the Left is the non-sprocket side, not unless you have an LHD but if you do have an LHD you should already know what your doing! :) awesome vid, i built up my bike from this tutorial!

@crimson22s where your pedal and crankarms go thru the fram in the middle of your bike on the bottom of your frame. there are bearings in there etc normally a pain in the ass to fix and work on if you dont get sealed bearings XD so fyi always get a sealed bottom bracket
@SoLittleHope It depends on your bottom bracket size on the bike. Usually one piece cranks have big unsealed bearings and three piece cranks have smaller sealed bearings.
should use a rubber mallet not a claw or metal headed hammer, because not only it would scratch the paint work (not bothered myself) but can damage the metal it's self, just a tip.
@tunerman23 also if you dont own a rubber mallet then get a small slab of wood put it over what u want to hit and then hammer. its better because its not direct contact
@Ianvaughan92 Your sproket might not be straight. It might not be on the spacer correctly. You should be able to tell if you pedal the bike while not riding and see if the sproket has a wobble to it. If this is your problem the chain is what is making the noise because it is not running flush with the gears.
@H4rdcor3TillieDi3 there's a special tool I used for mine. Idk what it's called but it's a thing where it fits the bolt then you hit it with a hammer on top and it turns the bolt which way you set it to.
To summarize: Just throw everything together with a claw hammer and some grease, don't worry about the dents and gouges in your bike, thats what makes you a hardcore bmxer.
i just installed a 48 spline set of cranks and a crank tool is recommended, but the guys at the bike shop said a big fkin' hammer. i took a small sledge and rested the butt end of the wood handle on one side and whacked the other with a large rubber mallet. installed in less than 5 min. and not even a chip to the paint.
mostly but things like crank bearings(bottom brackets) varie between frames, there 3 sizes, mid bb , spanish and euro. some headsets r differnet to but thats the only thing that varies really
most 3 piece crank systems use sealed bearings now.. the sprocket is small because he's using it for flatland bmx tricks.. the rear cog is probably like a 5 or 6 tooth gear. i still have the normal pressed in bearing cups on my redline bmx bike, and a 1 piece crank. i've seen my friends 3 piece cranks bend and strip before so i don't like em..
@malcolmburbank there are 4 different type of berrings American, which are used in mostly cheaper bikes bcuz they are heavy but very durable, mid which is what most pros use (i use them also) they are very light and durable, and spanish and euro which are rarely used, they are extremely light but wear easily
This is a cool video but I noticed bikes have changed a little since I used to ride (back in the 80's). Why is the crank sprocket on this bike so small? I always used a much larger sprocket with 1-piece cranks. Also, do all newer bikes use this style of crank bearings? Did they do away with the old style where you have to press in the race into the frame then you have your separate bearings? Cool video
at 3:31 what i do it get a piece of cardboard and fold it then put it on the crank then bang it with a hammer it just stop damage and stop from ruining the paint
no worries, i have the same prob a bigger cassette at the rear and if i did get a new hub with a smaller one with a 23t at the front my brake would get in the way :(
true, but in his case it would slow him down because the bigger the driver on the wheel the easier and easier it is to pedal taking away speed, but point takin
yes, it is. but i think it is very important to know, and seeing how he didn't mention it, some kids will get very very frustrated trying to do it righty tighty (from experience) haha, but yes, english threading is opposite from i think chinese maybe, idk whatever is usuall imported to the USA lol
@graffskillz Did you order the whole bottom bracket kit? It does'nt want what bottom bracket you get as long as it matches what your frame requires and it has to match you crank spindle size too. I hope I helped you.
no, it's the exact opposite. it's a common misconception. it would take more rotations of your sprocket to go the same distance of a bigger sprocket, wasting energy. you must also change the driver gear (the "back sprocket") to a smaller size, to equal it out.
should of oiled the splines on the spindle, should of made sure there was zero clearance between the sprocket and the spindle with aluminium shivs. other than that pretty good tutorial.
i would so trade my old school king for that bike the only good thing that it needs to make it better is a small crank and to be freestyle but ima put it freestyle like tomorrow or something its very nice to me bike its chrome and the fron rim is all black and the back one is all black too but the little thing is bright blue and with bright blue pegs and bright blue brakes its a prettyy nice bike super light like 35 to 45 pounds or less then 30 idk just know its super light
This is Where a Rubber HAmmer Works Better Than A Metal one i just got a full bike kit just like all the parts he has im building a fly bikes pantera 1
@stuart6270 i have a setup on my bmx its 25 10 and for parks its alot better you dont as high speed but its not far off and you get easier speed to the ramps
depends if you want a decent one. custom if your waning really good parts but you obviously havnt got one yet so... just buy a second hand custom of ebay or get a cheap complete.
