I'm right handed, but because I'm a long-time crocheter, I find it easier to hold the working yarn in my left hand too. Also, finding it difficult to retrain my brain - finding it hard to let go of the security of the hook. Your videos definitely help though.
@InsolubleToaster I’m a crocheter and I tried to learn to knit. I can tell you, train wreck is exactly how I felt about the whole idea and I gave up knitting entirely. I’ve been tempted to reacquaint myself with it, but I’m currently way too committed to my growing fabric stash and I need to finish a ton of quilts first. And a crocheted sweater. Then I’ll pick up those dreaded needles again.
It isn't necessary to hold the working yarn in your right hand - you can hold it in either hand. For more information on this, you can watch my video called "Knitting Help - Lefties vs. Righties". Most right-handed people hold the working yarn in their right hand, and most left-handed people hold the working yarn in their left hand - but it's not a steadfast rule. Good luck!
Hi Staci, I dont know knitting, but wish to learn it from ur teaching, i am so impressed by watching videos. I have decided to learn but I couldn't understand what is the difference between double sided needles, one side needle, and circular one. seriously i cant understand about knitting needles. As a beginner what shall i need to choose? Can u help me in this:):). your videos are awesome and very easy to understand. Finally knitting is so easy with help of ur videos.
Could you please do a purl stitch in a SLOW MOTION video using your "flicking" method? I have only been knitting for a few years and I am finding it hard to master the flicking method with the purl stitch in particular. I seem to also have a tension issue when trying to purl stitch with the flicking method. I am determined to learn the flicking method. Your videos are incredibly helpful!
@@verypinkknits Thank you for the link! It is a huge help to me:) Now that I can watch this stitch in slow motion I will be able to watch how most of your fingers work on both hands. I already have watched your flicking video many times but you are so very fast. Hopefully this will lead me to doing a better job of practicing on how to flick. I am very excited about learning to "flick!" I like the idea of being more efficient with the moment of my hands while knitting. Thank you:)
Good morning! I am a new subscriber and I love all of your videos. I've tried knitting for a long time with little success in finishing projects. I am a long time crocheter. I saw some of your patterns and would love to recreate the work once I'm proficient enough. I did notice that you wrap your yarn counter clockwise in both knit and purl. Most books go clockwise purl and counter cw on knit, or vice versa. Does this make a difference? Would you mine explaining, please? 😁
chinadollcjo - the standard way to wrap the needle with the yarn is counter-clockwise (if you're looking down at the tip of the needle like the center of a clock). The way I do it is totally normal and standard! :)
VeryPink Knits ha! Maybe I misread the books, and some blog posts have been confusing. So you do counter clockwise on both knit and purl...probably why my stitches look drunk, I was switching directions on each! Thanks so much for the quick response!
Ha ha... I've just found out, that I'm purling wrong. Going clockwise with the active thred... and thereby twisting my stitches... Does it make a big difference in strength or stretchiness?
Poornima - I have a video called "Knitting Help - Needle Characteristics" that will explain all of this to you! I can't give you a link here in the comments, but you can find the video by searching my channel page.
Taylor - I recommend following this video, watching it until you know you're doing it correctly, then practicing and practicing! The video explains the technique better than I can here in the comments. :)
Staci, you are the best teacher I have found!
Thank you so much! This is the only video where purl made sense for me!
Thank you very much I finally figured out how to purl! Your videos are very helpful and easy to follow
this video really helped and made my scarfs and headbands so much nicer.
My favorite how-to knitting videos online. Awesome.

"With purling it's like a train wreck."
I imagine this is how many knitters feel.

i love how u have the withe backgroud is it sooo much easier for me to knit
It makes a difference in how the stitches look - one side of the V (on the knit side) will be more prominent than the other, every other row.
"knit one, purl two" makes so much more sense now
