As usual with most productions....Maribel's great aria after the Zsupan's pig polka is sadly cut......and it's probably the most forward looking number in the whole work and without it, much is lost. It has a nearly Kurt Weill quality.....It's brilliantly performed on the Harnoncourt recording by Elizabeth von Magnus. The Harnoncourt recording is the only one remotely worth owning. It restored nearly 45 minutes of music previously thought lost.
I've been to Morbisch. I agree. The Harnoncourt version should be published and performed. I don't mind cuts but don't like the traditional ones: another is the trio for Carnero (about his Morals Commission), Mirabella and Zsupan in Act ll. Unfortunately some of the music is still missing due to theatre fires. However we owe it to the composer to restore the original keys for Zsupan (comic tenor) and Homonay (bass or baritone). The coda after the Drinking Song (Csardas) was first meant for Barinkay. The range for Ottokar is baritone though always sung in the proper key. The brilliant opéra-comique is certainly an anti-war work. I faithfully translated it into English and even read the Jokai story in English.
An extremely underrated masterpiece of music…

Habe schon lange keine so schöne Aufführung gesehen

Плохо работает ютюб
Die schlechteste Produktion, die ich je gesehen habe. Die Darsteller waren absolut unmöglich!!
