I remember listening to a Dragnet radio episode where Friday and Romero were after a gang of robbers. They got to a place that had just been robbed and Friday narrated "Detectives Ruiz and Stromwell were already on the scene."
Thanks for your comment. Back in the day I watched the Dragnet TV program on a regular basis, but I didn't know that there was a Dragnet radio program. Red Stromwell and the Hat Squad was already a legend by then, so I'm not surprised that he was mentioned on one of the episodes.
Such an interesting story. For me, brings up so many questions. How do four "bigger than life" (seemingly) alpha males band together? Did they have designs on law school before they got together or did that come after? Why the hats...a form of branding...but why? Great video. Love the slices of LA history.
The squad leader Max Herman, who went on to become an outstanding trial attorney, was very intelligent. He chose the squad members carefully. They were not just big and brawny, they were all sharp detectives. By the time the squad was formed big hats were out of fashion, so going back to the big fedoras really made them stand out from the crowd. They started law school about the time that it became apparent that criminal defendents were going to have more rights, and that knowing in detail how law was going to affect investigations in complicated cases became important.

Could you do something on the shotgun squad in Dallas?
Thanks for your comment. I'll take a look to see if there is enough material available for a video.
Very enjoyable! I always learn something new!
Glad you enjoyed it!
