Such an excellent lesson! The way you pause to listen, really helped me hear the relationship between harmonies and bass notes. Scales = Harmonies = Scales
Turnaround awareness! Yes! Now, how about Slonimsky and I think modern Jazz has been covered. Then you should cover the Gospel turnarounds. You are really good at presenting these things! It makes it easier for me to pass it on to students who play sax, trumpet etc. Many thanks!
One of the clearest explanations I've seen! Thanks! I have been wondering for a long time about why the VI7 is major and not minor in a 3-6-2-5-1 progression -- this nails it!
Ok here’s a question. In miles band (herbie solo on all of you - he subs eminor for gmi - they share the diminished scale that he uses in the turnaround during his solo. What is your analysis here and how often do you find this happening on stage?
I didn't kniw a turn around could be so subtle. Trying my luck on guitar driven blues rhe tur around is far more fortetress, an entire weather front shift. Seismic. Its seems your i tsruction is right on top of arpeggios, modes and scales. It woukd be interesting to hear recipe where and hen these come into play.
This has nothing to do with the title. This is clickbait…. I mean, why not call it: “Turnaround evolution for bass players” ??? Boring that you do this kind of baiting.
The negative Harmony turnaround. C Ab7 Eb7 Bb7
The Tatum turnaround. C. Ab7. Db7. G7
That’s more like a tritone sub turnaround

Love it
Hey Bob, if the other guys are playing a standard I vi ii V and then I play, say, the Ladybird changes, wouldn't that clash? Or would it work?
Works great if the pianist is playing guide tones and lets you dictate the root. If they are playing the root too, it can possibly clash.
@@VIPFeedback thanks man!
What's the turnaround on Turnaround?
i feel attacked in this video
And how does this help us to create interesting lines? Do we not have to talk about what turnaround were going to use with other players beforehand?
No, They’ll hear it because if done correctly the band should feel it heading back to the start.
Henderson's "Isotope" = Pastorius' "Teen Town"?
Hey BAB
I wasn't aware that Monk was a double bassist. :P
