To be fair, Vice-President (2001-2009) Dick Cheney's daughter was openly gay and got married. He was a dyed-in-the-wool conservative but he did support gay marriage. And of course there have been lots of public figures, even presidents and kings, who have been queer, but in older times, it was much easier to keep it quiet and pretend otherwise.

I have seen this movie countless times, again and again, along with everything related to it, like blooper reels, interviews, and of course reaction videos. Fair to say I'm completely obsessed, but only in the best way. Never in my long did I ever expect to see anything as sweetly done. (PS - mostly I tear up at the happy stuff so I tend to be pretty dehydrated by the end of each time I watch this.)

Me, too. I am totally obsessed. I've read the book twice, but for me the movie outshines the book. I love everything about it.

@@draperbell Exactly. There are many who like the book better and I respect their opinions but seeing and hearing something tends to have more impact than reading it. And in this case, I remain stunned by the craftsmanship of the movie, the tightness of the dialog.
And I have never never even come close to my reaction to any other book OR movie. (Many other people report the same.)

The actors for Alex and Henry were perfect in their roles and really conveyed the love the two characters had for each other. They were committed to being loyal to the book. I found this a beautiful representation of how things could be and with a happy ending. Much needed at this point in time particularly. I’ve lost count of how many times I watched this which I never thought I would do with any movie. Thanks for your great reaction.

In the US, this movie had an R rating, meaning that if it had been released in theaters, nobody under 16 would be admitted without a parent. Other than the brief glimpse of Alex's backside and an f-bomb or two, not sure why it got that rating. The bedroom scenes were pretty tame. Many are speculating that it got the R rating because it is a LGBTQ relationship shown, which sucks.

I took my 70 year old mom to see it (also made her read the book) and she ranted for half an hour after that this should be PG13 she’s seen more explicit things in PG13 movies and was soooo angry it was rated R because teens need to be able to see it and feel they have hope they can find love if they want to, too. And then asked me if the sex poses was real because while she hadn’t thought too hard about how 2 men have sex she didn’t realize they had more positions available and so if she didn’t know she also thought young queer teens needed to see that and hear the President’s safe sex talk.

I loved your reaction. It is a movie that you can laugh like when Hurricane Zhara discovers them in the hotel or cry like when Alex asks him to fight for his love when he stormed the castle or when Henry declares his love for Alex in the museum.
To think that because of a misunderstanding they hate each other and when they are forced to spend time together they see that something has begun to attract them. Henry was attracted to Alex from the beginning, but because of his position he hid it under layers of snobbery and sometimes rude attitudes. Alex, who at first had no doubts about his bisexuality, but questioned whether he was attracted to Henry and in the end ends up completely in love.
Both Taylor and Nick are two excellent actors who gave the most adorable, loveable and loving Alex and Henry that we could imagine.

I'm so glad you got to react to this! I loved the book first and adore the movie. I was an emotional mess by the end of this movie too. Hope you get to watch the deleted scenes and bloopers, they are very fun. You're right both actors are wonderfully talented individually and so great together. They could not have found two better actors to play Alex and Henry. The rest of the cast was great, too! The funny thing about Taylor's eyelashes is there is actually a particularly well known line from the book where Henry mumbles something about Alex's eyelashes. I cannot believe they managed to find someone as insanely beautiful as Taylor Zakhar Perez to play Alex, who was also so charismatic and funny and warm. Nick Galitzine brought a softness to Henry underneath the poshness that was lovely, too. I'm so happy they are making a sequel! I highly recommend the book in the meantime. The letters that Alex and Henry write back and forth to each other in the book in particular are incredible.

I loved your reaction. I was skeptical about the movie before I saw it. In general, I think love stories are more interesting if they AREN'T set among the rich & famous. But in this film, it was kind of essential, and the film (script) made some really good points along the way, as well as containing some very funny lines. I still think "He grabbed my hair in a way that made me understand the difference between rugby and football" is absolutely hilarious. The line doesn't make sense, but it's just plain funny!
    Keep up the good work.

The book is really good as well, and I actually think it deserved to be made into like a four part series at least. They cut out a lot of parts and changed quite a few as well. But of course that’s what happens when you only have 2 hours to cover a 400 page book🤷‍♀️

Loved rewatching this with you. You asked about when it would be ok to show this to kids/teens and it made me think. I've always been of the mind that my job as a parent from when they are 10-18 should be to prepare them to be a good human as an adult but be there as a safety net. That being said, 15 years ago when they were that age my views on LGBTQ were not bad but also not great. It just wasn't something I talked about with them at the time. I am glad that I gave my kids room to come to their own outlooks on things including LGBTQ relationships. I'm very lucky that both my kids are compassionate, kind adults and much more settled in who they are than I was at their ages.

I loved this film and thought like you said it had so many elements in it and tackled a lot of issues and is relatable for so many people. I get what you are saying about the age thing as well though because when I think back to when I was 12 my parents were ok with me watching some films with swear words but not something with a sex scene. I think in this the dirty jokes would prehapes go over some kid's heads but while I think the sex scene in this was so tastfully done in a way I have never seen a gay romance portrayed before it's still clear what they are doing so yeah mabye a 12a then it depends on the parents but its so hard because i also think its mild enough that 15 is mabye starting to be too old. Either way amazing film i have never seen a gay ramance done like this in such a natural and flowing way not in a film anyway and i loved how they did it and the actors/actresses were amazing in it.

I've always felt that age restrictions should mostly be for horror themes and explicit depictions of any kind of abuse, they should not cater to our overly prudish sensibilities. I'm European, I'd have watched this at the age of 11 no problem, that was 30 years ago. We watched scary things with my girlfriends on sleepovers and Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing were our favorite movies. They had prostitutes, drugs, sexually suggestive dancing, illegal abortion and what not. Red, White & Royal Blue could therefore only be restricted for being LGBTQ content and that's all kinds of stupid.

It's weird that Prime has it rated as 12, cause I'm pretty sure the Motion Pictures Association gave it an R-Rating. Or 17+. It was a whole thing when that was announced cause everyone that read the books got really excited about them actually having the sex scenes and showing the nuances of it in a gay movie. And then it came out, and it was tamer than expected, and people got mad cause they only rated it R instead of 15+ or so, because it is an LGBTQ+ relationship. But yeah, it has never been rated for 12+, that doesn't even make any sense.
