But remember also that Mao came to power on the back of his calls for democracy and a certain Austrian was also elected democratically. Who actually gets to define democracy and the limitations it has isn't necessarily the general public who wish it.
Russia's leaders should be the one that builds infrastructure, warm heating at home, work, security, and food supplies, armed forces, and generally a strong country.
Russia doesn't need monarcy.
Russia needs stability.
The current system means that Russia's leaders have zero motivation to improve infrastructure, heating, work opportunities, fixing potholes in roads, or introducing a nationwide initiative of canalization so everyone can have proper modern plumbing even in the rural areas. Life won't improve for ordinary Russians until authoritarianism disappears and real people power is put in place.

In Russia, democracy is the same as a dictatorship.
That is what the western propaganda says.
Start with a constitution built around the belief that people have intrinsic value unrelated to the return of their labor. Honor the unseen value in people, act in humility reflecting that there are unknown unknowns and we are small in our perception. Then there will be prosperity. On the other hand place all power in a single person of limited scope and guarantee prosperity for no one.
Sounds good in theory.

Democracy is never perfectly satisfying for an individual because a big factor in democracy is accepting the result when you lose. A crucial point, in fact. So what kind of democracy would you want that isn't seen in the West? I hope not one where you want to guarantee your side will win? Because if so, that's not democracy.
