend too much money but at the same time i want a good quality cage (i’m only getting one ferret BTW..for now)
Ferret nation!
Hii! I don’t know if you have your ferret or cage yet but a single ferret nation should be just fine for you! Plus when you get more ferrets, you can purchase add-on units to make it bigger! It’s pretty awesome!
Amazing work!! :)
Thank you!!! :)
I need a asmr is done countdown so I can turn my volume back down 😂😂
Hahahah sorry!!
What kind of freeze dried foods do you use?
where’s sam, the other ferret? btw i love watching you.
Haha thank you!!❤️
Awwwwww there so cute just wondering do they cost a lot of money to get one
Depends where you get them! Pet stores can be around $150-$200, rescues can be any price really, and sometimes people are giving them away for free
@@MyFunkyFerrets thanks i might get one bc there cute
How did you get them eating from a bowl so quickly?!?! I've been trying to transition for nearly a month and he's only willing to be handfed...
I think the only reason they’re good with it because I feed them freeze dried anyway with warm water in a soup in the bowl so they’re used to it! Sometimes I do have to spoon feed them though.. especially Pina
i have four ferrets and i was wondering if raw food is better than dry for ferrets
Yes!
can I have a shoutout I subscribe
and can you do a video of pros and cons of ferrets
Sure :)
