Is Palworld worth the hype??

First time playing Palworld, is this game worth the hype after it's massively successful launch? Or is it just a Pokemon rip off? I jumped in to take a look for myself.
Palworld is an open world survival game with building, upgrading and the ability to capture "Pals". Creatures that inhabit the island that you can make fight, farm and gather for you as you explore the world and fight off against poachers.
