I lived in Solvang when I was around 12 yo. I LOVED that town. Dad got transferred a lot but the people in Solvang and Santa Ynez were the nicest people I've ever gotten to have as neighbors. I learned to horse back ride there and they would have little parades through the town. Select kids would hold the Solvang sign in the parade - I was the V since I was the tallest girl lol, plus kind of Danish looking with red hair. Learned to crochet there too made millions of those funky 1970 crochet vests and ponchos. Of course everyone wore clogs there at least in '73. Used to be able to horseback ride at Cachuma lake . the people that owned the Cachuma Lake boarding stable back in '73 would let me ride by myself which was amazing. They do not let people do that anymore. I would go through water and up steep hills by myself. Funny that the horse I road, Bobby looks just like one of my current horses. Best experience of my life and I ended up being a horse rescuer with as many as 6 horses. I am so grateful they let me do that.

Hood River was a big attraction for fruit when I was a girl in the 1960s. It became internationally famous when it was identified as a wind surfing destination, and lost some of its charm. It is still wonderful. If you go, take the Hood River train through fruit country. It’s magical. I took my aunt when she was 92, and we missed the return train! There are no Ubers or taxis there! The docent of the museum and his grand son gave us a ride back to Hood River! My aunt was talking about our adventure for months.

@@angelinahunter182 When I was still in California and she was still in Oregon, I visited my aunt a couple times a year. We did a trip to Seaside one year. Our hotel had a balcony, and she LOVED sitting on it to watch people on the beach. Her dementia is rather advanced now, but I wish I was out there to have another adventure with her. One of my other childhood friends remarried at 89. His lovely wife passed when my mother did. I know he never stops missing her, but he's built a wonderful life with the new lady, and she is wonderful to him. They did three trips last year, including a CRUISE. He is 93 now, and hasn't dropped a step. Works in his yard every day in the spring and summer. I am so happy he isn't alone anymore.

Jackson, WY. So much to do in every season. National Museum of Wildlife Art, world class photo and art shops, rock & western shops, phenomenal restaurants, ice skating in a cute town square surrounded by wooden boardwalks, summer rodeos and a music festival, ski resorts, tubing, wildlife tours, biking, fly fishing, river rafting, dude ranching, and hiking in nearby Grand Tetons. Airport 7 miles out of town means easy access for long weekends. Great local shuttle for free. Can get crowded in the heart of summer, not bad in other seasons. Expensive.

I liked your selection and also your approach to what would be interesting about the various towns - a cut above most shows like this. A small detail - I'd like to see the camera brought down a bit so we could see you maybe to the waist. It looks as if you are straining to look upward. I think you'd look more relaxed if you were looking straight on, and we saw more of you. I'm not a cameraman, but I hope this makes sense. Looking forward to more shows.

I'd love to see that as well! I'm interested in college towns like Athens, GA and Brevard NC as possible places to move & would love to learn more about some of them.

I was surprised I’ve seen a lot of these towns. Frankenmuth, Taos and I almost moved to St Augustine but wound up buying in Satellite Beach bc that’s a really cute small town too. Not as beautiful as St Augustine but way less touristy.

I've lived in North Dakota for about 40 years. Medora, in the very far western part of North Dakota, is great for a weekend, or a week-long visit. Go there and do all of the fun, touristy, 'western' things. Enjoy the scenery, as it is so pretty. From about April to October, that is the huge Tourism season in Medora and the Teddy Roosevelt National park, with over 600,000 tourists visiting per year. That is a lot of tourists for a small town like Medora, which has a normal population of about 120 people.

Great job with the list you came up with. I would love to visit them. From this video, I like the Hood River, OR the most because of it's beautiful and bountiful natural resources. As far as other small towns I have visited, I would add Eureka, CA in my list because of the famous Victorian Houses, huge Sequioa trees, the Confusion Hill and so much more.

Hood River is truly a special area! Also, you’re right Eureka is one of those hidden gems! Thanks for tuning in!

This was a very interesting presentation of the small charming places in America, I myself has visited at least four of them and I love them. I'm subscribing to this site, the information presented was great by this young man along with the interesting pieces of history provided. I am subscribing to this site to see more of beautiful America.

You showed a picture of Camel Rock in the Shawnee national park in Southern Illinois in connection with Galena Illinois in the Northwest corner of Illinois. Lol!
