"Some tuners drill additional holes in the throttle body" LMAO What! I wouldn't trust a tuner who takes drill bits to my throttle body to fix idle tuning. Thanks for explaining some of these additional parameters in HP Tuners. I find the software a bit awkward at times with a lot of parameters that aren't explained well.
Yes it's an 'old school' technique that is redundant with the tuning options we have on hand today that Andre covered. For the situation we're discussing here any tuner arguing otherwise should absolutely be avoided! And no worries! Hope it and our other content helps you get your head around things 😎 - Taz.
To make sure I understood this right the table you just created to log idle airflow is for us who tune using maf not speed density if that so which pids do I keep focus on when logging since in sd you be focusing at ltft and stft fuel correction percentage vs commanded air flow but at maf what would I be looking at?
I watched a bunch of your videos to see what I could glean from your genius. I've tuned Base Idle Airflow in my engine using process you are eluding to here. However, I never added a bit to the calibration to create a "stall wall" so to speak. You mentioned adding 1 to 2 to the calibration but I don't recall what units of airflow that was.
I'm trying to tune the idle on a 2006 GTO with an LS2 but when I'm in the Idle airflow tab on the effective area tab I don't have the percent max tab available to change the percentage. Is there another way to do this?
Can you verify the version of VCM Scanner you are using in your video and if it's ver 4, can you transcribe some settings used in ver 5 that don't match up with earlier versions? Cheers.
I still don't understand how all the P/N, gear, and neutral tables interact with a manual transmission. Do I just do the same adjustment to all the tables or does the engine interact differently with each table since there's no load on idle except for the engine torque on a manual transmission?
I have a surging idle can’t figure it out also have recently noticed random misfires and a O2 sensor with no activity any idea I’ve been trying everything so any suggestions would be great
I've got a powerglide with 3400 stall convertor an my idle drops like 150 rpms from park or neutral into gear. And if I shift into reverse from park from about 1000 rpm it bangs real hard. And nothing was working so I set my idle tables and iac parameters while in gear so it wouldn't idle so low in gear. I do have a big nitrous cam with 114 lobe seperation
I have 2017 charger rt cammed dyno tuned on 93 straight pipe no cats I just added high flow cats threw a code p1eoa any ideas if that a tunning issue ??
New subscriber here I’ve watched about 6 hours and counting worth of your videos lol can you do some videos on the gen 3 hemi 6.1. All the tuners I talk to say there harder because you have to use speed density
MAF measures air flow over the sensor measured in grams. Injectors are usually a static setting of msec/gram. If you know how many grams of air you have with a target AFR the computer knows how many grams of fuel it needs so it sprays for the amount of time versus your msec/gram. Changes to airflow from mods are mostly compensated for and tuning an AFR is pretty much change the number in the cell you want to effect (More complicated but basically that's it). SD is a MAP sensor measuring the pressure and vacuum in the intake manifold (Absolute Pressure) and uses a table of how much air you expect the motor to consume at a given intake vacuum/pressure vs revs. The injector size is known, the engine capacity is known, but the volumetric efficiency table is the percentage of that capacity that is filled. This makes it sensitive to mods that change the amount of air that the cylinder will have in it. Verifying and changing AFR target vs actual on a MAF system isn't really much easier than changing a VE to hit a target AFR though so I'm not sure what their issue is...
Hello, I have the same problem. I dont know what tune i have ! On a cold engine, the engine speed (Idle) is very high at 1800 rpm. I bought the car without a katalysator, DPF and without EGR. I put the Katalysator back in because it was smoking and smells from the exhaust pipe. No errors ! Everything suits me and I don't want to change anything yet. I just want to change the engine idle setting at startup. How can this be done? Maybe HP Tuner or other tuners ? What do you think about this Thanks 2015 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel .107000 Miles
Do you have a video that covers this exactly for a Drive By Cable setup? I'm trying to tune a 2000 silverado swapped to a 6.0L with Texas Speed 220R cam, headers and some other mods. I've bumped the idle but once it warms up it tanks. Issue AFR gauge shows 12:1 when cold idle, but gets upto 15:1 when around 150-170F.. Then it starts to surge and eventually RPM Bounces until the motor shuts off. Then its hard to even start again..
I have a pretty decent sized cam in my 2004 C5 Corvette and at park neutral it chops hard but when turning on the AC or even going into drive the idle smoothes out alot. Is there anything I can do to make it chop with the AC on or in drive without installing a bigger stall converter
Reduce your timing a little bit . 1-2° you can do it in the in park table if you want you can do it in the in drive table but you may risk losing some air conditioning at stop lights . Me personally I'd let it sleep with the air conditioning on .
My idle sounds poppy. Almost like misfires. It idles fine after cold starts, it’s when it’s warm and been driven for about 15 min that it does it. I have an R32 with stock CAMs and 1000cc injectors. All settings for the injectors and coils have been inputted in my ECU, and I’m still struggling with it.
I've heard a poppy idle with a MAF sensor forgotten to be plugged in, i.e, not the correct air flow signal. If it's anything like that, perhaps you have something wrong with that or something seriously wrong amongst the feedback loop? Just a guess.
My car stoich is 14.63 and shows that as commanded. My wideband connected to the scanner is showing 19 AFR. But my eyes start watering within seconds of starting in my garage. Obviously I’m rich what values would I change? My stoich or my VE table? AFR error is telling me it wants 30% my eyes tell me it needs reduced 30%. Also I’m on SD tune, sloppy stage 2 cam
Hi,I am new to the whole LS world. I gave a '08 chevy Avalanche with a mild afm delete cam.AFM delete is the main reason I bought this cam,as well as it's supposed to be a little more torquey to handle the 35" tires. It's my daily and I'm just trying to get it running properly. What/who is a good tuner to use. I purchased the Diablosport 7202 and apparently it can not change what is needed to make it run dependably. Any insight would help drastically,as the shop I brought it to has no clue about tuning a cammed LS.

@High Performance Academy I'm not a member and I am not currently having this problem. I have had this problem in the past though and my tuner fixed it. I'd like to be my own tuner instead of paying someone else.
The mass airflow in the scanner was 8.1g/s where in the editer is around 16g/s in the same ECT. Is it supposed to add more airflow to the table for cammed vehicles?
Yes I like how I was all excited about how he is going to teach us for a gen 4, then quickly goes off to some maf to temp historgram... It was like making cake and throwing out the window.

Having an issue with my ls2. Its idling fine but when I put in gear on my Mvb Th400 it will still idle but when I go to give it some gas then let off the car will stumble and die. Is there a table I need to adjust for this

Grams per second is what he was using and he mentioned adding 1-2 g/s overall once you have logged your air flow
