At the beginning, I misspoke and didn't catch it - 1977 was the true 25th/silver anniversary of Les Paul and Gibson NOT 1976. There is a 1977 25th anniversary Silver lpc commissioned by guitar center out there though

I still own my '78 tobacco finished 25/50 that I bought new in '78. I'll never sell it. Still looks, sounds & plays great. It is heavy as h3ll, tho. The reason I now prefer to play my 50th Anniversary 2010 '60 RI Standard that's my icon pic. It's a lot easier on the ol' shoulder.

Where did you buy it from? I used to work in a music store in the late 70's and we had multiple 25/50's in different colors. I don't know why they didn't sell that well. I like the tobacco finish. Nice instrument..

I love the guitars on your channel! I watch your videos every morning and I know you say that you’re just an average guitarist, but your riffs were actually very good! You have more talent than you think.

Speaking of Schaller, all of my guitars have their strap-locks to keep them from hitting the ground! (A very good thing)

Ha, I just found this after watching your other 25/50 videos and the photo you have of the black one at 1:00 is my guitar :). Thanks loads for these, I've had mine since purchasing it by accident in the late eighties. Best regards, Paul.

Black is the only color I haven't owned/reviewed yet. That's a rare one! Enjoy it!

The Trogly's Guitar Show I don’t really play mine very often, I’m not a huge fan of the pickups. These Series 7 tarback pickups are super hot but in my guitar are quite dark. Both measure around 16k. I’m toying with idea of fitting some other pickups and using it more. They’ve been swapped out before and mine has quite a few dings so it wouldn’t be ruining the guitar any more than it has been. Thanks again.

I've never been a huge fan of the series VII pickups either. Most of them are starting to get bad coils in them too and cannot be fixed. As long as you keep them with the guitar, definitely put something else in that you like! Or just sell it to me and get a new guitar haha

The Trogly's Guitar Show I could never sell it I’m afraid, it was my first proper guitar purchased nearly 30 years ago. I went to buy a les Paul copy from my local guitar shop and this was hanging beside it at the same price! At the time the bridge pickup was microphonic so it was sold cheap. I changed the pickups and gigged it for 10 years. Once the Internet was born I found out about wax potting and dipped the original pickup and it was good as new again but I retired the guitar for a lighter model, mine too is over 11lbs.
Thanks again for the videos, I really enjoy watching.

Hi to you both, I have a black 25/50 as well that my father bought new in 1978. Unfortunately he modified the guitar quite a bit. The last couple of years I've been trying to restore the guitar to its original glory. I was fortunate enough to find the original Series VII tar back pickups on eBay, but I am struggling to find a good Nashville bridge (I know it's quite common - but I want a nice patina, not one that's completely ruined). Also the internal wiring and pots (coil tap is still on the guitar though) are not original but that's going to be hard to get.
Two questions to you both: I am trying to determine what color screws were used on the pickup rings, pickup adjustment and backplates. Do you know for sure? I've come across a lot of pictures with different colors on the screws and it even made me wonder if there's a difference on a black one.
What would be a good place to find vintage parts for my guitar?
Thanks in advance and thanks for the great video!

I owned a 25/50 and sold it for like 200 bucks when I had a bad heroin problem. I regret the shit out of it. I didn't know what it was worth. I knew it was worth way more than what I sold it got but I was in a bad place. Nine years clean now and all I can do is kick myself in the ass.

Part of the 25/50 'case candy' was a brass belt buckle with the 25/50 logo. Someone took mine before I purchased the guitar! Came across one years later and had to buy an Ovation Viper solid body to acquire the buckle!

    • @Trog

Not all 25/50s came with buckles. Early ones came with a mail-in card that you would send in for a buckle. Gibson ran out of the proper 25/50 belt buckle quite quickly and substituted them with other 'Gibson' buckles. The 25/50 variety can be quite pricey - I've sold 3 @ $1,000 each. There are now MANY fake/replica versions on the market though!

Years ago I saw one which was being sold by a collector for an astronomical price because of the rarity (he said), that one was WHITE !

    • @Trog
      @Trog  6 лет назад

I've heard rumors of a white one in Arizona. I've never seen it - but since there are 10 White Les Paul Artisans with black binding out there... I would bet there were a small handful of white 25/50s too.
