I’m considering an H5 and was looking at all the RUclips videos... I must say that this tutorial was the best I’ve seen... very comprehensive and the best part was even though I knew everything you were teaching, you kept me engaged the whole time. Thanks.
Can't believe it has taken me this long to find a video on this recorder that is as informative and helpful as this video. It's literally THE video that everyone is looking for, but this by far has been the most helpful. I was confused for so long as to why my audio technica microphone wasn't working with my h5 and the whole concept of phantom power was over my head. Who knew it was just a few setting configurations that needed to be done. Thanks again!
TYSM I watched so many videos and alot of them were hard to follow. Not to mention their outdated equipment made it even harder!. Your video showed me how to set up, record, and upload the audio to my computer. TYSM !!!
The basic startup is well presented. I was hoping to use this more like the M-Audio interface of yesteryear, and run off the USB to finish an audiobook. I'll listen to the other vids to see if I can find enough details to edit corrections into an audiobook. Thanks for this useful intro.
Excellent set of both videos. Why you stop making and uploading videos on this channel? I hope everything is good. You have a good talent of making tutorial videos, please start it again or provide the link if you have started the channel with some other name. Thanks
The card reader function at the end makes me wonder if someone would use the Zoom H5 as their SD card reader for a computer (for video files and more)!Perhaps for a laptop in the field? That would be a neat use case. Thanks for the thorough video!
can i use it to record my vocals on Rode NT1A? I mean is the quality of preamps appropriate? I want to record vocals without computer so that the sound of fans can be eliminated.
Hi there! I recently purchased the Zoom H5 recorder and was wondering if anyone has experience on how to position it to record from a grand piano? Much appreciated 🙏☺️
Hi, thank you for this, Very informative for a newbee to VO's. I have a question that I believe has already been asked but hasn't been answered as yet. When I put my Zoom H5 on and press the 1 button for the XLR 1 jack, both the 1 AND the 2 lights come on. I am unable to put them on or off separately. They are always both off or both on together. Any idea why? Thanks so much.
I know this is an old video, but I was wondering, what is the max length the h5 can record? Can you sit down for an interview, and hit record, and just talk for 2 hours? The panasonic recorder I have dumps files out every 15 minutes, so I end up with a bunch of small file that I need to merge later. Annoying, but it does help when you reach a card limit, and only the last few minutes are gone, not the whole interview. Just wondering.
Enjoyed your video. Found it to be very informative. I do how ever have a question that I hope you could help me with. I going to be doing vehicle videos and would like to catch sound of these vehicles from their exhaust and engine bays. What kind of mics would you suggest and also what setting would be proper for this type of recording. Appreciate any info you could give and thanks in advance.
...and one more question...Can you record in Stereo with the XLR mics? I am sometimes asked by an agent to send them an mp3 file rather than a wav. Since you can't record an mp3 in multi mode, is it safe to recored an mp3 in stereo with an XLR mic? I have a CAD E 100S. Thanks, agian.
Thank you, this is helpful. However, how can I use both the XYZ capsule (L+R) and a single external microphone with XLR (for channel 1)? I didn´t yet manage to enable 1, while L+R are enabled.
This is great thanks. One question--if I am recording with someone else using the two mics...does it save it as one file, or will it save mic 1 voice on a separate file than mic2 voice? Just thinking later for editing, will I have two files, one for each mic?
You can record two people at the same time, each to their own track. (Sorry for the delay in replying here.) Here's the copy from page 19 of the User's manual: "MULTI FILE mode. The L/R inputs from the XY mic or other input capsule are recorded to the L/R tracks, and Inputs 1/2 are recorded to tracks 1/2 as separate files. Since the signals from the inputs are recorded to separate files, you can change their playback volumes and positions, for example, independently after recording. Only 44.1/48kHz WAV formats (16/24-bit) can be selected when recording in MULTI FILE mode." Here's a link to the H5 user manual: www.zoom-na.com/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/E_H5_0.pdf I hope that helps!
Hi Friend, I cannot record with an external mike I got an TAKSTAR an XLR with 3.5 mil female to the mike when I press 1 the 2 also is on I follow you but not luck any IDEA? thanks
There are a couple different options you have here. If you're going to use an XLR/3.5mm connector, you'll want to connect it to Input 1 at the base of the unit, and you DON'T want to use phantom power. Instead, you'll need to use battery power in the microphone itself. Your other option is to plug the Takstar into the "MIC/LINE input jack" on the X/Y microphone capsule (the one that actually comes with the H5). Let me know if that works, alright?
No joke , I’ve watched so many videos on this recorder, I don’t comment on people’s videos usually but yours was actually the best. Thank you
Exagerado.

you have taken what so many others have made complicated into a simple quick easy to follow tutorial, thank you.

Excellent video, thanks for making it!
Very helpful tutorial. Thank you 👍
I have to turn the gain up to 10 to get a tiny amount of sound
Is my phantom power not working? It's turned on.
Hello, does the zoom h5 record 2 individule files for both the mics or they are recorded together in one file?
Make sure you tell people to have the mono mix option enabled when using xlr phantom power mic so you can get left and right sound.
thanks for your tutorial. quite helpful!
Which is better-stereo or multi channel mono? I use 2 SM 58 Shure mics and getting a concert recorded.
Just the kind of information I was looking for, thank you 🙏 👍
Your vidéo is super simple thank you

Hi there! I recently purchased the Zoom H5 recorder and was wondering if anyone has experience on how to position it to record from a grand piano? Much appreciated 🙏☺️
can you use the two xlr mics and the top mics at the same time?
I want to know this too! Did you happen to find out if you can or not?
@@porscheblondie yes it works plug both mics in and you will be able to arm all 4 tracks in multi mode.
L/R is one track and track 1 and 2 are separate so 3 all together
@@jersmith1486 Thank you for that and thanks so much for taking the time to reply 🙏
@@porscheblondie you're welcome glad I can help.

trying to figure this out too I know you can do it in multi mode but I'm trying to do it in stereo mode which says has better quality.