this has to be the best video on how to install cranks i have ever seen good job man
Seen this video back in like 2007......2018 and im just now fulfilling this process
the Left is the non-sprocket side, not unless you have an LHD but if you do have an LHD you should already know what your doing! :) awesome vid, i built up my bike from this tutorial!
my friend has a completely black bike with fluorescent orange pegs. it looks SICK!
best installation video by far so easy
im workin on building my own bike right now, and this video helped me alottt. thanks man

i like all three videos VERY HELPFUL
i like the orange and green color mix
That homemade bearing press is a great idea! Maybe now i wont have to pay to have it done at a bike shop
For anyone wondering what cranks those are they're Suelo flatland cranks
My crank arm bent a little and dug into my frame a little, now theres a nice big scratch.
@SoLittleHope It depends on your bottom bracket size on the bike. Usually one piece cranks have big unsealed bearings and three piece cranks have smaller sealed bearings.
i have black/silver bike and these colors rocks ;)
with pink valve covers xD
love the music at the start
should use a rubber mallet not a claw or metal headed hammer, because not only it would scratch the paint work (not bothered myself) but can damage the metal it's self, just a tip.
@arserone the cranks are 3-pc but the sprocket is 25-28 and if u r gunna install a 25-28 tooth then u will need to change ur driver to an 9-12 tooth
thanks Matt!
yeah... good video mate. Cheers.
@Paul Vang: just pound the cup out with a hammer through the opposite end. You can use a wrench to make it easier.
I used his bike at my school I got picked and it was awesome
matt legend!!
great educational clip. nice one
@tunerman23 also if you dont own a rubber mallet then get a small slab of wood put it over what u want to hit and then hammer. its better because its not direct contact
MRsnabi1 bearings are pretty much universal. It's the spindles size in the cranks thats 19 or 22 mm.
@Ianvaughan92 Your sproket might not be straight. It might not be on the spacer correctly. You should be able to tell if you pedal the bike while not riding and see if the sproket has a wobble to it. It is me. I wish I had more time to be active on here and respond to everybody, but I got to ride too.
Matt
a smaller sprocket looks so much slicker too.
i love fly. i have a tierra 2 grande i just ordered off danscomp
if you have it in backwards,so the chainwheel is on the left instead of the right side.
ur my favorite flatland rider
thanks matt
THANK YOU!
freeze bearing, heat inside the bottom bracket, drop bearing into place with not force at all
try taking your cranks apart and reinstalling it. I had that problem, I found out my crank arm was loose.
@tychamp017 they come with bottom brackets that you have to buy unless you buy spacers separate
u need to take off the crank from the side, the chainwheel is attached to it and just switch it
im going to have stuff to do this weekend, i need to tune my old bmx so i can sell it
sometimes the left pedal goes on the same side as the sprocket, that is when you have left hand drive hubs
@Ianvaughan92 That's your hub, it either needs tightenin or you need a new one.
i just installed a 48 spline set of cranks and a crank tool is recommended, but the guys at the bike shop said a big fkin' hammer. i took a small sledge and rested the butt end of the wood handle on one side and whacked the other with a large rubber mallet. installed in less than 5 min. and not even a chip to the paint.
good job man
thats a nice cooling bike
mostly but things like crank bearings(bottom brackets) varie between frames, there 3 sizes, mid bb , spanish and euro. some headsets r differnet to but thats the only thing that varies really
Ima make my own like that with my own paint job Thank you!!
most 3 piece crank systems use sealed bearings now..
the sprocket is small because he's using it for flatland bmx tricks..
the rear cog is probably like a 5 or 6 tooth gear.
i still have the normal pressed in bearing cups on my redline bmx bike, and a 1 piece crank. i've seen my friends 3 piece cranks bend and strip before so i don't like em..
you dont need a bearing press, can easily be done with a rubber mallet or a hammer and a piece of wood.
nice crank!
@malcolmburbank there are 4 different type of berrings American, which are used in mostly cheaper bikes bcuz they are heavy but very durable, mid which is what most pros use (i use them also) they are very light and durable, and spanish and euro which are rarely used, they are extremely light but wear easily
the cranks will eventually slip the pinch bolt cranks are way more reliable
Thts a good setup
This is a cool video but I noticed bikes have changed a little since I used to ride (back in the 80's). Why is the crank sprocket on this bike so small? I always used a much larger sprocket with 1-piece cranks. Also, do all newer bikes use this style of crank bearings? Did they do away with the old style where you have to press in the race into the frame then you have your separate bearings? Cool video
you don't need a seat, it only adds weight, all you need is a frame with wheels.
yeah you can. you can get smaller but its for flatland.
