Just fwi i think the item mat took at 18:07 (pins and needles) is what caused all the spiked chests and the pins to start jumping around since it makes sense... You get friendly pins each room but normal chests are spiked.... That could be it... or i could be wrong.
I assumed the spiked chests were just the only type that could spawn on the chest because it was insane mode, and limiting the amount of items you grab makes the game harder.

Maybe the reason for the spiked chests was the “Pins and needles” new Planetarium item? The one at 18:00, I think it’s called Ophiucus!
ooor it could kinda work the same way luna does but for cursed rooms, because maybe it related to the voodoo doll that has pins on it? bit of a stretch tbh but you cant really say for sure with an item you dont know much about

I feel pretty confident (though I dont know for sure) that Ophiusus is the reason for all the worm familiars (that enemy is called a Needle) and all the spiked chests, just feels like it makes sense

The worms were coming from the new planetarium item you got. The description was “Pins and Needles” and the little worms are called Needles because they’re a smaller version of Pin. I think the constellation that item is based of is a guy holding a snake so that’s probably why it spawns worms.
Perhaps needles cuz of the spike chest’s that started to spawn after he picked it up
I like how Matt, at the point where the thought he would be getting less items than normal, decided to use Magic Skin just to reduce the number of potential items even further.

I’m pretty sure all the needles were from that new planetarium item, given that its item tag was “pins and needles”. Also, the spiked chests seem to just be a feature of insane mode to make the Dark Room a bit harder since you can get so many free items typically.

uh so the reason the pins were spawning is due to Ophiuchus, its the astrology sign of a serpent/snake wielder hence the item summoning worms

i think the spike chests are an insane mode thing becuase that does make it harder and makes it hard to mega break on the dark room
The troll bomb was how they worked in classic Isaac, you'd go to pick up a bomb and it'd be a troll

If they really want to make the game harder they have to add: guaranteed curse every floor (with a chance to have 2), speed cap at 1, items cap at 30, more chance for champions bosses and double trouble. Good the half heart rule and the spike chest rule, but the treasure room rule doesn't make the game actually harder it just bothers you if u don't find items the early floors

You should use the encyclopaedia mod, it’ll let you read about the items you have picked up, and about all the items you can pick up

All floors are one full heart damge.
Every rooms is a boss room (except the "boss room" that is a end of run boss room)
The only room that gives items for free is boss rooms.
Shops are duble value but less items.
Ddeals are 2 to 3 heart deals
Angels deals give broken hearts
Secret room items are priced as shop items (vanilla shops prices)
Boss rush is two times the bosses for half the items.
And to win? Kill The beast, Corpse mother, Maga Stan, and Delirium.
This is my pich for the next difficulty mod.
I have a challange run idea. Regular run but the floor is slippery like the trail from yellow dingle and you can’t use flight
