Mate!!!!1 you are a total diamond, was quoted to change the egr for an arm and a leg, but after watching your video i took the top of the egr off and used a little penetrating oil while giving the valve a good move. Eml never come back and all is running fine 3 months later.

I have a 2013 Transit Connect, which has recently developed a rough idle and engine hesitation, so I put my OBD reader on. Came up with a big red X against EGR valve. Not going to mess about cleaning something that has done 120,000 miles. I've picked up a genuine motorcraft replacement on Amazon, and ordered a new gasket all for less than 85 bucks. My local Ford garage was very helpful making sure I had ordered the right part number as per my VIN, but they couldn't match the Amazon price, even at trade. I had already decided I was going to tackle it myself, being an ex-mechanic, although not for the past 30 years, but I figured it was still within my skillset, and of course I have the bonus of all the tools I will need. Your vid pretty much confirmed what I had already mentally worked out as my best approach, so a big thanks for that. Your vid is excellently filmed, with a great explanatory commentary, so I am now well prepared. I'll be tackling this at the weekend, and I'll let you know how it went. Thanks again for taking the time to upload such a helpful video.

I'm actually gonna take it off today, and just replace with a new one just because it's so hard to take off and put back on and don't want to do that twice!! The other problem can be the electrical component on the top with the 4 screws that can be defective not doing it's job pushing the plunger. I bought mine at a local Napa store which cost $81.00, when all the other big box stores wanted anywhere from $180-$240!! Napa is usually More expensive, I was surprised!. I will update after I do this! Thank You for this very well informative video Gerald!! Any other comments you may have from this comment, please reply. Thanks!

thank you very much friend. I replaced the EGR valve with a new one and the problem continued. Thanks to you I cleaned the old valve and installed it again and I haven't had any more problems. I have driven my car for 3,508 miles and have had no problems.

I am NOT looking forward to needing to take all that other stuff out of the way. :( Anyway, thank you so much for the extremely thorough video!

Hi thanks for your very informative video . Would you suggest anything for me on my returning p0400 code. I got 2007 focus . I have replaced egr valve and vacuum solenoid but still popping up engine light once i drive 5 to 10km after code is cleared. Never had any symptoms even before parts were replaced. I went to mechanic and auto electrician they didnt seem to know much. Thanks

  • @mattwej007
    @mattwej007 Год назад

Hi Gerard, what would you consider being a culprit, when I still get P0400 even though I have cleaned the original valve, then replacing it with a new Pierburg one and still get the flow problem and heavy pinging under load. When I unplug the valve, I still get the symptoms until the third start, when the fault is detected and engine light comes on. After that, there is no more pinging and surging under acceleration. So EGR is definitely the culprit or at least connected to it. Could be the passages in the head clogged?

I had a P0403 fault code on my Focus,it had a break in the wire going into the multi plug for the EGR Valve, fixed that, put new valve in,now ended up after a while with a P0400 Code,so going to take the valve off and clean everything

Thanks for this Gerard. I was having trouble finding videos that help a MK2.5 Focus but this is the closest to mine.
I tried this earlier but my socket set is too thick to get in under the hose to undo the rear (as you look at it) bolt. If you could recommend any thinner ones, like the ones you have, that'd be helpful.
    Thanks again

He used quarter inch drive that’s a tiny ratchet and because the tight only have to be tight enough to seal out air they don’t need to be that tight

Anyone know what will happen for the upper part(black motor or solenoid)if I separate it form bottom part but still connect to the ecu? Will the motor breaks down because without load form botton? I'm trying to remove the EGR function but don't want the fault code to pop up. I'm wondering if just to separate them will work.

Thanks for the video Gerard. Just a question about the coolant - did you clamp off the line to prevent losing coolant does it flow from/to a port in the engine? How much do you think comes out? Cheers

    • @SpectreOZ

Yellow clamp seen at 12:24, vacuum in cooling system should help reduce amount if no clamp is used, top up as necessary 👍

I have a problem that I will explain to you if you have experience that can help me..??
    What is the reason??
When I come I love gear on R or D and I am still smashing the brakes, there will be a jerk in the car..and also a jerk in the light of the car lights...?
But when I walk normally, the car jerks and the car lights up sometimes.... Also, when I'm in a park and the car is not working and I come to raise the bottles I get the shivers increase and rise more and when I remove the glass or put the gear on N, the shivers go. D you get shivers..?
Sometimes a sign appears on the dashboard of the car. I checked a computer, and it appears before it disappears, and a malfunction has appeared in P0400
What is the reason, can you help me if you have experience?? ..
Of course the car is Vitara Grand 2000 v4
Can you help me what caused the tremor problem?

The answer is if you can't find the time to do all the testing then the best option is to replace it, it is very likely to be the root cause. The testing procedures are to confirm this before replacement.

Change an egr on a 1.8 tdci focus, then say this is hard to change. This is quite easy by today's standards