''i don't like metal to metal contact.'' *pulls out hammer*
best guide but may i know how to take out the bb kit again ? and what greese is that ? it's great .
just note that the right side with the sprocket(sometime) it regular threaded and the other side isnt
at 3:31 what i do it get a piece of cardboard and fold it then put it on the crank then bang it with a hammer it just stop damage and stop from ruining the paint
@sk8z1997 yes it's the bearings that let the cranks spin
no worries, i have the same prob a bigger cassette at the rear and if i did get a new hub with a smaller one with a 23t at the front my brake would get in the way :(
true, but in his case it would slow him down because the bigger the driver on the wheel the easier and easier it is to pedal taking away speed, but point takin
shouldn't you use a rubber mallet when pounding in the crank?
Ltl films look for a bike with a gyro for barspinh and tailwhips. And proably with back brakes. A 3 peice crank and a small sprocket an driver
@Ianvaughan92 dont worry its probably just your pedals, otherwise you might have something wrong with your bottom bracket.
@VelcorKP naa dnt do this it just fukz it up n its hard use a ratchet and the long extension socket put it on and tap them owt works so much better
this is good thanx
@blackeyerider09 No, but it is necessary if you want to remove the parts smooth.
@bibles123 that those aint profile cranks and when it is printed "Suelo" on them you should get it
@Intoxicationz you can use it anyway you want..
yes, it is. but i think it is very important to know, and seeing how he didn't mention it, some kids will get very very frustrated trying to do it righty tighty (from experience) haha, but yes, english threading is opposite from i think chinese maybe, idk whatever is usuall imported to the USA lol
@Bmxtrails2012 you go to a bmx shop so that they can then fix it for you if you do not know what to do
the 19mm or 22mm is for the spindle diameter, not the frame size.
the music at the beggining when there doing flatland makes me want to rip my eyeballs out
Don't hit your new cranks with a hammer, use a soft faced mallet, or if you only have a hammer use a soft packer like a bit of wood or thick rubber.
@Tazy98 fly cranks they dont really have a name but theyre just called fly
@graffskillz Did you order the whole bottom bracket kit? It does'nt want what bottom bracket you get as long as it matches what your frame requires and it has to match you crank spindle size too. I hope I helped you.
I run a 24 tooth in front and 9 tooth in the back so it is about the same as a normal bike.
no, it's the exact opposite. it's a common misconception.
it would take more rotations of your sprocket to go the same distance of a bigger sprocket, wasting energy.
you must also change the driver gear (the "back sprocket") to a smaller size, to equal it out.
I've noticed that when I'm riding flatland I don't bail that much. Maybe because I don't just 40 ft downstairs? May that be the reason?
you put more spacers on the spindle, maybe you need a new bottom bracket?
get a square tapered BB so it would be easier to put the cranks on evenly no?
@danielgoneloco its a left hand thread
is there a way u can tell if the spindle( the piece going between the two cranks?) is too small visually so i don't waste money on fixing it?
should of oiled the splines on the spindle, should of made sure there was zero clearance between the sprocket and the spindle with aluminium shivs.
other than that pretty good tutorial.
i like using plastic pedals, there more lighter and cost less to replace them.
yes
i would so trade my old school king for that bike the only good thing that it needs to make it better is a small crank and to be freestyle but ima put it freestyle like tomorrow or something its very nice to me bike its chrome and the fron rim is all black and the back one is all black too but the little thing is bright blue and with bright blue pegs and bright blue brakes
its a prettyy nice bike super light like 35 to 45 pounds or less then 30 idk
just know its super light
he love it
you could punch the bearings with an rubber hammer in the frame too
alans bmx is a good website for uk people
This is Where a Rubber HAmmer Works Better Than A Metal one i just got a full bike kit just like all the parts he has im building a fly bikes pantera 1
@stuart6270 i have a setup on my bmx its 25 10 and for parks its alot better you dont as high speed but its not far off and you get easier speed to the ramps
on the bolt there needs to be some greese or it will be harder to bolt down
The colours are pretty nice :D i like the bike, good tutorial, but like 'toxicpeachjuice' said, you said you wouldn't use the hammer anymore :(
HE RALLY LOVE GREASE
Not really, but some people have LHD cause they grind at the right side, and opposite. Tho, the most normal is RHD.
depends if you want a decent one.
custom if your waning really good parts but you obviously havnt got one yet so...
just buy a second hand custom of ebay or get a cheap complete.
