I think we are going to have a new king for the AO this year. Djokovic is still the favourite but I fell like he won't win this year.

  • @slow_build

I think most pundits are underestimating Alcaraz for the title. Yes, he dipped a little at the end of last year but he's refreshed and has likely made some improvements during the off-season as he does every year. He has played a couple of warm-up matches on Rod Laver so he'll be used to the conditions, plus the courts may be a little slower this year if the weather stays cool. He also doesn't have the pressure of being the favourite. I think he can do it.

Would switch Osaka for Gauff on the women semis. Love Naomi but I think it's a little too soon for her to comeback with full potential.
Got the same men's semis, but my hot take is a final between Sinner and Alcaraz with Sinner conquering his first grand slam! Nole is always amazing but I think he might be a little less motivaded for the AO this year. His goals will probably be taking Wimby back and winning the gold medal on the Olympics

Australian open is incomplete without Novak; it is clearly his second home and the last time he lost here was in 2018 when he was confronted by an elbow injury. On this hallowed Rod Laver Arena, he has made mincemeat of players of the calibre of Nadal, Andy, Federer, Meddy etc.
Given this backdrop most bet on this winning horse to secure his 11th title.

Rybakina is playing amazing, consistent, good at the net, winning long rallies, serving well, the defeat in Adelaide doesn't change nothing in my point of view because I don't think she did much effort there, voluntarily or not but she was clearly not doing her best. So I think it's a decent pick, Sabalenka played the final awful, but throughout the week she was almost perfect, Iga still to lose, she was amazing in United Cup even playing doubles alone 😂 can't see her failing before an eventual match against Ostapenko. Dimitrov and De Minaur might seriously bring some trouble in the men's side, the only bad match Dimitrov played the last 6 months was the final against Djokovic in Paris even Alcaraz and Sinner played more bad matches the last 6 months, and De Minaur is finally knowing to finish the points not only pushing eternally. I can't see Alcaraz or Medvedev better than De Minaur and Dimitrov, but only on court we'll know and Sinner still to show something in slams.

I strongly agree with Rybakina winning AO, if she can repeat her run/high level from brisbane. I think the final will be Sabalenka/Rybakina again. Iga’s chances to make it thru her tough draw are very slim. On the Men’s side i want to give it to Sinner, Grigor or even Rune. They have been very consistent since the Asian swing. Novak of course will make it far but will be tested by them. His physical stamina will be crucial in these matches. My pick for winning the title goes to Sinner or Grigor (dark horse). May the best and most resilient win 🍾🥂

Players always change their game plans depending on who they're facing, and matchips matter. Rybakina is not going to bagel a Sabalenka two matches in a row. As a matter of fact, I think that facing Sabalenka in the finals would be the worst case scenario for Rybakina.
As for Djokovic, I predict that he would lose to Alcaraz if he faces Alcaraz, so I would not be so confident to pick him as the winner even with healthy wrists.

Rybakina isn’t Iga, she doesn’t have a real ceiling.
She can literally serve 25 aces with 85% 1st serves and hit 30 return winners off of 1st serves without even blinking.
If she beats Pegula and then beats Iga when she is literally on a 21 match winning streak(if she makes the semifinal it will be 21 match wins in a row), Sabalenka won’t have a prayer of beating her.
Rybakina will be the one wanting revenge against Sabalenka for last year while Sabalenka will understand what Rybakina is actually capable of and afraid of that.
Other than Cancun(which was a disaster and should not count for anyone’s head to head)Rybakina has only beaten Sabalenka easier and easier as time goes by.
This idea that Sabalenka should be beating Rybakina every time is laughable. Last year was the beginning of Rybakina’s potential while it was the culmination of Sabalenka’s potential, Rybakina has a lot more potential than Sabalenka.

      Sabalenka is not Blinkova.
It is disappointing that she lost to a lower rank opponent and early in the tournament but it was an extremely close match and honestly I was afraid Rybakina would lose the 3rd set 6-2 the way she has been playing in the AO but instead she breaks Blinkova to the death twice in a row and nearly wins.
If Rybakina can channel that fighting spirit earlier in a match she can beat anyone even if she isn’t playing well and that is why I say she doesn’t have a ceiling, she can be down and out and still come back to make her opponent face multiple match points.

Rybakina was invincible until the Australian Open final last year. If they end up in the final again, no amount of aces will guarantee her a win if you don't believe me, ask Serena Williams.

Sinner to win, honestly Djokovic is having some wrist problem so I think that if they meet and the match goes at fifth sinner will win, Alcaraz right now is not at sinner and Djokovic level and the same for meddy.

Hot take: 128 men, only 2 have a chance at winning. Nole, and if his injury stops him, Sinner.

Yes, because Sinner IS in top form, oh wait we don't know because he didn't played anything.
And frankly, he is a contender but he never reached a final. The top 3 are GS winners

Don’t really see it between Alcaraz and Djokovic. Top favorite spart from the Djoker should be Sinner after the last month. Still Djokovic for the win down under.

Tsitsipas was scheduled to meet Novax in the quarters if Novax gets passed scheduled 4th round match against 16th seed Shelton. But I see Tsitsipas going out early which basically gives Novax NO hard matches until likely semi final against Sinner...

Rybakina is going to loose early in the tournament, Sabalenka is not going to win it again. Osaka will manage to the 3rd round. Swiatek has very difficult draw but she is looking really solid, she will go far.
